I recently took a holiday in Portugal's Algarve, before I set off I decided to see if there was any motorsport going on in the area.

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, also known as Portimao Circuit. Built at a cost of around €200 million Euros, the circuit includes a karting track, technology park, five-star hotel, sports complex and apartments, it was completed in 2008. The circuit has been approved as Formula 1 Grand Prix venue, although some F1 testing has been carried out there, a commercial agreement has never been signed.

The meeting I went to was a round of the International GT Open (http://www.gtopen.net/)

I only became aware that the Transit ST existed a few weeks ago, then all of a sudden I chance upon a full grid of them!

Very impressive circuit, although I was disappointed that I couldn't walk round the full circuit

As you can see, not just a flat, boring modern circuit, I might drive down and do a track day next time...

The lack of spectators did have its advantages, we were able to stand on the pit wall until the 5 minute board was shown

An enjoyable day out was had, and in glorious sunshine, something I won't likely see again this year.

Enjoyed that - I think it's really sad when you see all those guys going along to race and pretty much nobody is there spectating.

Excellent! I was at Estoril a couple of months back and it was nothing compared to that! :thumb:

It would be far sadder if the stands were full and no-one was there to race... :to be added again:
Fair point though.

Not sure how I missed this until now,
superb compendium of gorgeous machinery.
Great work Alan, now that's my kind of holiday. :thumb:

Oh, and +1 on Dan's remarks, more totty welcome.

Mmmmm, van racing.

I'd love to do a bike weekend there, still on the list...
