Thread: Have you crashed on the 'Ring?

Have you crashed on the 'Ring?

    If so; where & when?
Not wishing to harp on the negative...
but I know that several members on here have had prangs / incidents on the 'Ring.
It may be interesting / educational to hear your stories (if you'd be willing to share?)*

Personally (and thankfully) I've not yet crashed there,
though I came damn close @ Kallenhard -
came in too hot; understeer, then oversteer, cloud of dust, I was lucky to keep it off the armco.

    * As per N/L Forum rules; please don't post any video links.

    No one got hurt.

Not been back since, but that's a combination of other factors, rather than fear of going back out on the track (I'd bloody love to, but circumstances keep conspiring against me).

Been passenger in an M3CSL crashed at Ex Mühle.

Only car I’ve ever spun there was my XJ6

Not crashed, fortunately. Some luck thrown in with a tiny bit of judgement.

September 2007, Hohe Acht on a GSXR 750, was off line as was taking it relatively easy and hit a bump while cranked over and the front wheel never regained contact with the road. Bike written off but no injuries apart from dislocated shoulder, which I popped back in as usual.

This was when I first met Jude who was doing a lap with Nige who'd just let me by and then stopped to check I was ok / hide the video camera.

Dropping down into Kallenhard I had a 360 spin slap bang in the middle of the track...ended up stationary right in the middle of the track facing the wrong way....

More of an oh shit moment trying to get turned out of it fully expecting something to come tearing over the crest!

If you wade through the next 20 odd pages, it gets fixed, but is now engineless.

I span and brushed the Armco in the BMW many years ago, no bill and just a scrape down the bumper.

I did have the mother of all spins at the Mini K with half of Northloop in a shitty old rental car

    No,

In over 700 laps at least 3 really hairy moments spring to mind on the bike just as crashes were happening around me or in the direct aftermath, trying to squeeze through gaps, braking with the rear in the end and just general puckering of the rearward sphincter.

One big loss of control in the van in the damp, letting go of everything was my way to sort it out, no skill involved.

I grass tracked across Hohe Acht on the right as you enter. That kerb is violent! No armco interface though.

Not really a crash but Kesselchen claimed a turbo a few years back and I became a member of the Bongard club.

Oh and I was forced to take grass at Adenauer Forst after coming around the corner and finding an Elise mid-spin in front of me. It was on youtube but seems to have gone now.

We were SO close to the barrier

Yep, Lauda’s corner. 1st November 2013 (I think) it was 15degrees and dry every where, well, apart from there. Hit the barrier on the left, more run off would of helped but I suppose if I’m looking for that I shouldn’t have been on the Nordschleife!

Interestingly both in S1 Elises. I did a spectacular 360 at Brunnchen 1 in about 2008, middle of summer loads of tyre smoke. Second time I was Paxlapping in a friends Elise, soaking wet day and we explored the grass at Tiergarten. Lovely.

Had a spin through Teirgarten/Hohenrain in 2004, didn't hit anything. Pheww.

Was passenger with Lizard's mate Bob in Lizard's old mk2 Golf and I kept saying 'let it drift' meaning use all the track, he did just that at mini K and the back end went round, lots of arm flailing and he kept it out of the barriers, thankfully.

    Near crash.
    1. Spun at T13 (left) following Nige. Cold slicks plus Matty on board
    2. Masive 4 way tank slapper at 100mph on the left kink after Karrousel. Dad in the car too.

    Actual crash.
See sparrow's comment above. I was the passenger.
