This is a bit wordy with no pics, but it explains everything I went through over the last 5 days.

This was my first trip of the year and I was really eager to get out and get some laps in for the first time in 18 months, especially after the Snow last year!!!

I had decided to give it a go driver all the way there in one go rather than staying in Dover like I have before. After booking an 8am Ferry this meant I would have to drive through the night!!!

I went to bed around 6pm on Friday and got up just after Midnight. Leaving the house around 12:30am felt quite strange. I had a nice steady run down at 65mph and managed to get 45mpg!!! After making a couple of stops to kill a bit of time etc I got to Dover for around 6.45am.

I got on the ferry and promptly got into an argument with the women doing the loading about the fact that my car WOULD NEVER get up the ramp, even though I had it mentioned on my booking and they had radioed ahead to tell her!!! She eventually let me on the bottom deck and I got pride of place first in lines at the doors.

I already new that Mav would be over with a group this weekend, but didnít know he was on the same boat until I saw his car on the dock. I have spoken to him a few times and when I heard his voice in the restaurant on the boat I went and introduced myself, this turned out to be the best thing I did all weekend.

Mav invited me along to join his group for the drive through to the ring, I said fine and met them off the ferry.

After around 100miles we made a stop at a services, on the way into the service I pulled the car out of 5th and went for 4th, it wouldnít go into any gear!! As soon as we stopped I jumped out and checked the linkages, clutch cable and underneath for any oil. There was no issues and the car went into gear fine. Pulling away from the services there was no problems. Around 1 mile down the road, in the outside lane at around 70mph the revs suddenly rose and I hit the limiter, I thought it had popped out of gear so tried to put it back into 5th and it wouldnít go in, hazards went on and I cruised into the hard shoulder. I managed to get it into 3rd and start the car and pull off to try and catch Mav and the group that had slowed down, after around 200m the car then did exactly the same again and I had no drive. I pulled onto the hard shoulder again and cruised along at 10mph until I got into a nice shaded spot on a slip road away from the traffic (I was just before j24 on the E19, north of Maubeuge). I rang Mav, said I was OK and that he should take his group on and I will sort myself out (I should add, I was not part of Mavís booked group, but he was willing to come back and fetch me and take me on there and then, I however, didnít want to impede on his trip and told him to continue on).

I rang the AA and after 20mins of telling the guy where I was it eventually sank in. The first guy showed up 50mins later and agreed it was the clutch. He towed me to off the motorway and left me next to a sports Shop.

1hr 45min later the tow truck arrived, after I had chased them up with 2 more phone calls. He loaded the car and took me to the depot. I then spent 3 hr 20min there trying to sort out what was happeniong with a hire car etc and after around 10 phone calls got a taxi to take me to a Hotel that they had booked (no cars available in the area). What I didnít realise at the time was that they were sending me 50mile back to Lile rather than on to Brussells!!! The Hotel was a shithole, but I had been up for 22hrs so go some sleep.

The next morning the AA had booked a taxi for me at 9.15am and a train leaving Lile station at 11.10. When I got to the station they had given me the wrong booking refferance, so that took more phone calls to sort.

I got the train at 11.10, got to to Brussells for the first change at 11.45, then the train I should have got at 11.59 didnít show, so I had to get one at 1.45. I then had a 2hr 15min journey to Koln sat next to a guy looking at Gay porn on his laptop!!!

The AA had paid for my ticket to Koln but hadnít bothered to get me any further. A call to Mav told me where to head to so I booked a ticket to Arhbruck, via another change at Bonn. This left at 5pm.

Evntually I arrived in the Eifel through the valleys at around 7pm local time, it had taken me 14hrs to do a 3.5hr drive!!!

Mav picked me up from the station and took me down to his hotel where he had sorted me a room. I originally had a room booked in the Motorsport Hotel, but had asked Jim C to go in and let them know I wouldnít be there on Sat after the car broke down.

Sunday night saw me get quite pissed!!!

Monday I went up to the track and went straight out for a couple of sighters with Simon, I really love that car, the noise is fantastic.

I then met Jim and went off to do some driving for him while he hunk out of a window taking pics!!!

After lunch with Jim we headed for a lap and met Dave Boulder in his 120D and had a great half lap, followed by another full lap. Daves 120 cornerís with a great 5* of oversteer and it looks great.

On the way back in Jim noticed Simon heading out, so we went off chasing him for another Lap.

I managed to spot DaveTouring heading out on his own and legged it across the carpark to ask for a pax lap, I had been speaking to the guys on Mavs trip and they had been raving about an English 200SX that they had been watching going sideways everywhere with massive flames coming from the exhaust, this was, offcourse, Dave. The lap with him had to be the best pax lap I have ever head, sideways everywhere and lock to lock around Adenau Forst with smoke everywhere!!! Cheers Dave.

My next lap was my last in the Steve from Mavs trip in his VX220 turbo. The car was really quick and Steve seamed really confident with it. We where being chased by a guy from Mavs trip in a Evo 9 FQ-360 and he was struggling to keep up. At the right hand entry to the Adenau Forst complex the back end stepped out and Steve caught the slide but struggled to get the lock off in time and we went around the other way, spinning onto the grass on the infield. After restarting the car we had a slow drive round to the the bridge where we made an early exit to check the car was ok, everything was fine.

Monday night was more Beer and another good laugh.

Tuesday we got up and headed up to the Michael Schumacher karting centre where we had 10mins for around 10euros. I was itching to get out on circuit and managed to post the fastest lap of the group.

Mav took me back to Dunkerque to get the ferry, and then some of the lads on his trip where heading up my way so I hitched a lift from Dover to jct19 on the M6 with them, where my Dad picked me up.

Altogether I had a decent trip, but it could have been a lot better.

I would have to thank Mav, if he wasnít at the end of the phone giving me advice and telling me where I needed to go to I would have been (Oops I said the F word)ed. He went way above and beyond the call of duty with what he did for me over the weekend and I hope that I get to repay the favour in some way.

I would also like to thank everyone on Mavís trip who made me laugh and fed Mav mayonnaise!!!

I loved every pax lap I had, but special thanks to Dave, that was a GREAT lap, and if your are lucky enough to be out there when he is then grab a lap if you can.

Jim and Simon for being familiar faces to chat to and buy me Lunch, cheers Jim.

so where is the car now? I`m confused about that part :(

Bloody bad luck there Ian, you`d been planning it for months too.
I had the fortune to have Mav there when I crashed last Easter. I had never met him before and he spent a few hours of his time fetching trailers, taking my car from place to place and helping me out when I was stuck. Its good to know there are still people in this world who help others just because they can, not for any sort of reward :thumb:

when my car went tits up on the first trip I got green flag to tow me all the way back to durham - cost £3500 - think I have been black listed since then!
they did try getting me to fly back and them bring the car but I wanted the car to back with me!

Lets just hope your car comes back ok and not damaged.

When my evo had engine problems at the ring the AA towed it back for me, three weeks later and one rather large dent in the roof I had my car back from them.

When I rang them about the roof they denied all knowledge of it and said it must have been like that when they picked it up from me.

£1000 for a new roof skin and I will never use the AA again

They looked a bit shocked and asked me if they could look at it. Im off down there to speak to the owner in the morning.

The way the clutch went i would say it was either the fingers breaking on the pressure plate, or the centre of the friction plate breaking off. It may even turn out to be something inside the box, this was also supplied rebuilt by the same garage though!!!

Ian. Bloody bad news this from the outset of your troubles but at least you got there and still had some fun.

Best of luck sorting it out, it looks like you are getting some action at last :thumb:

Im starting to feel a bit better about it now. Sunday the car was either going to be sold or burnt!!!

Im now looking at changing the suspension to get it to the car i want and doing a few minor mods to the engine instead of a full engine swap. It still might go at christmas, but im going to get it how i want it first.
