What I cannot get my head around is that sure it’s going to be great off road - like loads of JLR products.

But you are not going to be riding one of these into a war zone and trusting you life to it like I and many others did with SNATcHES and WMIKs etc

So why the excitement over it? There are many off-road vehicles that are great these days...

They're already working them into the Red Cross.

Why wouldn't there be a dumbed-down military version, too?

I have a massive soft spot for those. As soon as I saw them I Qatar, I got the ‘I wants’.

Import only in the UK. Shame.

Brother in law had an FJ out in dubai.

    It's awful.
Simon no longer owes me anything, Dave does though.
Floyd probably owes me at least twenty with the interest rolling up...

You only have to get into an FJ once to realise what a stupid waste of time they are. Fecking tiny inside. Slightly gayer than a Hummer H3.

The only standout visual complaint I have of the new Defender so far is that they went all ‘bad boy’ on the headlamps. Should be a complete circle, not a clipped aggressive look they’ve gone with.

I guess it might be dependant on what you call an ECU. Modern lightweight wiring looms try to just have a very small number of wires (ideally positive, negative, data, but maybe a few more) and would ideally be on a loop round the vehicle. At each point you need something to happen you have little control interface that turns the data request back into analogue control wiring. If you say each control unit is an ECU then that number is feasible. Tesla are pushing this to the max in the Model Y, Model S had 3 km of wires, while the Model 3 has 1.5 km, they're claiming 100m in the Model Y.

Or it could just be because Mike broke so many things they had to put in backups on top of backup ecus....

I know what you mean but as a mate pointed out for even the price of the cheapest 110 models you can get a very nice second hand Range Rover.

I had a fair bit to do with this. Interesting reading on all of the YouTube wombles comments. I'm not really sure anyone understands what classes as both legal and sale-able in Europe anymore.
