Thread: Track breakdown recovery (ADAC)

  1. #1
The ADAC is the German equivalent of our AA/RAC. Their trucks recover cars from the ring along with a few other companies. If you need recovery it will cost you a 175 Euro fee to get you off the track. If you are a member of the ADAC you can ask for a ADAC recovery truck and not pay this cost.

Heres the good bit. ADAC Classic membership costs just 44 Euros a year. For this you get a years insurance against recovery fees & mechanical assistance if you have a problem locally. ADAC Plus membership covers all the above but also includes full European cover. This costs 78 Euros a year and can be used as full cover during any European trip substituting the need for joining a UK breakdown company. This is the one that I now have and I am now safe in the knowledge that I can get the car repatriated to the UK along with all passengers if the worse happens

BTW, it does work, a member from here used it last year to get their car off the Ring.

I have the classic ADAC membership but I'd like to upgrade to full euro cover if it covers the UK? Does anyone know if it covers the UK and can you get home start with it as well as get multiple vehicles on the policy? And what about spouses?

I would like to add to this, that if you wish to cancel your ADAC membership, you have to give written notification before 3 months of your policy's expiry date.

I am told that you can do this by emailing adac@adac.de but have not tried this for myself yet

If you need to contact ADAC from UK you can call 0049 221 4727 444 and mumble "sprechen sie English, bitte" like i just did

Of course we can do payment by phone again.
Since credit card information cannot be saved in our system, I'm sorry to tell you, that we have to do this every year.
If you like, you could also fax me your credit card information.

PS if your car isn't worth much they may not recover it back home on this policy. I'm not sure if they do an option where you pay more and they guarantee recovery whatever the value of the vehicle, although other companies do, just so you are aware. However I'm unsure if other companies recover (or refund recovery) for Ring breakdowns/failures.

Can you join in the ADAC shop in the new development? Has anyone done this?

I've just used my ADAC plus at the Ring. Car was recovered to Bongards and ADAC paid for a night in the Blau Ecke while i waited for car to be fixed. Very recommended. :thumb:

    Hi

I can indeed concur that they call the wagon you get to the yard, pass them your card and you are on your way. In my case being towed at 80mph by Ted Hankey in a Saab, as he threw stuff out of the window at me. If you have broken down with a brake issue, or are sound of mind, I would firmly suggest not calling Karl for a tow, stopping 2 tons of Saab estate downhill at 60mph with an old E30 is scary lol

Cant fault how quickly Petra sorted my membership out.

AA wanted £65 single trip or £122 for year and that with discount.......

I sorted my ADAC earlier this month. Have email confirmation that I'm covered, awaiting documents through the post but one phone call and a scanned application form later, was all processed within 24 hours.

I've used the service twice in the UK. Each time they sent an AA van and each time it was for a car I was in but not my own! No problem either. Just said I was using the car.

I did the same this week. Not having a number plate to hand caused a delay on the phone call but once I got it, all sorted & even managed to book the AA to arrive when I got back to MK after work

ADAC doesn't cover the Ring - according to Petra

ADAC doesn't cover the Ring - according to Petra. Just took out ADAC membership and she said that they do not cover the Ring and if there are ADAC trucks on the ring that is a local arrangement between the trucker and Ring Management and the driver.

Good value at €80 Euros which includes full Europe wide cover right across to Russia and includes repatriation to the UK.

Hopefully we'll never have to find out if Ring cover is provided / included!

  23. #23
They did cover it in June.......

  24. #24
really, i would check this as thats the whole reasona lot of people get it.

In fact my brother bought his from the ADAC man who was by the barrers during TF. That was the big selling point.

Tempted to get this next year. I've been paying £50 I think for UK cover for the year on RAC with my parents policy. Then for my week to the Ring was £45 extra and then my 4 day weekend was £30 and 3 day weekend £25. So might aswell just get ADAC. Would be interesting to know about the Ring recovery though.

Some parts of the ADAC organisation think the Ring isn't covered. The guys on the ADAC truck at the Ring think it is and that's what counts

She said the same to me a while ago too. What she meant was if you go to the 'Ring with the "aim of achieving top speeds" (i.e. racing), then the ADAC will not recover you. But everybody knows they do recover you because the trucks are there all the time.

Damn this email renewal mallarky is remarkably efficient. Bordering on Germanic...

MUCH better than the somewhat archaic fax I've had to use previously.

For what it's worth, I've had ADAC plus cover for years, and added Maddie for 19 euros.

With the bobbing about we do all over Europe it makes sense, but have only had cause to use them once, in the UK, and as already said, the AA turned up.

Thought I'd mention too, we had a problem with one of the cars at Spa recently, AA cover, they came up to the F1 paddock to take it away. No issues.

I think I'd still rather have ADAC, on price alone it's a no brainer.....

As far as I'm aware, Petra doesn't deal with that side of things anymore. The last time I spoke to the ADAC, I spoke to Michael. However, that was around August last year, so things may have changed. Anyway, his email address is...

Is there a maximum number of call outs per year with ADAC? As the owner of the world's most unreliable* MX5 this is important point for me.

    * I have already used up my 5 call outs to the RAC in the last year.

Clearly a mistake on my half e-mailing them, I was given the line of "Under the FIA umbrella organisation, ADAC cooperates with other automobile clubs. We believe that your local automobile club might offer products that provide more comprehensive protection."

Renewed my ADAC today - Passat has shat itself in some way and won't run.

Unfortunately it turns out ADAC membership is only good for local recovery, so I'm in a bit of a tight spot

Knock-on from this - using the ADAC number on the card to call them cost £40 on the day I broke down.

Is there a UK 0800 number for them? The benefit of the cost of ADAC vs AA is soon negated if it costs £40 in call charges to get them to you!
