Who the xxxx is Rita Rudner tour

It all started a couple of months ago when Gary organised the Bedford track day and then couldn’t attend. He gave the day to Nick and Nick being a gent wanted to re-pay the favour in some way. ‘’I will take you on one of my trips all expenses paid sometime’’ was his offer….. Gary replied with a ‘’yeah right, whatever’’. True to his word and 6 weeks later Nick had his roster and told Gary he had a trip to Vegas in under 2 weeks, did he fancy it? Gary checked with the Guvner who gave the all clear and it was on :thumb:

Monday night.
Gary had an early (ish) night as he had to be on the road at 5am to get to Nicks house for 7am. As is usual when looking forward to a trip he woke around 3am. All he could hear was howling wind and driving rain. If the Rover has one pet hate it’s that kind of weather :( Worrying about the weather Gary was up at 4am getting himself ready. By 5am he was on the road and on his way. The first problem occurred near Petersfield. On a quiet back road 2 cars passed flashing their light madly hmmmmmm. 30 seconds later and there was the Rovers worst nightmare, deep standing water :o . The car swam through almost stalling a couple of times. Gary kept it going and limped on. A mile later he had to stop at a red light and the car died :gay:
The next ten minutes was spent trying to get the old girl started, what the hell was he going to do? Luckily it started eventually and he limped across the lights and managed to make slow progress. As the electrics dried out the car felt better and Gary’s spirits raised. He pressed on through the horrendous weather and huge puddles thinking he had it sorted. With 300 yards to Nicks front door he found his next bath to swim through. He decided the bull at a gate approach was best and pelted through. Once again the car died. Gary was close to leaving it where it was and walking when it fired up and made the last few yards.

Ten minutes later the 2 of them were in Nicks Volvo on the way to the airport :thumb: . When they arrived Nick directed Gary to the Virgin check in and in he went. Luckily there was a spare isle seat meaning he wouldn’t have to use the dreaded jump seat.
Nick gave Gary a wave from his work station whilst Gary was waiting at the boarding gate

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/1.jpg

The flight over was a long and very boring affair. 10 ˝ hours in a cramped seat wasn’t Gary’s idea of heaven but hey at least it was taking him in the right direction :ph43r: Nick popped out of the driving seat to chat a couple of times. The hostess now knew who he was and made sure his wine glass was never empty ;)
Gary didn’t get any sleep on the plane so he was knackered when the plane finally landed. This was where his luck started to change. Carrying only hand luggage he was let off the plane first and hurried to immigration where he thought a huge queue and rubber gloves would be waiting :affection: :o ;) He was the only one there and went straight to the first desk.. 30 seconds later his visa was stamped he went straight through and out the airport exit. 3 minutes from plane to car park :P

Gary waited for the crew to get off the plane in the sunshine. 70 degrees was very pleasant. Once everyone was off they went to a very dodgey looking taxi bus. Nick gave Gary a knowing look and said ‘’You will be surprised’’

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/2.jpg

The inside was however a little different ;) The pimp machine was pretty well appointed.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/3.jpg

Gary had watched the girls grabbing bottles of water during the last few minutes of the flight, now he knew why. They were full of vodka which was passed around  :thumb:

Once at the hotel there was time for Nick to organise the transport for the evening. More of that to follow ;)

The view from the hotel window was non too shabby

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/4.jpg

Gear was dumped in the room and by 4pm local time (12pm UK time) they left the hotel to have a look at the Hard Rock hotel next door. Las Vegas casino’s are kind of large places, with shopping malls and eating places inside them, this was Gary’s first.
They decided to have a quick bet something they didn’t intend to do much off ;) . The cheapest table they could find was a 20 dollar minimum blackjack table :o 40 dollars was duly changed by each of them and they settled in. Within 10 minutes they both had over 100 dollars to their names and walked away. Another guy joined them in the game and within 3 hands had lost 1000 dollars. He got up, walked away looking non bothered and in search of a luckier table :o . Gary decided that would be his final bet during the trip.
The guys went to sit at the bar, have a beer or two and chew the cud. Nick played a little table poker and won a few more dollars.

The winnings were duly retrieved from the cashier, this was obviously not the norm ;) . The guys left feeling like the first people to have broken the bank of Hard Rock  :thumb:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/6.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/7.jpg

After a quick fat boy burger the guys bought beer and wine and retired to the hotel. 30 minutes later after a (separate ;) ) shower they wandered along to the designated Hosties room where everyone gathered to have a beer or two to wait for the evenings transport.
Half hour later it was down to reception to get the taxi. Nick had excelled himself with a stretch Hummer. He had requested pink or yellow one but they were both busy

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/8.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/9.jpg

Pretty much everyone including the 61 year old Falklands veteran Captain the other first officer and the 16 cabin crew jumped on board. The next hour was spent taking in the sights, drinking copious amounts of vodka and beer and stopping at the odd tourist attraction to take pictures, or go for a pee.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/10.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/11.jpg

The final stop was New York New York for a trip on the famous rollercoaster and visit to the piano bar. Everyone started to go their own way and Gary and Nick decided to go to Ceasars Palace and the busy ‘Pure’ bar / club. Once inside the guys went to the roof top bar to watch the world go by and the very strange inhabitants of the club. They were many and varied to say the least ;)
At 2am local time (10 am UK time) the guys called it a day and got a taxi back to the hotel. They were both very tired and very very drunk <_<

Wednesday
8am the guys were awake and feeling pretty ropey. Gary tried the make himself sick approach but despite his efforts nothing would come out, he obviously needed food. Nick on the other hand was ok, but then he did stop drinking at about 11pm. Mind you at $19.50 for a whisky and coke who could blame him :o

A breakfast was needed so at 9am the guys and Lee a strange soul, as he is a straight airline steward :o made their way to one of the biggest and poshest hotel in vegas the Wynn.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/13.jpg

The breakfast buffet has to be seen to be believed. At just under $20 you get a free run at the food. To give an idea of what’s there you can have every fruit you can think off, most kinds of shellfish, Chinese, traditional, chilli, cake TOFFEE APPLE :o and pretty much anything else that takes your fancy in some crazy surroundings

After breaky it was time for Nick to give Gary the guided tour of the strip.
This sign looked interesting ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/16.jpg

This was INSIDE the Venetian and on the third floor :o Yes it's a real canal, yes it's a real gondola, yes it's about 1/2 mile long stretch of water, yes that's St Marks square ;)

An exact 50% replica

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/19.jpg

What you can’t see from this picture is the enormity of these foundations. The orange fence around the top is about 7ft high for scale.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/IMG_5239.jpg

By 2pm the long previous day started to take its toll. The guys went back to the hotel for an hour’s kip. On waking they decided a big night out was not required. Nick was driving the following lunchtime so probably not a good idea anyway :o A few beers were consumed at the hotel bar while chatting about the night before. Then they wandered across the road to an all American diner and a big grease running down your hands burger. With all this healthy food around Gary was amazed why Americans are so large
Next was a taxi ride back down the strip to see the famous fountains at the Bellagio. Gary didn’t understand the big deal till he got there and watched. Every 15 minutes the fountains outside on the lake operate to music. It has to be seen to be appreciated.

Thursday
Mr Oak awoke with a massive erection. Gary wasn’t sure who he was talking to on the phone, but decided he would leave him to it and peruse the internet in reception for a while ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/34.jpg

The guys decided to go to the Stratosphere then take a stroll to downtown Vegas. The stroll was a little longer than they thought, although they did see some sights on the way

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/25.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/26.jpg
Gary thought perhaps this was who Nick was talking to on the phone earlier

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/27.jpg

From Downtown Vegas the scene of the original strip they returned to The Stratosphere. They encountered a nice chap out with his girlfriend on the way back.. As they passed he was heard to say ‘’You looking at my hoe mother xxxxxx, ‘’I’m talking to you’’ etc etc etc. They decided they were in one of the nicer neighbourhoods :o
Back at the Stratosphere they had to marvel at its sheer size. They decided to get the lift to the top and go on one of the rides. They chose the Big shot. That turned out to be a good choice. The other two were horrendous in Gary’s mind.

On the 108th floor there was one hell of a view of the strip.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/28.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/29.jpg
These guys had a better view as they twirled over the edge of the 110th floor :o :o

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/30.jpg

The other choice was worse. You sat in a car were raised in the air to 45 degrees from the floor and thrown forward. The car travelled out over the edge of the building and stopped abruptly with you peering down from 110 floors to the ground below. When you thought it couldn’t get any worse it appeared to break and lunge forward an extra 2ft :o . Most of the riders didn’t stop at the viewing point and went straight to the ride. Without knowing that extra 2ft lunge was going to happen would have given Gary a heart attack.

http://media.putfile.com/stratosphere-77

There choice was however a good one. An extra couple of floors up and you came to the big shot. The point on the top of the building is there for a reason. You are strapped into a seat and jettisoned up towards it at an alarming rate of knots. At the top the G’s hold you there for a split second before you lunge back down and start to bounce. Gary decided that was enough scary stuff for one day and that he would go back to easy stuff like being elected the next Pope ;)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/31.jpg

Back at the hotel there was just enough time to chat about the day with some of the others before boarding another pimp bus and heading for the airport. Here Gary’s luck ran out, the plane was totally full so he was given a jump seat ticket. Think small, think rigid, think hard, think uncomfortable and you have the jump seat (no rude comments please ;) ) There were however two saving graces.
1. The girls and guys made sure Gary got food from the first class section, had first choice of DVD’s and was plied with drink when required ;)
2. The second stroke of luck was that the jump seat was right next to the upper class luggage hold. After eyeing it up for a while Gary retired in there with a pillow and had a few hours kip

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/32.jpg

On landing Gary said his goodbyes to the girls and guys. They work very, very, very, hard and party even harder. A truly great bunch :thumb: :thumb:
Back in the car to Nicks house, a quick trip to UB’s to drop the Caterham off for a new clutch and it was time for Gary to wind his way home.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/las%20vegas/33.jpg

All that was left was for Gary to thank Nick for sorting the trip out for him. Although it was a real whistle stop tour, they crammed all the sights in with Nick going out of his way to make sure nothing was missed. Considering the beer that was drunk, the food that was eaten, the entertainment they had and the fun, it’s going to be hard to be beaten. All that for Ł200 :o :thumb:

Cheers Nick :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

The Big shot is a real adrenalin rush isn't it

The fountains are fantastic, could watch them for ages, and have.

Great report Gary- I remember certain parts slightly differently......

"Gary tried to puke"- nah Gary ran to the toilet clutching his mouth, tears streaming, dropping to his knees and clutching the toilet like a long lost love.

"the boys turned in about 2am very very drunk"- nah Gary turned in about 1:30am, Nick, Rich and Kat went and bought chinese food and pizza, crashed through the hotel door and shouted "SHHHHHHHH!!" really loudly so as not to wake a slumbering Kinghorn.

Part from that was a real quiet trip: reading the bible, curing the locals of their evil wrong doings and getting up early to stand on street corners and preach.

You are top company Gary- JoBurg at the end of the year then??

Mind you after that you could start to branch out more if you were still there......... A couple of the guys went skiing, which is only 2 hours drive away. The grand canyon and hoover dam are very close by. I'm sure there is plenty more which is near enough to tempt. ;)
