Broadband in this country is a joke.

I don't know of anyone outside of business that actually recieves what is offered...

I'm on an up-to 20MB package with BT and regularly have speeds as low as 1.5MB

BT have been well known for a much lower than advertised speed. I've got the 20 meg package and average between 10-13 meg speeds. Have seen it go up to the full 20 at non-peak times though!

    I'm on a BT 20MB package too.

This is what I actually get though...

Faster than what I had in Germany and 1/3 of the price so not too bothered, yet.

Couldn't be arsed doing screengrabs, but in Safari I was getting about 3.8 Mb/s at this time of day according to Speedtest.net.
In the past my BT connection has been around 6Mb/s, and it's fine.

Speedtest.net told me to try a faster browser (Google Chrome) which I have already installed.
It yielded a paltry 1.8MB/s, and it's totally fookin' over-rated. Has been since release.

Firefox is nice and stable for forums, but everything else goes through Safari.

Well less than 1meg ATM B). BT are putting new fibre optic lines in this year so we should get some decent speeds before Christmas :thumb:

I have a 'Wanadoo' router from about 5 years ago at the mo, that could probably be the problem. I have seen some good download speeds at night time circa 600kb/s :thumb:

I think it is about time I got a new ISP and a new router.

Possibly. Same copper wire so has to be kit related. Surely Lee/Neil can tell us?.....

I know everyone has their own experiences, but O2 for me were 100%. Consistent 15mg speeds, good service and no downtime.

I should fekkin hope so given the Aus govt is spending $43 billion putting this new National Broadband Network in.

Exactly why a couple of rural Tasmanian towns are the first to get it I cannot fathom but its amusing that people living in London have slower connections than the average farm animal in Tasmania.

<geek> it would actually take a bit over half a minute to download the full content of a DVD (4.7GB) in its original quality </geek>
