View Full Version : Northloop Night out in Birmingham 3rd March 07

04-03-2007, 08:23 PM
The Northloop night out in Birmingham began with Louise and me dropping off the kids with my parents for the weekend on Saturday lunchtime. We drove down to Ian Howells, the motorway was clear and we had a great run down. We were staying there Saturday night, Jude was going to drive us but unfortunately, she has been very poorly this week and wasnt in a fit state to go out, even though she had been looking forward to it for months :( .

When we arrived, we found Steph (theshsa) was already there, he was staying over at Ians too, his wife was on a leaving do and was unable to attend. To get into the mood, steph had a go on PGR3, round the Nordschleife of course

He crashed a few times  . Nige had a go and set a new lap record for Ian to try and beat over the coming months  .

We had a quick change and left around 4:15, driving through Birmingham to park was quite slow, it was the European athletics tournament and there were athletes walking round with their medals and flowers, in addition to the usual sights you see out in a big city on a Saturday !. How some of those young ladies didnt catch their death of cold, i`ll never know

Arrived at All Bar One at 5:30, we were the first to arrive. Ian had reserved a table and once the staff realised who we were, they ejected some unfortunate souls from our table :thumb:

Ian had a phone call from Paul & Gwen (Vectra 2.0t), It was very loud inside, so Ian went outside to hear better, there was a live band outside so he had to come back inside to hear Paul !. They were only a short distance away and we waiting until they arrived before ordering food, which was actually pretty nice !

Ian, Steph, Paul, Gwen, Louise & Nige.

Darren (Mr Teflon) rang to say he would be arriving at around 7:30, Dave (davetouring) and Simon were en-route and due to arrive around 8:00.

Had several beers with Paul and Gwen, it was great to meet some fellow Northloopers and they are going to try and meet up on Easter Saturday when they are over for the day. I was discussing with them that it was the first time I`d arranged to go out for a drink and meal with someone who I`d only ever spoken to via the computer,as it turned out, they were very nice people and not stalkers :D

We`d all had large portions for our main course, but Gwen only had cheese and saved herself for the mouthwatering dessert..
Paul & Gwen

Steph was giving me a lot of stick for putting the viper stripes on the golf, to try and deflect his scathing critisism, I casually mentioned Ian was fitting them too. Steph was not pleased...

Darren & Maddy arrived and were followed shortly afterwards by Dave & Simon.

By this time, Steph (who shall now be known as the Beer Monster) had made a new friend who wanted to sit on the spare stool next to him.

He joked it would cost him a fiver, and being the scotsman he is, Steph actually got the poor guy to pay 5 for the priveledge of sitting next to him (note the holding hands :hehegay: )

Whilst steph was getting friendly with his new friend, the Kangaroo he`d brough along was lonely and decided to sit with an unimpressed dave...

By now the beers were flowing and everyone was having a great time, talking about cars, the ring and anything else we could think of :thumb:

Dave, Simon (hiding), Ian, Paul, Nige,Darren & Steph.

Earlier in the day Paul had phoned Ian asking the dress code, Ian told him it was smart casual, but NO ring clothing, as Paul was wearing his ring T-Shirt, he had to go and buy a new shirt on the way to the meal..

Paul had been on the road most of the day and things caught up with him, so unfortunatley him & gwen had to leave. :(

Maddy & Louise were sat at the opposite end and one of the other patrons decided to try and chat Maddy up. Being the very tolerant person Maddy is, she didnt tell him to get lost and he pestered her for ages before finally getting the message..

Several beers later and everyone was having a great time.

Dave, Simon, Nige, Ian, Darren & Steph.

Darren had found a new favourite beer for the night, Adelweiss (sp?). It was too thick for most of us, but he was quite taken by it...

Maddy & Louise were getting on really well and by the end of the night, Maddy was quite keen on the idea of a ring trip (sorry Darren :o  )

Darren dissappeared and Louise found him under the table between Dave`s legs :o

I dont know what he was doing, but Dave seemed to approve :o :o

Near the end of the evening and talk moved onto the ring and driving, time passed pretty quickly ! We did mention the night out at Easter a few times and I think Dave is starting to consider the idea of a trip over too....

Nige & Steph at 11:45...

The bouncers came round at 12:30 and asked us to leave as it was closing time..

Dave & Simon. (he really is that tall :ph43r: )

A 50 minute drive back to Ians and both Steph & Louise fell asleep in the car. Steph making strange noises that Ian thought were a prelude to him throwing up in his car, as it turned out, he was fine and just snored all the way back

Sunday morning and Steph made us all Porridge

I`d just like to say thanks to ALL those who were there and thanks for making it a fabulous evening that both Louise and I thoroughly enjoyed :thumb: :affection:

My silk hankerchief had slipped from my pocket as I retrieved my pocket watch. I was merely picking it up off the floor under the table ...

Thanks for the photos Nigel, saved me taking my camera ;)

Really enoyed the night with everyone that made it, good fun evening like last time in London.

Hopefully now there has been two nights we can continue and get more people along as its a great way for people to meet up who spend all their time communicating through text

Hopefully Paul and Gwen will confirm that, yes we are all mad but friendly with it :D

Be good to get a third night sorted and get some more of the newer members and those that may not post as much as others ;)
