Friday 25th
Tavelled down to my brothers in Kent after work. Decided we were hungry and a Little Chef was calling :)

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0003.jpg

Arrived at my Brothers to be greeted by a nice cold beer. Not too late to bed as it was a long day ahead of us.

Saturady 26th

Up early for my Birthday to be greeted by my Niece and Nephew with cards and presents. I am not a morning bird

Had some breakfast then Steph arrived to travel over with us.

Car packed and off to the Eurotunnel.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0010.jpg

Met up with Louise, Mat & Cat there as Nigel had gone on ahead with the Golf.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0014.jpg

Also met up with a friend from work, John, and his wife Sarah in their Focus ST.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0017.jpg

Apart from being swabbed for explosives (hoping Steph had not been round any recently  ) and missing our crossing because of it, delayed for 30mins, all went well for our first trip on the tunnel.
I would highly recommend it if it wasn't so expensive, but as I had used the Tesco vouchers it was fine ;)

Not sure about their idea of parking close to the other cars, especially those with a tow bar....

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/DSC00194.jpg

Had a bit of fun once on the German Autobahn with John in his ST, pulling 150mph on the clock with three people and a boot full (not big or clever but fun :P ) Otherwise an uneventful trip to Germany.

Dropped John and Sarah at the Blaue Ecke, programmed their Sat Nav for the Ring then went to collect Stephs car from Manfreds and the Tent.

Went to the camp site to set up and met Nige, Paul & Gwen and Dave, Clare & Holly.

Started putting the tent up but it was getting close to opening time so I disappeared to meet John while Jude finished off putting the tent up for us.

The ques into the main car park were horrendous and it took nearly 35 mins to get on :o

John had parked up so I told him to meet me in the que and I would take them out straight away. So they jumped in as I pulled in off the roundabout and we went straight to the barriers and their first ever laps of the Ring

It was very busy but dry so we had a good steady sighting lap which I think they enjoyed. As it was still busy when we got back we drove round the car park and straight out to o a 2nd lap.

This time when we came in it was quieter and we got a space. John got his car and off we went for his first ever lap as a driver.
By the end of it he was hooked and a little weary from all the concentration following a long day.

They decided to head back as we were out to the chinese later to get ready.

On the way home an electrical storm hit which was very impressive and a little un-nerving, being in a tent for the next few days

Back at the campsite I found our tent had changed a little in my absence...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0037.jpg

Thanks to Catherine and Holly ;)

Got ready quickly and off to the Chinese in Adenau which Davetouring kindly booked a few days before on his trip :thumb:

more to follow shortly....

Nigel was taking it all very seriously in his choice...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0021.jpg

Dave was either not sure what he had just bitten into or was very tired from the days events....

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0028.jpg

Paul was feeling very laid back...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0033.jpg

Iain and Brian think about.... well I'm not sure really

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0022.jpg

John was pleased to survive his first laps, Helen was pleased to be back at the Ring again....

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0023.jpg

Sarah was still trying to work out exactly what she had ordered...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0025.jpg

Herr Teflon joined us for a beer, after being possessed by the Devil...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0035.jpg

Thanks to everyone that came along, it was a great way to celebrate my Birthday.

On the way home Steph and I drank the bottle of plum wine the restaurant gave me as a present.

Unfortunately the start of the Rock festival seemed to be getting under way so we had all sorts of songs blasting out till 6am, when they went to bed.

Sunday 27th

The day started off wet, we got up and I headed down to the track.

Saw Jethro Bovington's Evo M3 car, there for some more testing. Says that every time they try to get a good lap something breaks.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/DSC00195.jpg

Steph stayed to do a few jobs on his and Pauls car but Nige came down with me to get some laps in.

We stayed for a couple of hours then back for breakfast.

Jude came back with me after tea and toast.
Sarah was having a relaxing morning but John was up for a little follow my leader so we went out for a steady lap.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0059.jpg

The car was was getting busy as people were not keen to go out in the wet..

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0044.jpg

Spent some time with Iain in his 996 Carrera 4s which was a fabulous car.
Had some good laps with Iain building his confidence all the time.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0082.jpg

As the day went on the weather got better and the track dried out.

Steph let me take his Golf for a spin again. This is a cracking little car which is good fun. We had a great flying but steady lap and down the back straight he said to do a 2nd lap, I checked bet he said go for it.
Which I duly did.....

The lap was going great, flying past alllsorts as my confidence grew with the car until just after Brunchen 2 we had a blast of steam in the car. I eased off until Steph pointed out the water temp warning light flashing. Carefully easing it back to to the carpark down the back straight until the temp started to rise.
Pulled over and bonnet up to find the water pipe into the heater matrix had split.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/DSC00196.jpg

Luckily we managed to get the car off to the overflow car park.
Not sure what to do we decided to go and find Andy Carlise to see if he could help which he did. He helped Steph find some coolant tubing to fit and the car was repaired within minutes.

As Andy had been bored all afternoon I took him out for a lap in the Audi.

As we came out of the Karusell, took the right hander and up the hill the car in front suddenly locked up, I did the same as we saw people stopping and getting out of their cars to go over to a biker that had come off. Andy raced down the hill to start to slow the traffic. I at first made sure that someone contacted the office to get the appropriate actions carried out as the biker was not looking too good. I then got my flag and reflective jacket from the boot and replaced Andy to sort the traffic out. The track was closed and the guy was taken away to a hospital in Bonn, I believe.

I am not ashamed to say it affected me quite a bit!

more to follow...

After freshening up, ie clean T-shirt and a quick spray of lynx :D , we went to join Helen, Iain & Brian at the PK they had invited us to join them earlier. The Pinders and Paul & Gwen came along as well but there was not enough room :(

Sarah loved the Steak on a stone but Iain decided to make his own variant... Red wine steak on a stone :o

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0069.jpg

All had a good meal and loved going to the PK for the experience.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0066.jpg

Andy Carlise turned up with Johannes for a beer or four!!

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0070.jpg

Andy doesn't remember much of the night, particularly spilling his beer over Sarah and I or even leaving :gay:

More disruptions from the Rockers with music back at the camp site

Monday 28th

Up to a wet morning again :( but following a bit of a lay in :P

Track was very greasy but the Audi loved it so ended up doing alot more laps than I intended to ...

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0072.jpg

Spent more time with and John helping out.

Took John, Sarah and Steph to get a Sausage down in Adenau for lunch as Sarah really wanted some sausage, so went to Stephs fav place ;)

Spoke to Herr Teflon about a lap in the Audi. Took him, Steph and Jude out for the surreal lap. Before we got out of the barriers he was messing around playing with switches and going through my glovebox. He asked if I had some Sade, Smooth Operator but I put on 10cc I'm not in love from my ipod (don't ask).
After singing for a bit to it he found my specimen bottle for my well man's check at my new GP surgery (forgot to take it out on the Friday before we left)

Think he enjoyed the ride though :thumb:

We then went for a lap with me following him in his focus and John following in his focus but by T13 I went past as they were holding me up
It was only a 1.6 I think :P

Saw Martin (P1Doc) on the car park, had a chat then he kindly took me out in his Scoob, lovely car :thumb:
A nice steady lap with some interesting lines as we talked all the way round, lovely set up in the car and I would love a dry lap in the future.

In return I took him for a lap in the wet in the Audi which surprised him a little I think :D

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0074.jpg

John asked me to take Sarah out in his Focus ST as it was quiet for her to do a lap. Jude and Helen decided it would be good to have an all girl lap so Helen drove Iain's 911 and Jude asked me for the keys to the Audi :o

I eventually agreed and we all went out except John who was taking photos and didn'/t realise the marshal's wouldn't let him through to jump in with Jude

The lap went well and Jude loved being on her own without me sat next to her having sharp intakes of breath and stressing her out :P

That night Louise cooked a great cornbeef hash, washed down with Bitburger :thumb:

Steph took it easy... before partying with the neighbours

Tuesday 29th

Easy start to the day. Off to the Sports bar to have coffee and some internet surfing.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0091.jpg

Then we went to find the viewing point for the Karusell.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0127.jpg

After trying a few lanes we got close so the Quattro was put to the test again, this time in mud....

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0096.jpg

A short walk up through some trees and we found it.

Great viewing site.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0111.jpg

Stayed for a bit before returning to the track for the last session.

Sarah wanted more Steak so we went via the PK to book a table for later, met a couple who had just arrived in their new Blue Vxr Corsa. Chatted for a bit then wandered down to the track. Took the couple out for their first lap just to point out the key places to watch out for. Think they both enjoyed the lap ;)

Spoke to another guy with a 5 series that had also just arrived, Pete. Stopped him from strapping a great big sucker mount with a video camera on to the windscreen before going out :o
Offered a pax lap with his wife and sister, I think, which he accepted.

He loved it but the ladies looked a little green when they got out

Had a great lap in Nigels Golf, he has done remarkably well in the short time since Easter to get it going.

With it being dry, John offered me a lap driving his Focus ST, after careful consideration I agreed as long as Sarah came along.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0133.jpg

Nige went out first with John as a pax.

Had great fun in the Focus, its a cracking car, good power and handling, just needs the seat lowering a little. Thanks John :thumb:

Off to the PK for some food and SteveW joined us.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0139.jpg

Saw Bren, Dale and Andy a bit later, caught up with them.

Another noisy night back at camp...

Wednesday 30th

Up early to pack up the tents and drive to the Chunnel.
Left late and got caught up in two lots of traffic jams, Sat Nav reprogrammed and we avoided sitting in them but arrived late and missed our crossing.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nurburgring/May%2026th%20Trip/IMG_0148.jpg

We got the next one only to hit rush hour in the UK getting home.

All in all a Great Birthday Trip :thumb:

Many thanks to all those that made it a great weekend ;)

Sorry if I have left bits out or people, when I get my new camera it will be more accurate.
Thanks to Jude for the photos.....Again

The End,

Just like to add that I had another fabulous weekend not only some fantastic wet laps with Ian and his amazing diesel but my first ever solo lap which was so much less stressful without Ian, thanks for trusting me :affection:

Also, as always, a big part of the weekend was spent with friends old and new. Never seases to amaze me how lovely everyone is. Thanks to Ian, Nige ( can't believe what the Pinders can do in 6 weeks :D ), Iain and John for the laps.

Hopefully see a lot of you at the end of July.

Great report Ian. Shame about the weather, but looks like you made the most of it.
Trouble is, reading the reports always makes me want to go back again..........I must take this site off my favourites !
