I was hoping that a DN angle might be the way forward.

    I'm gutted about this.

For the record and not sure who else would be up for it, however for such a brilliant day I'd happily pay £300.

Hopefully we can sort something and potentially even find a goodwood date for some of us to sign on to. Probably my favourite circuit!

I've said it to g personally, however I'll say it again 'thanks for arranging this' it's honestly a great family day out.

Hopefully we have the resolve amongst us to avoid this event passing into history.

For my part, Gareth deserves a massive BZ for everything he has done.

I feel like the better combination would be:

    Ace Nurburgring!

And all for £300 for the day! Where do I sign up!

Sad, I was hoping that I could have made it to one of these events one day.

Really disappointed about this - 2017 would have been the first one I could actually attend and it's not happening!

I've just signed a contract with Bilster Berg, the circuit hire cost and noise limitations mean and it won't be a cheap day no matter how I try and slice it.

It's fine on circuits with larger capacities, you can spread the cost/risk but it's places like Goodwood with number limitations (noise enforced or otherwise) that it becomes difficult.

I think you could probably have pulled it off Gareth, sounds like you had the right sprinkling of positive vibes that people really want on an event. There's always a premium for that kind of atmosphere otherwise you're competing with the bottom feeders!

Even at £300 per car that would still be a huge risk to UB at the revised rental price and would also require him paying for his own place.

In 2014 it was a super popular event and sold out very quickly. Don't know why.

2015 was very stressful, there was massively reduced interest and right up to the day, UB was making a loss. I spent most the day trying to fill open places, charging for single sessions, whoring out pax laps, just to break even. I think we made it, but I was glad it wasn't my cash being gambled.

2016 was more successful, probably because Steve was running it and not me.

G has always been pragmatic about the money, he enjoyed the social, the kudos and the great weather, but risking another £4K and relying on folks paying over £300 for a sessioned track day with strict noise restrictions makes no sense.

I love that place. I love the ACE event. However unless G opens it up to a totally different demographic (it was always supposed to be about friends and customers with an emphasis on the social rather than a bunch of strangers) then I personally can't see it happening again.

Can't imagine Lord March will be dropping his prices anytime in the near future either.

Sad times. But on the plus side 12 of us are going to the Revival on the Sunday, so the social should continue.......

Sadly this is the reality. Lord March has never really been out to actually help the trackday enthusiast in my opinion, and, regardless of the incredible portfolio of motorsport at Goodwood every year it's very much a money making scheme and a bloody good one at that. You only need to look at the ticket prices for the Revival etc to appreciate this. Average punters are gladly funding an old boys day out.

Thanks for all the hard work Gareth / Nick /Steve, it was fun whilst it lasted.

I did Combe recently for £155 and IIRC the circuit was charging about £7-8k.

It's not Goodwood, but that's why I like it (although I appreciate it's a lot more of a schlep from the Ace offices).

Combe is a great circuit, my favourite actually. It doesn't have the atmosphere of Goodwood, or the vintage burger stand, but they have the option of running full OPL with a couple of extra dB noise allowance than Goodwood.

If you don't have hooks into Combe I'm happy to introduce you to Richard Armstrong from 928.org, who runs the day I was on recently.

That event is run as a 'closed list' where if you're on the list you can suggest someone is added to the list - much like the Ace day it's designed to keep the clientele out of the gutter. Seems to work - only had one red flag at the last event, as a result of a Tuscan suddenly clearing itself of its running problems and the owner suffering from a lack of talent coming out of Quarry, as a result.

    I'd be up for Combe.

The best bit with NL / Ace days is the trust you have with the other cars on track. The closed list idea is a good one and I can see how that works.

Crashal Combe is on a lot of insurer's black list.

Can Jim gets his hands on Prodrive's track? It has the added fun of the skillz area in the middle.

My wooly hat collection is far too conservative for rallying!

I'm just keen for this to be at Snet for no other reason than Dave hates the place.

But having never attended a single ACE day, I really do hope you're taking my comments with a pinch of salt.
