Chris asked if we fancied going out for a day offroading in the Discovery. I asked if any other northloopers fancied joining us (http://z8.invisionfree.com/Northloop/index.php?showtopic=9493) and Matti tagged along.

Met in Selby, all jumped into the landrover then drove to Langdale. Arrived around lunchtime.

Checked in at the `reception`...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4368.jpg

It looks quite clean doesn't it....
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4369.jpg

This modified `mini` came into the carpark, we saw it again later in the day..

Our route was supposed to be 3.5 hours. We were given the map that had a list of waypoints, you drive around the course and use the marked boards to check your progress
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4382.jpg

We were following the `green` route
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4443.jpg

Our first excursion offroad.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4383.jpg

Whats this I spy ahead?
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4390.jpg

Ah, it will be the broken down mini blocking the track
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4395.jpg

Well, we cant hang around here all day..
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4399.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4412.jpg

Once the mini was moved off the track, we could continue on our way. Look at those axles move !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4424.jpg

Matti had a drive, ended up slightly off the track.

Cat asked if she could have a go.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4600.jpg

You need ground clearance for some of these roads...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4659.jpg

You mean its going to go here !!??
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_0070.jpg

Giving the axles a workout again
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4687.jpg

Although loose, this mudguard refused to come off, despite fouling the wheel on full compression.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4559.jpg

Doesnt look too steep does it? (The camera couldnt capture the gradient :( )
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4690.jpg

35%, yep, it was steep
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4691.jpg

The trees out of the window give a good idea of how steep it really was
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4692.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_0141.jpg

er, that looks deep
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4754.jpg

Lets go and check again shall we.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_0040.jpg

Using me as a depth gauge
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_0125.jpg

Soon tired of walking..

you sure its this way?
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4755.jpg

We ventured through the water above, it came above the bump strips on the doors and started filling the cabin around the gaps on the doors :o , suffice to say we kept moving !

Matty was having fun
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_0134.jpg

Thats a bit dirtier. Was worse, but the water washed a lot of it off.

The kids redeeming their treasure hunt for sweets.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4827.jpg

Lets go to Scarborough for a walk on the beach and something to eat. Wellies off.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4834.jpg

Mattie looking for something really really important. Not sure what, so we left him to it
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4837.jpg

The Pinders
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4847.jpg

Chris demonstrates his stone skimming ability.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4851.jpg

Catherine watches with amazement as it just plopped into the sea without a single bounce :loser:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4856.jpg

"Anyone hungry?"
"yeah !"
"I know a great place".. so Chris rings his dad, gets directions to fish bar and we set off on a trek through Scarborough.

Arrived at Wackers
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4865.jpg

It was CLOSED !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4866.jpg

We were all really happy after walking for so long to find it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4868.jpg

Back to the seafront and fish and chips from `winking willy's`
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4870.jpg

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Misc/DSC_4872.jpg

What a brilliant day out, we all had a great time :D

A huge thanks to Chris for inviting us in the first place and then taking us in his discovery :thumb:

Next time, we are going to hire some of their vehicles and go in convoy

great report Pinderman, some great pictures between the 2 camera's.

It was rather clean this morning when I woke up :(

The Disco's next time off-road is likely to be over in Germany.

Karl, would you volunteer to be a guide?

looks like you all had an excellent time. I would love to have a proper go at that one day. Only done a 1/2 hr Toyota experience on a freebee before. Going to try the course near the Ring, looks impressive.

Off-roading's good fun. Suzuki SJ course at the Ring is also epic, if not particularly challenging.

That looks great Nige, i remember my dad taking us to langdale in a rental fiat Tipo after his Mk 2 Golf gti was stolen from the garage forecourt, back when he was a policeman in Scarborough, he drove it like Ari vatenen, and by the end of 20 minutes up langdale tracks the electronic dash had stopped working

Pmsl at you testing the water depth, if only i'd been that forward thinking before plunging my holiday rental in and having the water touch the bottom of the windscreen

Proper use of a 4x4!

Wackers and Winking Willies? I'd have expected them in S(Oops I said the C word)horpe, not Scarborough.
