I`d been looking forward to this for months, the golf was ready and packed on Thursday night, Louise and I were setting off Friday morning, having lunch on the way then going to have a look at Cadwell on Friday afternoon to try and get some good viewing points for her on Saturday.

We left at 11:20 ;)

The drive was uneventful, had an interesting phone call on the way, but thats for another thread  Arrived in Louth 2 hours later and stopped for lunch in the Lord Tennyson, it was OK, nothing amazing, but plenty to eat and it was clean.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/f90b45fe.jpg

Drove to Cadwell and met Matti there, had a look round, it really does look an interesting circuit :thumb: Took a few photos of some bikes in action.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/0208c9f7.jpg

It was cold so we went to the guesthouse to check in.
It isnt a guest house as such, but a large detached house that the owners hire out, she moved into the utility room on a camp bed  They have 2 houses, the 2nd being used as an `overflow`

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/18067b01.jpg

As the weather was so nice and the forecast good, I took the opportunity to swap to my 888`s, with Mattis help
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/93badbe1.jpg

Most people arrived for 7:30, and nearly everyone had a longer journey than expected.. :( We stood around in the kitchen chatting before setting off.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/46dfa144.jpg

Chris Slator offered to drive us to the restaurant I`d booked in Louth, saved us walking or getting a Taxi. As Matti was not drinking, he was our taxi back :thumb:
We even used the dog area for a couple of <s>dogs</s> people
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/7bd39cc2.jpg

Arrived at the restaurant, an Indian I`d been recommended.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/9a39de48.jpg

We sat down, Chris & Chris ferried everyone to the restaurant, then when we`d all arrived, chris had to go back to the guesthouse.
We`d had a phone call from the owner saying "have you got someone in your party called `shak` "?
"yes, why"?
"well, you`ve left him here  "

I had been told they had 2 large tables they would put together, as it turned out we had 4 smaller ones, which fragmented the group a little, but we still had a fabulous time.

The waiter thought he was a bit of a character...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/f6c29b6c.jpg

It didnt help when Shak came to order.

Waiter "Starters please..."
us "this, that etc."
Shak " Onion Bhajis please"

W- "Main courses"
us " tikka, madras etc"
Shak " Onion Bhajis please"
W- "for your main course?!"
S- "no, starter "
W- "We`ve done starters "bhaji" !"
S- "ah..."

and so Shak became known as "Onion Bhaji" for everymore

During the main course, he brought a Bhaji out espcially for Shak
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/66859fb2.jpg

Shak was so embarassed, he was full but instead of leaving it and get abused, he hid it in a napkin and put in in his pocket !!

Nick took plenty of photos, here he is with Claire reviewing a particularly humorous one

You wouldnt believe Jim didnt want his photo taken would you.

The glasses weren`t big enough..
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/2183e538.jpg

We left about 11:15 and made it back to the guesthouse for an early(ish) night...
"andy, andy, where for art thou andy..."
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/a9f140a7.jpg

I woke at 04:50, as usual, I couldnt sleep the night before. :(
Had a shower, went downstairs and had a full english breakfast. The weather was not ideal...

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/494babc4.jpg

Arrived at Cadwell and all stood around moaning about the Weather. well, we are British :D
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/9a13d082.jpg

Nick tried to memorise where all the bits went in his car before it went out...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/f44c1fcf.jpg

Jims MX5 hadnt arrived, so Gary had to take the Fiest out for a lap after scrutineering
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/edb8bebb.jpg

The sun was trying to break through the clouds as we went for the briefing.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/f26e0389.jpg

The drivers briefing was pretty straightforward, then we did the compulsory sighting laps
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/87371d18.jpg

afterwards I registered my video camera and ended up with some nice wrist bands
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/f51294e3.jpg

The day was a bit of a stop-start affair with a few closures. I did 25 minutes by myself, then went out with the instructor fora few laps. It was very wet but I was gaining confidence on the 888`s, although they didnt get hot all day  . The instructor gave me some good feedback and I was really pleased with his comments about my driving after the laps :D

Afterwards, whilst letting the Golf cool, I went out with Nick for some laps in the Golf, its noisy, but boy, is it quick when he can get the power down ! It was mechanically reliable all day, just the driver letting the side down
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/3098f459.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/ec86892f.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/ad655135.jpg

I then took Nick out in my Golf, he noticed it now pulled much smoother than before and I saved a sideways moment on the exit of the hairpin by keeping it nailed in 2nd, I was pretty pleased that after my Bedford spins, I`d remembered and acted instinctively to catch and correct it :D
Louise took LOADS of photos, i`ll upload them later today :thumb:

Had lunch in the canteen, it was actually pretty good and gave us a chance for a chat. When the track wasnt closed, I was lapping, although I never got a lap with Karan, which after he passed me sideways several times was something I really wanted to do, that man can DRIVE a car :thumb: .

Met and talked to loads of Northloopers, every single one was cheerful and it was great to meet up with more members. Pye21`s 106 was going really well and I had some good laps following him. Ian and Stephs VR6 blew a coolant hose but after fixing it, the car continued to run throught the afternoon which was a relief for all concerned.
Jim was making the most of the damp conditions and when following him I saw him intentionally sideways exiting the hairpin every lap :thumb:

A lot of traffic on track, but most very well behaved, the track started drying after lunch and the corner speed increased !. I went out with Andrew, was really enjoying it and he was happy, after 45 minutes I decided I`d stop for a break

Floyd had driven up and as always, it was good to meet him and have a talk. He had some laps with me and said I was much smoother than at Bedford, so I was quite happy with that. Praise from floyd is a rare thing indeed :P

As I crossed the line for the last lap of the day, the Marshall waves the chequered flag as if I`d just won a race  ...

The afternoon finished and after fitting the road tyres, loading up the golf we went our seperate ways.

Matti, Chris, Ian, Steph, Andy, Helen, Louise and I called for a meal and watch footage from the day :thumb:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Cadwell/c3f1ce51.jpg

Had an uneventful drive home and then spent 2 hours looking at photos and videos from the fabulous day :thumb:

A superb trip made even better by meeting so many fellow northloopers :thumb:

Apologies if I didnt mention you in my report, I met so many people yesterday.

Cheers Nige - sorry I was holding you up with that sideways nonsense. thesha was sat next to me and will testify that we span at the hairpin the lap after you passed me... It's all on video, obviously!

My prayers for rain were answered which was fun, but I didn't get much set-up done in the morning. The afternoon was much more productive.

Thought I'd add some of my pics to this thread seeing as there are several other Cadwell threads already....

I'm still being trained by Lou on how to take a good pic of a car on a track so apologies if some of the cars look like they're not on the track

Excellent Nige - who was your instructor, was it Graham Glew? - Any thoughts on his tips?

Yes, it was. I was pleased with his tips, he wasnt patronising and let me try things after he made suggestions. His feedback was good and I`d use him again.

I`ve just watched the footage of the laps with him in, god, I was slow in the morning

His best tip was braking after Chris curve before gooseneck, instead of hugging the left of the track like most people seemed to do, he said to just aim for the cone and go straight, instead of the slight right curve of the track, I could brake much later than most people and when I showed Nick that, he agreed and started doing that too.

Saying that, I told Nick another tip, which let him enter the Mountain braking zone faster and he then said it was my fault he crashed as he wouldnt have been going as fast if I hadnt helped him

I think Nicks brakes were getting a tad hot through out the day

I do the straight braking bit before Goose neck too. I don't think I've nailed gooseneck though :(

Great report/pictures Nige, nice to meet you  . I didn't know you were from Mirfield! i lived there until i was 8, small world :thumb:

Thanks for the 45 mins (i made it more like 50mins!!  :D ) of pleasure you and the golf gave me. Still can't beleive how long we were out there B) :smack:

i can't beleive how planted the golf felt from the passenger seat. i've sat in loads of rally cars, tin top circuit cars and trackday specials but your golf suprised me with how balanced it seemed. The power to weight and brake balance seemed perfect. The most impressive memory i have was how progressive the rear looses traction, don't change a thing there buddy :thumb:

thanks once again, may be we'll meet up in the new year at the ring for a few :drink:

cheers andrew
