    F1 2019.

First day of pre season testing today. I'll keep my eye on the autosport feed

    https://www.autosport.com/f1/live/28...t-day-one-2019

Looking forward to the season as usual. There is a part of me that hopes the Honda keeps breaking down, just to see Horner and Verstappen lose their shit but I'd prefer 3 teams fighting for the win.

Hoping the Renault gives Danny a chance to get involved too.

There's a part of me would like to see a full meltdown at Ferrari with Leclerc & Vettel. Think Hamilton Alonso 2007.

However if that happens it will probably just pave the way for an easy 6th double for Merc...which I don't really want to see.

    Definitely 100% this.

Williams missing at least the first couple of days of testing because their car still isn't finished yet. I can't see them being anywhere but last again this year, sadly.

I'd like them to have a fantastic engine for 5 races, then a terrible one for 5, and repeat. The press conferences would be quite emotional

Ferrari win day 1, with the fastest time and most laps. No Hondas have blown up (yet).

Ferrari have already said they're going to to prioritise Vettel this season.

Mercedes are keeping their card closed to their chest so far. Bottas and Hamilton both completing full race simulations yesterday.

Ferrari looking quick but the RedBull hasn`t broken down enough yet

As for Williams. Oh dear, something is fundamentally wrong there.
"Just as concerning for Williams, insiders say the car does not look like it will be quick when it does finally hit the track.

Sources say the car is projected to be as much as two seconds slower than last year's, which was already the slowest on the grid."

Netflix has commissioned 10 episodes of the series, which will become available on March 8th.

That looks like it could be interesting

Rumours this morning that Sky have got rid of Ted Kravitz and Anthony Davidson. I hope not, as they were the two I really enjoyed watching. Could be the final nail in the Sky coffin for me.

Well they signed Karun Chandock and Jenson Button over the winter, so they were getting a bit heavy. They already had more people than they could sensibly use. I can see KC taking over Ted's role.

a (now deleted tweet) that says it's down to clash of personalities with Scott Young, head of Sky F1. "The new boss hates him and everyone there hates the new boss". Allegedly.
He was OK, but sometime just rambled and it made awkward viewing.

I can't just warm to PDR. A Sullen scott who never seems to smile and certainly isn't charismatic infront of the camera

Herbert, why is he still there ? Even Damon isn't the most natural presenter you'll ever watch.

A bit of trimming wouldn't go amiss imo.

    My predictions....

Three way title battle: Hamilton vs. Verstapen vs. LeClerc

    Honda not reliable enough
LeClerc dominates Vettel in more qualifying and races, multi 21 inversed
    Hamilton wins by Spa
    Ricardo gets a win

    Edit: Hopes :)

A few episodes into F1: Drive to Survive now and rather enjoying it having taken a 5-year break from actually watching whole races.
Are the sparks coming off the backs of the cars a retro effect added onto the body/chassis to please viewers, or what?

The planks. Titanium running plates, has to be a certain amount of it left at the end to ensure the cars arenít cheating and running too low. Or, yes, added to make night races cooler :-)

Well judging by how often sparks are flying off the back ends, Iíd say most of them are running too low
Looks like a deliberate Ď80s nostalgia effect.

They've always run skid blocks to prevent plank wear, but they switched to titanium a few years ago specifically to get sparks from them.

Fastest lap gets a championship point for 2019

    Article link

A driver must be classified in the top 10 in order to be awarded the additional point, which will count towards both the drivers' and constructors' championships.

I've checked it out, and that's correct.

I'll be honest, I'm happy to pay that.

Sky have been screwing me over F1 for about 5 years now

We moved in 2014. At the time Sky HD customers got F1, non HD did not.

We upgraded to HD when we moved, only to find that the F1 on HD was no longer offered ! I was gutted. Many complaints etc, but they never gave in. I never got the F1.

Only other option was to pay £20 a month for the full sports package which I have no interest in.

When F1 released that they were going to have their own channel I planned to get that, only to find the Sky exclusive rights stopped it in the UK

£10 a month i the best offer I'm going to get. So I've added that straight away.

Now I can enjoy live races with the boy instead of having to record and watch on a Monday or stay up stupidly late for the highlights.

    Happy Prawn.

First race (and possibly the first three races) will be shown on Sky One.

Some races later in the season may be on free-to-air channels such as Pick.

Well. It appears that there were a few bags of sand stuffed into the Mercedes W10 during winter testing.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing Ferrari getting dropped like third period French, so I really enjoyed quali today. I suspect the race won't be as one-sided, though.

I was hoping for less of a performance difference

Don't get me wrong, I still want Merc to beat Ferrari, but sadly domination like that never makes for close races.

Although saying that, the Merc looks bloody twitchy at times, wandering around on the main straight. Be interesting to see how that translates to race pace.

For comparison, Mercedes were 0.7s ahead of Ferrari in Q for this race last year.

It did, didn't it! Did you see the way Lewis did a controlled powerslide towards the end of P3. Its OK to do that in Practice and Qualli but won't do his tyres any good in the race!

Also, how far off the pace are Williams. Apparently there is a fundamental design problem which will "take months" to rectify. Presumably this explains Paddy Lowe's leave of absence?

The thing that surprised me was how everyone (apart from Merc obviously) expected Ferrari to be closer this year.

Red Bull being in the mix is certainly a good thing

Great to see Mercedes back on top
That car looks so stiff though

Even better to see Redbull up there with Ferrari!
