Thread: McLaren top trumps

Genuinely thought the original press shots were a piss take, or a rip off copy, but the one above looks like a different car - and how big is that rear wing!

I always thought a darker colour would suit it. Or maybe a bright, flat colour. That black one looks great

It is not a timeless looker, but if you want to go proper fast, what is these days?

I suspect that seeing it up close reveals lots of details that excite, a joy for the armchair aero expert.

From the feedback that I’ve seen, the real-world buyers of McLaren’s that have had proper exposure to the car at events, really, really like it and placed their orders. I guess that is all that matters really. But just not in that minging McLaren orange. It is horrid.

    • befriend an owner
    • become one of those wanky youtube video twats and blag a drive
    • become a proper car journo and after many years of graft you might get lucky
    • win big on the lottery
If the whole world was filled with just animals and David Attenborough, it would be a beautiful place. Unfortunately, it's been overrun by 7.6-billion assholes.

    Worked for me!
The thing I miss most about leaving McLaren is driving them occasionally.

Whoever it is that frequents the A27 in a prototype might of been late into the office this morning. As it was sat at the side of the A27 with its hazards on.

    Usually see it around Lewes.

Can anyone shed any light on what it is. I would say it might be a 675lt type replacement.

    ^^

There are many different mules running around (often old cars with ‘new’ bits added (powertrains or specific body items), you would need to describe it in more detail for anyone to try and answer better.

I have ‘heard’ there is a van mule running around the roads near by testing a new powertrain...

The main thing that makes a 720S look better is parking it next to the McSenna.

Nope. The owner has only had it a couple of years.

Followed this home friday night! Very nice.

Mondoe to the left was odd. Extended tail pipes, an anemometer type device on the roof and lots of data logging stuff on the dash.

No doubt I will be alone here, but they all look a bit samey to me

In fact I find most of todays hypercars a bit rubbish from an aesthetic perspective. At least with something like a GT2 RS it has a more 'car' type of look about it.

Mid-engined cars often look awkward. I still think the Miura is probably the most balanced-looking mid-engined car out there.
I'm more of an early Countach guy myself but if you want engine porn the F40 and F50 had beautifully simple rear ends, each with a glimpse into the engine bay that looked natural and not forced.
Looking up the arse of that new McLaren in traffic isn't quite so pleasant.
