I sort of get the replica thing. If the underlying chassis and driveline is a decent one, building something that doesn’t look dissimilar to your idol seems like a reasonable thing to do. However, that Pontiac was probably best considered ‘adequate’ in the mid-80s and one glance tells you that it is a long way from the real thing. What does that owe the builder? £10k? £15k? A million man hours? You could have had a really decent performance car for that. I just don’t understand.

The only replicas I truly get (and would own without shame) are 356 Speedsters and Cobras.
The former due to the insane price for a real one, the latter for total drivetrain freedom of choice.
They would each have to be hyper-accurate replicas though - the correct length and width, stance, all that jazz.

The whole toolroom-Ferrari-replica market is something else though, rich old Goodwood racers needing a version of their rare car that they can afford to crash...

    This is a Honda S2000:

You would definitely get more (and better) fanny in that than in an S2000

It's all S2000 on the interior, though, so a bit of a giveaway. I've also only photographed it from the most flattering angle.

It's a bit like buying a Golf R or an M4 on credit. If you had all the money saved, you'd probably do the sensible thing and stick it in a house or something. Buying on the tick means you're doing man maths all the way. I admit, a Golf R or M4 look miles better...

I'm sure there are a thousand things that are wrong with it. But at a glance I'd suggest it isn't a bad looking car. And the other 99% of the population won't have a clue what it is or isn't.

Well, Lamborghini also make tractors, so they may well be onto Renault for this obvious IP theft
