John, I have to do some measuring to do first but I'll probably do the same as you. Is Curtis going to revavle your kit? If so I'll be very interested in seeing the results.

Hi all - another newbie here.
Was on a business trip today and those familiar red and white kerbs lept out from some pictures above someones desk - I had already clocked the Scooby in the car park outside, so said hello to Gary, who pointed me here!

Tessa and I have a Caterham 1.6k Supersport. Been to the Ring a few times now - in fact, it was my first ever track day experience, and never looked back.

We have a website
mycaterham.com

with quite a big Ring section, so please have a look, and perhaps say hello in the guest book. Lots of pictures taken when we hired some mountain bikes from Eddy at Hotel Nordschleiffe and biked around the outside of the track. There are some video clips as well, though I have to add some more.

Look forward to meeting some of you sometime no doubt!!

cheers,
angus & tessa

Nice to have you guys onboard ........ We have plenty of vids, enough to keep you happy for a few days at least.

I really like your site, very well presented.

Look forward to plenty of pics and videos of the caterham on here too.

Feel free to let the Caterham world know about us.

Cheers :thumb:

Great pictoral view (and comprehensive ;) ) of the whole lap Angus. I have done loads of laps in various Caterhams and whilst they aren't that quick up the Kesselchen (even an R500 with 247bhp), there's nothing like them from Hohe Acht onwards! If you have proper tyres i.e. ACB10's or A048's, then they are hot by this stage of the lap and stick like sh*t to a blanket, and as there is no weight to lug around you can take the most ridiculous liberties!

I have been forunate enough to lap the 'ring in many different cars including a Noble M400 and 911 Turbo S (even a shonky old 205 driven by Gary  ;) ) but my favourite laps have been in a Superlight R. If only that could be my Groundhog day........ :thumb:

Welcome to the club.

Hiya,

A quick hello, as I find myself here after chatting with Gary (Gutmann Pug) on scoobynet.

I've had a scoob WRX for one year, with D2 coilover suspension and a few other suspension mods so far. Plan is to spend sensible money (?!) on making it handle and stop well, but keep the engine standardish. I'm interested in taking it to the Ring in 2006, in addition to more trackdays, a few sprints and maybe hillclimbs.

My background is bike racing, at club level, and know my way around most UK circuits. Never did the Ring on a bike (bit concerned about safety, tbh) but very much looking forward to it in the car.

Perhaps see some of you at the scoob/evo trackday at Brands on 6 Feb (99 open pitlane, plus 25 sidc membership, see sidc forum).

Cheers,
Andy

Hi Gary,

Am fine, thanks.

Currently on the lookout for good alignment (including caster) place near Cambridge for my scoob. In north London there's Elite I guess, and maybe Zen Performance (scoob specialist) at Wellingborough. Am replacing my current 340lb front springs (ouch!) with 280's and will take the opportunity to get a better alignment job than last time.

cheers
Andy

Hello rather than lurk rudely I thought I'd better introduce myself.
Names Paul, for my sins I currently drive a 2002 Golf V6 4motion 3 door.
The handling on these as standard is diabolical so I got some Eibach/R32 suspension fitted and its a lot better, at least I didn't crash on our October ring trip.
Other than that and some ceramic redstuff pads its pretty much bog standard and sits on 17 inch wheels. Hardly a finely honed track tool but at least the Recaros keep your back in shape for the long drive.
With another 50bhp, better steering and bigger brakes it would be a handy dual purpose shopping/ring car.

People keep telling me to buy a 944 as a second car, hopefully one that can do a ring trip without breaking down.
Either that or flog the Golf and buy an M3 Evo with absurdly low miles and a lucky charm sellotaped to the VANOS. Thats if there are any left that haven't had some cretin fit Lexus rear lights and tinted windows.
Anyway enough wibbling, at least some of you have got proper cars on here. Hope to do at least one ring trip per year from now on. The place is awesome.

Proper cars, perhaps lol ;)

944? Who'd own one of those? Sheesh! Lucky to get one lap in before the suspension collapses :D

..............or indeed 100 laps :D :thumb:

Personally i'd find anormal 2.5 944 a bit lacking. Now the uglier and much lighter 924 S would be good fun. Lightened and prepped could be 170bhp and less than 1000kg.

Hello everyone,

Been going to the Ring for 3 years. Did around 180 laps last year...

Weapons of choice are a Porsche 928 GT and a VW GTI Mk2 16v KR... The Porsche has been slightly moded for power - 360Bhp, whilst the VW is running everything else modified bar the drive train :D

The Porsche Coilovers will be changed in the next 45 days - LEDA Coilovers or Koni + Hypercoils, new 928 Developments ARBs and Polybushes, whilst the Golf is going to Stealth Racing for a tune up...

I hope to see you all at the Ring. Come and say Hi!

Porsche reg No is G588CLK
Golf reg No is F202WNP

I also sometimes drive my brother's Mk2 GTI reg No C9944HP...

One of the rear units rattled, which I could never cure and then the bottom mount broke between SX and Aremberg!

I was just not happy Keeping stuff on my car that I was not happy with.

I'm not out to set the fastest lap ever, I just want stuff that is reliable and fits.

Dave, got me thinking about buying cheap, buying twice :(

Alcon Brakes 1500 - sold 700
Brakeman set up (a lot of promises from the supplier but total shite) 1200 refunded 750 after threat of legal action
AP brakes 1300 - Sorted :thumb:

So 1250 then a set of proper brakes  When Floyd asked me which brakes to buy I did not have to give it much thought as you can imagine <_<

That's why I want to make sure that I know what I am buying - 1300 is a lot of dosh on a car... My marginal sub 9min Golf Mk2 cost 700 including the purchase price and the mods...
