Originally, the plan was for Maddie and the children to tag along with the Ringweekender, but some last minute diploma committments for Maddie put the kybosh on that plan!

So, I elected to just bring my 5 year old son, as another good friend of mine was bringing his 5 year old too, the two of them had met before at an Autosport show and seemed to get on OK so we figured it would be good bonding for them as well as us. My brothers were both going to be there anyway so I figured it could be fun.

Headed off Friday evening, met Simon and his lad at Newport Pagnell, had a goot chat and chucked a load of E36 bits in destined for Ken at Nurburg Motorsport with the set of 888's destined for Dale at RSR. We met up with Adam and Ted on the M25 and headed on to Ashford to our hotel for the evening. it was about half past 9 by the time we got there, but Toby and Ted still insisted on watching Action Man on the laptop, which afforded the menfolk enough time for a cheeky Magners ......

Next morning saw us put the boys to work clearing the windows of the fleet .....
before heading off to meet the customers at Dover.

Toby had made a tick list of all the fruit and vegetables we had to eat (I'm sure Maddie was behind that) so we started off with a big bowl of fruit on the boat, as I know full well that boys on roadtrips without women tend to overlook such things.

And so to the Ring - with surprisingly little drama and lots of fun!

We did a couple of laps with customers on Saturday evening after a stern briefing at PF, and both Toby and Ted looked good in their skid lids;

And we then went up to Jorgs for a meal. I'd elected to order early for Toby and I, as I could not see him lasting past 9 and so it was. I must also say, that having left my brother with a couple of customers up at the circuit I was a little surprised to see them turn up at the restaurant without him. As I was a little stuck I had to send Andrew (agtlaw) out in a search and rescue capacity. Apparently Andrew discovered Jody in his t-shirt cuddling up to the ticket machine for warmth!

Great to see Karl, Jude, Ian, Bren, Ross and all the usual suspects in the bar.

More DVD's back in the Blaue Ecke before falling to sleep.

Early start on Sunday, Toby isn't usually at his best in the mornings but he was in great spirits, and he and Ted were both really looking forward to the day. Toby spent the day either lapping with me;

Or Adam and Ted;

A couple of customers had hired Alfa's off RSR and were thoroughly enjoying themselves, but both Adam and myself really wanted to get the keys to the perfectly good road cars they'd driven over in - a 996 Carerra and a DB9 Vantage ..... nice..... Was offered, and took a drive in a RB320 - very impressive car, very impressive ......

Pizza at Christina's for lunch before hightailing it back to the Taxi office for a lap with Sabine! Now, I get to drive all sorts of interesting cars at various speeds around the place, and to be honest I wasn't expecting to be too 'wowed out' by the experience. Sabine was a good crack though, we were laughing and joking with her all the way around, and I do admire the way she drifts the old barge! Also, one of the lads on my trip was getting married the following week, so a T-Shirt was duly signed by her, which was a nice touch. She's as much of a sport as you'd hope she would be - Thanks Sabine!

Midway through the afternoon Toby and I retired to the Blaue Ecke for some health food snacks;

Before getting back for more laps. Back in the car park the boys were having fun ....... (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9cYFZ7Y_1nQ)

then we retired back to the Blaue Ecke for a quick shower then back up to the PK.

Outside - a nice old car - Lagonda I think ...

And then a lovely meal. And the presentation of the signed T-Shirt to the stag. Again, considering how late it was, Toby was really well behaved. We did leave a little earlier than the rest of the team, but he was still in high spirits.

Monday morning saw us take a trip to the Sommer Rodelbahn past Altenahr, then a quick top speed run down to Cochem. Which was lovely. Elected to have a boat trip on the Mosel (still with all of the customers) with lunch included;

Andrew (agtlaw) and Toby relaxing on the Mosel;

Adam (Stevenson) and I.
nb. Adam is a founder member of the 750MC's Golf Gti Racing Championship Committee and is the current 8v Champion. If anyone from here is interested in getting involved in the series drop me a line

Most pleasant ...

Adam, Ted and Sam (son of the Stag!)

Hightailed it back to the circuit for 3pm opening, after dropping Toby and Ted off with Michaela first. I managed to do 3 laps back to back in the RB320 - first two as a passenger - but as I recovered back in on my lap I was pulled by a marshall and told I had been banned for the day. No explanation, just "thank you and goodbye"! I went to the office to enquire further, but after a chat with MrBean and a further visit with him to the office thay insisted I had overtaken someone through some roadworks and that was that. Despite feeling a little mortified about being accused of doing something I have never and never would do, I decided that it was better for everyone if I accepted the situation, that way, at least my guys could carry on driving. I took it for the team LOL! Spent the rest of the afternoon being chauffered round, including a great lap in the VR6 with Ian Howell :) . Recovered back to the Blaue Ecke to find Toby enjoying a nice healthy drink of chocolate.

Lovely meal in the restaurant there, the chef knocked up something for the kids and they really enjoyed the meals before another earlier night than the customers .... but not by much!

Up early Tues, travelled back in a 405 convoy with Uncle Adam, Toby and me in the Mi tailed by Uncle Jody in the Dturbo.

Big thanks to Michaela and the staff at the Blaue Ecke, they really helped make the boys feel part of the whole thing :)

All in - a cracking trip, great to have my son along and both he and Ted weren't as much of a hindrance as we'd feared. I believe Toby and I did a bit of bonding too, and for that alone I'm glad I took him. To anyone else contemplating including children/family in trips to the Ring I'd say do it if you want to - they do cope rather well :thumb:

Nice one mate, great to see Toby enjoying himself too... :thumb:

Like Floyd, I think I've got a bit longer to wait before I get boys weekends without inadvertent peeing and tears.

Tom is fine, I just get a bit emotional ;)
