    Car Freitag needs to stop

Having just unexpectedly been shown the video Iíve seen this absolute insanity needs to end.

The crowds just baying for crashes are horrific.

I may have had a couple of jars when I wrote that but my feelings are still fairly strong about Car Freitag.

That Polo crash video is absolutely sickening.

Having never been for the friday before I wont go again. 4am people where getting at Brunchen. Alot of idiots on the roads let alone on track.

Sadly it wont ever end. Its a day of going out driving but with the ring being where they all end up. The polo had no chance sadly.

I Googled it but the explanation wasn't very definitive. Is it illegal Street racing?

It's just a very busy and spectacular (crashy) Friday TF event.

It's a more thrilling version of typing 'do a barrel roll' into Google.

You won't stop Car Freitag any more than you'll shut down TF.

It's been like that since I first went in 2005, was like that I expect for years and years before. We've all laughed at the old timers rolling over at AF video.

I won't stop, nor should it stop, much like cheese rolling its a very dangerous yet entertaining tradition. Lets face it we all watch lap one of the touring cars / F1 hoping there's a shunt, I'm fairly certain even with my limited opinion of human beings that none of those getting excited at Karfrietag were hoping for a serious accident and serious injury.

I assume the occupants of the polo were all ok?

Apparently not dead and in a stable condition, which given the incident seems like a pretty positive outcome.

Nothing to do with Car Frietag,, everything to do with a driver trying too hard.

Happens on nearly every session, every day the track is open.

Sometimes not as bad as that, sometimes worse.

If it offends/shocks you, don't do it

And remember, public roads are even more dangerous!

There is another vid from another angle. I think he lifted off because he saw/reacted to something happening ahead.

IMHO you can't compare risk/safety with a Ring Trackday and a Easter Friday TF..... Or have I read you wrong?

The internets suggests they slipped on coolant from the broken down car up ahead, and it all went downhill from there as he then saw the stopped cars up ahead as well. Bit of a freak accident! Not a nice way to end a date :(, the GF has been on FB and said both are fine and doing well considering.

Re-affirms my belief the Ring is best for me on DN days, with a helmet, roll cage, and mates :D.

edit: That said, my last TF laps were glorious on a wet and cold October morning in 2014 :( - Might be best to bow out of TF on a high :D

Happens on DN days too. Si Godwin lost it on some coolant in his caterham on the last DN I did..
Simon no longer owes me anything, Dave does though.
Floyd probably owes me at least twenty with the interest rolling up...

Technically, track days can be more dangerous than TF/car Frietag.

On a mega busy TF day, you simply can't get up to a high speed due to the number of cars on the road.

On a track day, speeds can be considerably higher, but there can still be clueless drivers on track.

When the incidents happen, they can be massive.

The polo hit coolant and was a passenger it snapped 90 degrees and was nothing he could do. Apex bmw taxi was nearly gone as well the driver of said car said but was very very lucky to get control of it

Having visited last week end after many years of abstinence, the one thing that shocked me most was how much higher the speeds appeared to be on TF.

So much so that after a couple of laps of TF in the MX5, I felt uncomfortable doing any more. The machinery seems to have changed. I dont know if its an easter weekend thing, but a solid proportion of cars were either very high end or track focused weapons.

I had a lap with Dale in the project 8, which was probably a 7.45 or so and he still had to contend with a car catching us up and plenty of others that were only marginally slower.

However good the skill of all the drivers doing these times, they have to make overtaking choices which I would not fancy when coming up to a slower car.
the older I get, the faster I used to be.
