    RIP Maurice Reeves

Heard the sad news today that Maurice Reeves has passed away aged 89.

Some of you may know of him through his rapid track day Golfs campaigned by him and his son Trevor.

His furniture shop in Croydon was destroyed by fire in the 2011 London riots.

    Ah sad.

My first ever 'proper' track day on a circuit, rather than an airfield was at Brands Hatch. I turned up in my E30 and couldn't believe how fast the red Mk1 Golf was going round.

Great driver and a really pleasant chap from my experience.

RIP - Both Golfs are legends. They were certainly peddled well!

Shame, he was a nice bloke. I met him once at Brands a long time ago when I was there with Jason Shergold testing the Golf we had just built. He's gone now too.

There was a chap there with a brand new Ferrari 360, the tan Ferrari gloves, the red branded overalls, boots, the lot. The Reeves Golf and ours were lapping him. He was furious! Good times!

Found the thread mentioning it. Not much detail there, and the pictures are gone, but I liked reading Jason's words again. Thought I'd share it.

Sad news, I never met him but knew of the legend in VW circles and remember hearing that about the shop getting destroyed. RIP.
    Too many cars...

Very sad, as said a legend!

Met him and Trevor in the very early days of his MK2 golf development, probably well over 20 years ago!

Pre 1.8T when I first saw them as those engines weren't really so available. Think the red Mk1 at least was running an ABF or 9A on ITBs.

As ste says in the early days they ran van kronenberg 16vs from Holland, then went on to 1.8t's when they became a thing. I think they were one of the first people in UK to put the 1.8t in the earlier chassis.

RIP Maurice. Met him a few times, him and his son trevor for always happy to offer tips. His mk1 was a major source of inspiration for me and held the Curborough sprint Clubgti lap record from 2003 till recent.
