    Tyre sizing

Sold my 330d touring and bought 530 touring. Currently running 17 inch steels with winter tyres on 330 225/45 section. Looking to replace with 225/55 and transfer to the 530 to restore ride height as 530 has 19 inch alloys with lower profile.

Question for THOSE WHO KNOW. Is this a practical proposition?

The important bit is the rolling radius.
Have a look here and play around with options until you find the correct tyre size you need:

Will 17" wheels fit over the brakes?

Front discs are 340mm IIRC and the calipers are huge.

If you have the Performance brake package, you dont stand a chance, they are 360mm IIRC.

    I run 18's as winters.

Also, side note: Most of the big brands are now recommending getting winter tyres in the same width as your 'summer' tyres. Unless you drive on powdered snow (pretty unlikely in the UK). I think this is because I have just bought some 225s (which to be fair, at the time of making the e61 are the recommended winter tyres for a 530d).

Will offer up 17s to see if they fit. I have my doubts. If that's the case, a nice set of 17 inchers with winters will be hitting the market!

Have tried looking for steel 18s but no luck. Again, any recommendations?

And thanks re info so far

I bought 18" X5 wheels and run them. They needed a 15mm spacer on the front, but it was the cheapest way of buying a set of wheels. I just put my 245 Dunlop winters on them.

My 17x7.5 ET34 X1 steels went over my 340mm M-Performance brakes ok. There's also plenty of pics on on the 'net of 530ds on 17" wheels, although I can't find one with the X1 steels.

Offset is likely to be the snag, otherwise I'd say assuming you have the same steels I had, they'll fit.

What wheel/tyre sizes are on the B-Pillar sticker??

    EDIT:

    According to this, they'll supply a 17x8 ET34 alloy with a 225/55 R17 for a 530d.

So, I reckon an X1 steel with the same tyre will be ok. Check this is what you have.
