A Long report, but with LOADS of photos.

Journey with the company of Simon, Ian, Floyd and Nige

My first trip to the ring without the family, I was looking forward to this one for ifferent reasons to usual and Friday at work seemed to last for ever !. It was soon 6pm and a quick dash home, eat a sandwich, say farewell to my family and off I went.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip002Medium.jpg

It was raining a LOT and the traffic was pretty slow. A lorry had broken down on the inside lane and caused a long tailback.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip005Medium.jpg

Arrived at Ian howells, parked the Mazda and jumped into the Audi. It was still raining a lot, a car in front would not move out of the middle lane, I took a photo to show how bad the weather was and the flash went off, for some reason this caused the driver to move across into the middle lane quite quickly.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip007Medium.jpg

Arrived at Simons where we spent the night, had a beer, met dog his who was excited and barked a lot, quick chat and sleep at 11pm.

Woke at 11:35 as leavingeasy sent me a txt message, just to wake me up  Thats twice he`s done that now..

Alarm went off at 4:30am, made a quick coffee to help wake us up.

Drove to Floyds and he didnt look much more alert than we were
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip011Medium.jpg

Said he`d had 3 hours sleep due to restless children.

Good clear run down the M1 towards the tunnel

Floyd thought the film he`d seen recently would be an apt name for us too...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip020Medium.jpg

Arrived at Eurotunnel in good time and had a full English breakfast, my plate was spotless when I`d finished. :-D

How many northloopers does it take to affix a northloop.co.uk sticker??
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip023Medium.jpg

Tunnel journey was delayed due to earlier problems, so even though we were on time, the journey was later than expected.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip032Medium.jpg

Driving through Europe, Floyd tried to catch up on his missed sleep.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip034Medium.jpg

The driving standards of some outside lane hoggers annoyed Ian a little.

A quick pitstop halfway there for a sausage roll and a drink. 15 minutes later we were on our way.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip036Medium.jpg

The audi went well on the autobahn.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip044Medium.jpg

Stopped to collect the golf at Manfreds, whilst there I fitted the yellowstuff brake pads and replaced a rear wheel bearing. Simon and Floyd fitted a heatsheild to the Subaru to try and remove a brake fade problem he is having.Called for some fuel on the way to the apartments.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip046Medium.jpg

Arrived at the apartments to find Shergars bonnet open and several people offering their thoughts
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip051Medium.jpg

There had been some cock up with the apartments and Ian, Floyd, Simon and I ended up staying a room instead of the apartment.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip192Medium.jpg

It was time to go to the ring for me first lap of the weekend, unfortunately, everyone else had the same thought and the queue was backed up way past the ringhaus
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip052Medium.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip053Medium.jpg

It did give us time to look at lots of things as we queued though...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip054Medium.jpg

The reason for the traffic chaos became obvious, the cyclists had filled the carpark with benches so everyone entering had to either do a lap or try and turn around.

Did 1 lap with Floyd, as I was queuing I hear my name called and it was Stip, said a quick hello and went out for a lap with Floyd. It wasnt a quick lap, but a good exploratory one.
Came back, floyd jumped out to have a lap with Simon and I called Stip over for a PAX lap. I think he enjoyed it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/stip.jpg

The track was then closed for an accident so we parked up and went into the Grune Holle for some expensive water. Nick was there and was showing anyone in range his `wounds` from his `big off` at the rodelbahn...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip058Medium.jpg

It had been a long day so we wanted an early meal, decided to go to the chinese, rang to book a table for 9pm, thought it would be a good opportunity to see Karl in the comfy corner and share a beer. I thoguht I`d ring him to see if he was there. "Hi Karl, its Nige", "`ello nige", "we are going to the chinese for a meal and thought we`d call into the pub for a drink with you on our way" "f##cking hell Nige, I`m just walking home !!", "oh, sorry about that Karl.."

10 minutes later the phone range "right Nige and sat here waiting", "er, we arent ready yet karl, but we`ll be there soon".
Upon entering, we were greeted to this sight.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip060Medium.jpg

Had 3 beers with Karl who was in top form as usual and had a chat with Jorg, Karl called me Homo No 2 (after weeman being No 1) for not taking foxhole flat. Then told me several other corners I could take quicker too.. We humored him.

When he gets like that, you just smile and nod, the same way you do with a senile old person really.....
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip061Medium.jpg

Said our goodbyes and left Karl to wander off home. Arrived at the chinese to be greeted by the always smiling owner. He remembered Floyd and brought us `large beers` and floyd a `lady beer` :) Ordered some main courses and as the other guys wanted spicy meals, I ordered Duck for myself, which was beautiful.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip064Medium.jpg

When the guy came to collect the dishes, we said Floyds was a bit too hot for him, the owner explained that if you mixed it with some beanshoots, it cooled the spiciness down. Floyd said OK but made no move to try it for himself, so the guy did it for him, we were waiting for him to try and feed it to floyd, but unfortunately, he didnt try.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip066Medium.jpg

Being the good mates that we are, when floyd went to the toilet, we all did a runner and hid outside leaving him to pay the bill. When we explained what we were doing to the owner, he thought it hilarious and according to floyd, played his part well.

Drove past the Cheri bar, but saw nothing interesting so went to the PK to meet the rest of the guys.

Saw this sorry looking bunch sat outside. :D

Floyd and Weeman seemed to hit it off straight away. :gayfight:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip070Medium.jpg

Ian chatting with jon_r. I also had an enjoyable chat with Tom and Chris
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip071Medium.jpg

Went inside to say hello to the guys, it was very busy and very hot inside the PK. Gary couldnt stand the pace :D
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip072Medium.jpg

Came outside and after realising nick had left the steering wheel fitted, it took us all of 0.000001 sec to decide to move his car so he`d think it was nicked.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip074Medium.jpg

He had parked his car so that as he came out of the PK and looked down the hill, he could see it, we moved it so that it was not visible when he looked and parked it in front of the main entrance
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip076Medium.jpg

Weeman, Jon, Tom and Chris sat on the wall and waited..

"F#####g Hell, where is my car, F##k, F##K some bast#rd f#####g nicked it, F##K, F##K,F##K. Weeman, what the f##k have you done with my car!!!" Yep, Nicks reaction when he saw the car had gone. It was what we expected

Back to the apartment for an `early` night... Floyd said he was `ready` whatever that meant:blink:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip078Medium.jpg

We had a discussion about what time to get up and I said I`d get up first, have a shower, do a few bits on the Golf and then go to the track for 8am. Set my alarm for 6:45. I didnt mind getting up first, I always struggle to sleep at the ring anyway. Had a good sleep, alarm went off, I lept out of bed and turned it off as quickly as possible so as not to wake the others. Had a nice shower, dried myself off and glanced at my watch, it was 6am, I`d set my alarm an hour too early !! :shame: Ian called me a dickhead or something and I laid there for an hour waiting for the clock to get to 7am so I could get up without waking everyone else... whoops..

Arrived before the ring opened to a busy carpark ! I`d never seen it so busy at that time before.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip080Medium.jpg

Whilst waiting for it to open, I met rmac from Northloop and had a good chat with him.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip081Medium.jpg

As usual, set off for a steady sighting lap, arrived at Hohe Acht to find a biker off and then another at wipperman. The track closed before anyone had finished their first lap. Deciding that it would be closed for a while, we drove to the Bakery in Adenau for some breakfast. which consisted of chocolate croissant and a cup of coffee.

Gave Ian howell a Passenger lap and as we approached Weirseifen, the cars in front braked earlier than I expected, I slowed down and arrived to find a German civic across the track having locked up under braking and gone straight on into the barrier and bounced across the track. I parked just after them and ran back up the track with my yellow jacked to warn oncoming traffic. Ian phoned the office to inform them and I spent some time flagging down cars whilst waiting for the marshalls to arrive. It was my first time marshalling and its quite a daunting experience, my heart was racing as I ran back to flag down oncoming cars, aware that someone could come round at high speed and skid on the fluid. Standing at the side of the track waving people down gave me an understanding of why the marshalls sometimes get so annoyed when you pass them. Several cars went past FAR too quickly and even though they may have thought they were going slowly, they were still going far too fast and a couple skidded to a stop once they rounded the corner and saw the accident, even though I had been trying to warn them :jerk:

******I have removed the crashed car and driver from this photo.******
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip088Medium-1.jpg

Walking back to the car and a puma whose brakes were worse for wear passed !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip091Medium-1.jpg

Had several more laps then the track closed once again. We went to the sports bar in Adenau for sandwiches for lunch. After making 8 sandwiches, at 1:10pm, they ran out of bread !!!
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip121Medium.jpg

Gary and the boys arrived and we had a good chat for a while whislt we cooled down and had some coke`s http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/21.gif
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip127Medium.jpg

I did a lap and a half and had this porsche following me for the 1st half of the lap, I moved to let him pass up kesselchen and then followed him until the end. It was one of the best laps of the weekend, I was near enough to follow, but not so near that I made him nervous of me running into him. We gave each other the big thumbs up on the final straight :thumb:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip128Medium.jpg

Was giving Ian Howell a PAX lap when approaching Schwalbenschwanz we saw a cloud of smoke in front. I slowed down and as I turned into the left hander saw oil ALL over the outside of the track, the car in front had dropped its engine oil all over the track, it was extremely slippery and I quickly pulled over just before the mini karussel and ran back up the track on the inside, I wanted to try and warn any approaching cars, but the first car round, a UK while golf cabriolet came round, hit the oil and span, aiming towards me on the inside !! I locked his brakes, did a 180degree spin and I almost jumped over the barrier, however he somehow caught it and stopped short of the barrier looking very shaken up. I arrived at the corner and started flagging down cars whilst ringing the ring office to tell them of the oil spillage. A biker who was wearing a marshalls jacket stopped to help me flag cars down.

The traffic slowed down and eventually stopped as the track had been closed. The marshall car took a LONG time to arrive and start measuring the length of the oil spill. You can see the dark line of oil on this photo.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip102Medium.jpg

When the track was closed, Ian and I were stood chatting and his phone rang, it was gary who said to "stop jsut standing there and put some cement down !", he`d arrived at the mini karussel to take some photos and could see us stood on track.

Arrived back in the carpark and found the driver of the Golf, had a good talk about the usual rubbish and I thanked him for not knocking me over :D
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip109Medium.jpg

The carpark was VERY busy all day

Whilst giving Ian another PAX lap, this guy (john) followed me for quite a while, he was closing on the fast parts so I let him past, it turned out that wasnt the best thing to do...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip110Medium.jpg

As we approached the dip at PF2, I was pretty close and flat in 5th, just as I entered the dip, he BRAKED http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/yikes.gif I had to lift and brake whilst the car was unsettled, it was my hairest moment of the weekend by far. I dropped right back and pulled alongside to have a chat... His passenger was a guy i`d been chatting to earlier in the day he drove an RX8 and i`d introduced myself and had a good talk. John explained that he was happy to follow me and copy my lines, but when I indicated to let him past, he felt he should pass. I explained that in that instance, he could have indicated right, given me the thumbs up then I`d have known he was happy to follow.

I offered to take him for a PAX lap to show him my lines, but he preferred a lap in his car with me sat next to him
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip116Medium.jpg

The lap went well tried to give him pointers which I hope he can remember.I even managed to get a snap of steve Gill passing this crazy man with no helmet in this car !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip118Medium.jpg

Took johannes out for 2 laps as I`d been promising him them since Easter... then had the usual carpark banter with this lot...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip132Medium.jpg

Das Chin wanted a lap in my golf to see what the 2.0 was like compared to his tuned 1.8. I only have 8 more BHP but much more torque and could pull out of corners better than he could
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip134Medium.jpg

Final lap of the day was with Floyd as a passenger, followed das chin giving Ian a PAX lap in the jetta. It was by bnest lap of the weekend and I managed to keep pretty close to Nick, my only `moment` being when I turned in a little too late to ex-muhle and scrubbed off too much speed with a lot of tyre squeal. Apart from that both floyd and I agreed it was my smoothest, best lap of the weekend. Unfortunately, the GPS had locked so I didnt get a time, but upon returning to the carpark, I said that was enough. even though it was 6:40pm, I`d just had a brilliant lap and it seemed foolish to tempt fate, so I chose to end the weekend on a high.

Simon had been given a lap ticket and bravely let floyd drive his subaru for a lap, it was floyds first of the year and apart from hitting the limiter once and causing a high water temp alarm it was going well. Approaching PF2, he managed to get 2 wheels on the kerb and they lifted off the floor causing simon to look across and utter a stern "FLOYD !!"...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip135Medium.jpg

The track clsoed and it was opening just for a load of opels to do some sort of cruising lap.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip138Medium.jpg

A quick shower whilst Nick and Simon discussed simons handbag for the evening.

Floyd and `essex girl` frederique browsed the net

Simon had tomato soup for starter

Floyd had the obligatory steak-on-a-stone.

It became quite smoky with so many having the steak..

Bad Dragon and Ian had fun.

Steve gill looked super cool in his silk shirt. He is smiling as Ian howell has just given him the audi keys to drive us back with...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip171Medium.jpg

Steve told us there was some good news and bad news as he was drving us back, the good news was that he was sober and would drop us off at the apartment, the bad news was that he lost his glasses a while ago and the only driving glasses he had were sunglasses... on a dark night in Nurburg....
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip178Medium.jpg

After a good sleep, I got up and loaded the camping gear back into the golf then had a shower. We left the apartment just after 9:00am

Dropped off the Subaru and Golf at Manfreds.

For some reason, I decided to look for the Mazda keys and couldnt find them, spent the next 4 hours txting Jude to pop round to Ians flat to see if they were there, txting louise to see about getting a spare set to ians, then when we were queuing for the tunnel, I found them where i`d left them in my bag http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/shy.gif

Set off for the tunnel at 9:30 Floyd told me I couldnt post this picture of him eating the sausage covered in mayonaisse, so I wont.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip204Medium.jpg

Followed then passed this huge train of Skylines. The smell coming out of their exhaust was not pleasant, we think it may be the additives they use?
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip208Medium.jpg

The guy in the middle was sat pretty high, so after floyds prompting, Ian passed them and then washed his windscreen.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip218Medium.jpg

The journey was going well when we received a txt from Nick saying the brussles ring road was stationary !. We used this information to reroute further northwards and miss the traffic making good time to the tunnel. Thanks for the pre-warning nick.

Arrived to find that even though we were early, the delay at passport control meant we missed our train, so we bought a drink and sandwich.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip217Medium.jpg

Driving down the train, Ian helped create this shot
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip225Medium.jpg

Ian felt it time to share with us he was going to let the chinese leave his body. After 10 minutes he sheepishly exited the toilet having blocked it
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip229Medium.jpg

Asked a random traveller to take this group photo
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/july%20boys%20trip/julyboystrip227Medium.jpg

A good drive home to drop off simon and floyd, drive to Ians where I collected the Mazda and then home for a beer. It took me 12 hours from leaving the Golf to arriving home, which was excellent.

After adding all the costs for the weekend I found that I did 19 laps, spent around 220 which included fuel to Ians, then to Simons, fuel and tunnel, all food and beer, accomodation and petrol for 1.75 tanks in the Golf. :thumb:

I had a fantastic weekend and met loads of fellow Northloopers. I`m hoping to be able to do a similar trip again and the camaraderie made the trip a brilliant experience.

great report nige and thanks for the PX lap

after going out in your ABF and Jasons with the 9A then the 2 litre is just smoother than the 1.8 and you don't have to work the engine so hard.

namely 3rd out of wehrseifen and some more pull up Kesselchen. you crept away up there gradually only for me to catch up up at the right hander. all in the tyres though mate that is.

so no comment on the PX lap in the shetta then? ;-)

you missed that bit out!!

oh yeah I presented the trophy to Oakie for the best male bingo wings all weekend. now where is that photo??

I also had a great passenger lap in Nicks shetta :thumb: Was interesting to see how much grippier the tyres were in some corners compared to my parada`s. A couple of corners were much quicker than I`d have done, but he did need to work the gearbox more than me to keep the speed up.

Biggest difference was 3rd out of weirseifen and hohe acht where mine still keeps pulling.

Was a realy eye opening lap and I thoroughly enjoyed it :thumb:

Well if she explain all the jokes to me, maybe I can write here in dutch and she can translate everything to you guys.

But, there are several things very special and great to this Essex Girl;

1. She pays half of all our cost on the Ring.
Half a Year card
Half of all the spare parts
Half of all the fuel
and more
2. She helps me with repairing the car. getting her hands dirty
3. She provides me with all kind of analitical numbers to increase speed and quality.
4. She never complains about our very frequent visits to the Ring
5. She is the best co-pilot there is.
6. She is my girlfriend.
7. She is simply the best friend you can imagine.
