Good question! They broke the passenger window and it appears they then removed the rear view mirror and the overhead console, presumably where the movement detectors are. The alarm didn't go off. They removed the seats and took them out through the broken window. They didn't open the doors, and they remained locked. It looks like they knew exactly what they were doing. It needs a window, a door card, a pair of seats, some paint to the nearside from scratching, probably where they dragged the seats out and let them scrape down the outside of the door. He is concerned insurance will write it off, and he has owned it from new. He'd very much like to keep it I think. My idea is for a pair of very nice recaro race seats to go in it. A fraction of the money and a more focussed thing.

Yes! Buy it back salvage and they may make some money out of it. Am sure they'd rather not have it happen in the first place but if they take your advice they'd have some cash back and less risk of it happening again.

Sounds similar to B7 RS4 a few years back, numerous cars written off due to the cost of replacing stolen front seats, madness.

Thing is you don't just go and buy a seat, they're sold in component form. I know one of the seat covers for my edition 30 is £800 so it soon adds up.

Exactly what I thought of too. Same seat frames too, obvs trimmed differently.

They're perfect seats for a road car IMO, I wouldn't be putting 'proper' buckets in one, they're a part of what makes a Clubsport S what it is.

They'll be straight in a van to eastern Europe.

Yikes! I had no idea seats could cost so much, that's madness. I've never paid £12k for a full car, though so am somewhat out of touch with this end of the market

Are they coded to the car in any way or traceable?

I wonder how they managed to get the motion sensors out before they went off.
All very interesting & ingenius & probably a good nights work for someone.

    Chances of being caught-slim.
Punishment for doing so - slapped wrist likely.

Effect on victim-car written off. Something not right there.

There's always a way, someone tried to break into my Mk5 and it was attempted by removing the indicator and doing some shit, they must have been disturbed as I went to the car in the morning and it was just sat with the indicator missing.

Insurance wrote this off. Expect to see it on bluecycle soon, they collected it this week.

    Jesus.

Someone figured out recently how to retrofit the 7.5’s fancy ‘Nav and digital dash to older cars. Now they’re being removed like wildfire and there’s no shortage of punters willing to turn a blind eye to have them.

Worst part of the VAG ownership, the scenester’s love of stolen parts.
Takes a lot of skill to look this bad you know...
