There's a shell down the road. She'll go all day won't she if you fill it up?

Well.... It gets better mpg than most (probably 14mpg at track pace?), but if there's fuel available not far away, I prefer to run max half a tank of fuel. I will likely bring a 20L jerry can anyway.

    All about the weight saving.

Erm... weight saving? How much difference will that make when we are shoehorning 19 stone ex Submariners into your passenger seat?

On a day like this where you are taking people out for a couple of laps then swapping passengers, I'd just brim it before you start.

It's not about laptimes, half a tank won't make a difference either way.

And oddly, or not...you'll probably find a queue of people wanting to go out in the dirty old smoke machine, passing over Lotus and Porsche in the process. Weird, I know, but loads of the guys and gals like to go out in something a bit different.

I'll cope with that. I could do with losing 2 or 3 stone myself, but if I can keep a couple of stone out the tank, then "every little helps"

PS: There shouldn't be any shoehorning. Front end is still just a pair of mk5 Golf GTI seats, and normal seatbelts. Buckets are on the bucket list. ahem.

As Si is bringing the Clio, I might bring the Shitbox Racing Golf instead. The response from beneficiaries climbing out at Thruxton was hilarious!
Besides, it bizarrely seems to attract a lot of attention from the VW scene, so if there are any fanboi beneficiaries, it might even be preferable......... I’d take the Senna myself

Good call. Still like to give a good experience though. I'll fill to first click, then bring spare 20L so I don't need to leave the venue on potentially (and likely) illegal tyres for road use (due to tread, not being slicks)

From my experience, most of them have never been on track before so if you drive competently they will be impressed anyway. whether you are a couple of seconds quicker or slower won`t make the slightest bit of difference to your passengers.

I`d say leave it in a lower gear so it revs more and sounds faster. But you`ve got a diesel......

UPDATE. We have had some frustrating news from Silverstone today that they have double booked, so instead of the full GP circuit we will now be using the International layout, still nearly 2 miles of circuit and we will based from the fancy Wing.

If that’s terminal for someone booked on, we’ll refund you. Out of our control I’m afraid.

The Silverstone team have been very apologetic, promising a day later in the year as compensation which is good, and I am hoping they will throw in a week of hard labour from Nigel Mansell as well.

The alternative was GP on Feb 1st, but we’ve got 150 bed spaces booked in Bicester, the Edinburgh Recovery Centre is flying guys down, more are coming up from Plymouth, and with 68 confirmed paid drivers coming we simply couldn’t change the date.

There isn’t a smilie that sums up my feelings. Harrumph.

    Sorry to hear that Jim.
It suits me though, as I won't have a car for this event. Let me know when the other one is. Hopefully I'll make that one.

Bit of a bugger, but on the plus side it could mean more 'goes' in different kit for beneficiaries as sessions might be slightly shorter enabling more swappage. I tend to find you come in more frequently using the shorter track.

Will STILL be a fantastic day

A little late to the party on this, but I stumbled across this information on the Silverstone website:

That is a disappointing development, and it will be fun for whomever is assigned to direct traffic. At least we have the Wing building to shelter and entertain in.

The hope they halved the circuit rental price for you!

Do we get to hawk on the other track too, surely they’re nice people?

I am not too fussed about not doing the full GP, but assume a partial refund or invite to a future day might be on the cards? Whatever it is will be new for me, but happy to go along with whatever happens. I have the Devon mindset of not giving a hell really - Boys just wanna have fun. That was the song, right?

Unfortunately (or not) all my power is made from about 3000rpm-5300rpm which is my rev limiter, and it will pull right until its bouncing off it. So it should be a decent amount of fun for anyone in the passenger seat.

Quick question - who is actually ‘running’ the day. My insurer wants me to name a TDO.

Is it Silverstone themselves? MM? RingWeekends? Etc.

I don't mind crisp as long as dry (isn't that a veg oil?....). I remember doing a day at Cadwell which was delayed an hour for the truck to go around and blowtorch most of the track in the shade. My car loves cold air though.

Rather inconveniently my brief early retirement is ending a week before this event - so I'll be enjoying the delights of Kandahar Airfield rather than RAF Silverstone

However, my loss is your gain - not *just* because of my absence, but also because I have a room booked and paid for at the Brackley Hatch Premier Inn which is available to the highest bidder*/**

*Payment direct to those lovely MM chaps please.

** I don't really want an auction - someone just make a reasonable offer and give it to MM and they can have the room - post up here so we all see once it's claimed

We may not have Dex, but we will have drums and rock and roll.

More Dad jokes available on the day. Don't let that put you off, though

Given that this car has a 100% (1 from 1) record of remodelling a tyre wall on track days, then perhaps Silverstone in February wasn't a smart idea for me anyway....

If any of your lads need a hotel room the night before at Brackley Hatch then give me a shout - the booking is non-refundable so I'll be sad if the bed is empty.

Just wondering if there's plans for a little group meal at the bolted on eating place on the sunday evening?

I am aiming to arrive about 6pm I think. Leaving Devon after lunch and its a good 4 hours in my truck pootling up at 60mph.
