Iíve been converting a small French barn for a while now...well, since April 2003. Now Iím a man of leisure it should be something like in the next couple of years.

Iíve spent the last couple of weeks converting this lot into walls and floors...in 35c heat (unless I am on the first floor, then its 43-45c)

Mongo 1 is just finishing her year in France before returning to do her last year of her degree in Surrey. The last 6 mths have been spent in Paris. She loves it. So, I have to drive the 450+ miles to the tunnel and think...mmm, may as well stop for breakfast in Paris. I was given the choice of Versailles or Vincennes by Isabel and looking on the map, Vincennes is pretty close to my normal route home round the East of Paris. The usual uneventful drive up the autoroute on a quiet Sunday morning. (I have one of those little electronic thingummyjigs that activate the barriers at the toll areas and do a DD monthly, if you travel to France alot, they are really worthwhile.
As I approach Vincenne I start to see some nice old and new cars and as I suddenly come out of a forest (5 miles from central Paris !) I am at the Chateau of Vincenne and a small classic car show with the emphasis on American Cars.

Boring story time..(yeah, alright, like all the above) When I was about 9 or 10 we didnít have a car, lived in a cardboard box blah blah, so o0ne week a year my old man would hire a car for our annual trip to Bognor or Torquay. He came home one winters night and said Ď Delia, Iíve sorted the car, its a Porscheí As a kid with his Observers book of cars to hand and after the recent arrival of the 924 I was chuffed to bits. :rave:
Fantastic, we get a Porsche for a week. I obviously didnít go telling all my mates about, oh no.
So when the day came to collect it, I got the bus to town, Dad and I got two buses to Shipley to go and collect our holiday car from Staveley Garages Peugeot. (It hadnít dawned on me yet  )
THIS is what we had a for a week. A f##### 104. It wasnít a sporty model. It was the shittest one they did. I had a dire holiday. The worst of my life, simply because I battled my conscience for the whole week as to whether to lie to my mates and say the Porsche was awesome or whether to be honest and tell them my dad was a biff.

It was brilliant, all being used, not a trailer in site. The French have made some superb small sports cars over the years.
The big American muscle cars were utterly brilliant. A veritable cacophony of aural delight (just for you Rory, for the rest of us, ĎFeck me, they sounded aceí)
We then did have breakfast, :thumb: coffee and pastry and then I buggered off North to see what hassle awaited me at the tunnel....nothing as it happens. It had poured it down but also a heavy CRS presence had obviously temporarily sorted out recent issues.

Cracking cars Grommet :thumb:

When does M1 get back to Blighty, Dave? We are off to EuroDisney on the 18th so if she is about still & needs anything we could lob it out the window as we pass CDG

She finishes work there this week, then bums about for 2 weeks, we arrive on Sat 26th, watch le tour last day on the Sunday then drive her home on the Monday, she's sorted for stuff going out, it'll be the multibag shuffle that weekend that i aren't looking forward to. Girls are crap at minimalism. She's bound to have 4 or 5 pairs of socks/pants/skirts etc. What a waste.....
Thanks anyway mate :thumb:

No idea how I missed this thread first time round, but chapeau on the car-porn! :thumb:
How effing classy does a narrow-bodied AC look? The R5 Alpine Turbo is a bit naughty too.

Sorry, but I actually laughed out loud at that :rolf:

Looked a nice thing to stumble upon :thumb:

to think Fiat allowed this car to become the hideous creation of the 90's. Always loved the multipla, rarely seen anymore.

Interesting seeing how many of those cars are relatively newly registered. When I lived in France the classic car scene was dominated by those who were 75 years old and had owned their cars from new.

Apparently not in Paris where cars seem to be changing hands and being shown off- damn good to see! Either that or it's a bunch of expats registering their cars from abroad (which is what my dad did).

We didn't hear any Brits (Mon go would know even a 'fluent' Brit), all seemed pretty local to Paris.
