we took the A40 across to LLandovery for some fuel and late lunch
then headed onto the A4069 Black mountain pass. its just a normal A road until you hit the Cattle grid and then its like a scene out of the Alps. tight twisty roads going steep up hill, tight hairpins, sheep and other animals on the road so you have to have your wits about you!
amazing roads with twists, turns, cambers and just the best views ever.
time for some pics at one of the fave Evo stops:

back up the mountain pass to Llandovery to then take the A483 up to Llandindrod Wells for the overnight at the metropole hotel. that is a great road too with some really open roads with some brilliant sweeping bends to test the cars.
had a lovely overnight stay at the metropole, great food and a great host in Justin.
Saturday:
Justin agreed to come out to play in his Z4M couple and show us some of the local roads.
time for a team shot

Head out up some of the B roads to find one of the quiet MOD roads which was a giggle and you can see for miles. it had started to get a bit wet by that time which was a shame but still fun

headed over to the Elan Valley area for a coffee and bite to eat before heading up the side of the 3 dams.

headed up the windy road to Llanidroes then over towards the Devils Bridge. we then headed north up to Bala on the A4210 then A44 then A470 which had some great parts but then there is some traffic at times. we wanted to take some of the B roads but time and fuel were getting a bit low.
hit Bala then took then took the left onto the A4212 which is a great roads with great views. then the right onto the B4391 to Ffestiniog which is just an epic bit of road. tight, windy, ups and downs, see for miles and some great scenery. we were getting low on fuel so rather than do it a few times we headed up to Betsw-y-coed to get some fuel in the shell.
then took the A5 out to the evo triangle. it had been raining on the way up but sun had been out so roads were nice and dry by the time we got there. A543 is a great bit of road and really opens out to some stunning views and twisty roads. you instantly recognise it from the magazine pics and you tube footage. then took the B4501 down the other side of the triangle which is just an epic road. turned around and did it all again as the A5 on the 3rd bit of the triangle is not that great and busy at the weekends.

stopped at the Giler Arms for a beer and then back to Betws-Y-Coed to the Dragon hotel for the overnight. great food and good accommodation for the price so went well. bit of a lack off off road parking is the only negative but cars were fine there.
Sunday:
early rain so sleep in and then took the A5 out towards Snowdon area to do the Llanderis pass. come off on the A4086 at Capel Cruig and then head down some amazing roads past Snowdon and that whole area. followed the loop around and back onto the A5 and then home.
not many pics as I was driving so will update in due course.

A great area for sure, when we go there on the bikes we avoid those roads and stick to the tiny back roads (shite for you guys) Farther than the Alps methinks but you really need to get North of Fort William....per Peach's write up the other month. (No motorway tolls and only a half foreign language)

Looks great Nick, roads do look mint.

We had a run up Hartside on Sunday, the roads are similar to the ones you were on.

Really enjoyed this write up :-)
Went down some of these roads by accident one evening in an 18t truck (empty car carrier) you wouldn't believe how fast it went ;-) (neutral down all hill's to pass the limiter lol) pure pleasure!

I recognise those names from the Cerbera owners Yahoo community (before Pistonheads started!), last saw Phil Octave nearly 15 years ago.. glad he has still got the GT3RS. Some very nice cars there, I do still have a soft spot for Nobles.

Must sort out a similar road trip myself soon too, maybe a Northloop walesloop type trip? :thumb:

Looks lovely, I've only ever driven around there in a 1970s campervan so appreciated the scenery more than the roads

The darker coloured Noble in particular looks amazing :thumb:

yes BCA that is the old cerby crowd. Phil, fraser, Deano, Mark payne, Ian sears etc. they still talk about the cerb days fondly but don't miss the bills and unreliability.

it was a great trip and some really good roads

Trevor Wood popped over on Friday night for some dinner which was good to see him and talk about the roads, his new turbo and generally chew the phat.

very envious of living so close to so many great roads!

if you have not done it before then get over there as its a great thing to do and awesome roads.

Nice location Paulie.

Good to see you again Nick.

Happy to meet up with anyone who fancies a trip out.
