Couple of firsts:

First trackday at Knockhill.

First time towing with the BMW.

First time in the wet with 888's.

In summary, great day and a great track.

In full:

Half day at Knockhill through TrackScotland. 12-4pm open pit lane. 100.

Haven't got loads of pics as Jemma is shyte with a camera. Have some video which I will edit and upload later in the week.

Up early on Saturday morning, I loaded the fiesta onto the trailer I borrowed through the car club within the Station. 5 a day, bloody bargain!! Knockhill is about 40 miles from me. Registration and drivers briefing was at 1130 and 1145 respectively so having not been there before I set off at 0945, took me an hour towing from Leuchars at 50 mph so not too bad. I reakon it would probably take 45 mins tops without.

As above, it was the first time towing with the BMW. Although the Fiesta only weighs about 800kgs, the trailer was pretty heavy duty so I felt the load massively. I never used to notice any difference when towing with the Pajero, obviously. There and back without issues so happy with the BMW all the same so I'll use it again for Oulton in Feb :thumb:

Arrived at the circuit in good time and unloaded in Paddock 1. Before we arrived we felt like we were in the middle of the Cairngorns (you can actually see the forth road bridge though, so not quite). Point to note, it was bloody wet, very windy and damn sight colder up there than it was at home an hour earlier. My admin was spot on so I had my down jacket, Jemma didn't so I lost it to her. How the feck did that happen :fish:

Car unloaded and hangng around for the briefing.

Briefings over, out on track for 10 mins before the first red flag. Quick passenger swap whilst it was sorted and back out for another 15 mins.

During my second second session, an Escort Cosworth dropped it's oil from Seat Curves all the way to Carlubes before stopping :jerk: . It must have happened about half a lap before me as myself and a blue Zetec S came flying over the blind crest at Seat Curves and hit the slick, he was all over the place, luckily I saw it and managed to avoid. So another red flag  .

It took well over an hour to get the track cleaned and open again. Not ideal but hats off the to Knockhill crew, when i went back out there was no sign of any oil at all :thumb:

As a result it got very busy, I was down to about 15mph and in 1st

I came in for 2 mins and when I went back out it was a lot clearer ;)

Managed to stay out for the remaining hour or so, I did 4x 10-15 min sessions swapping passengers in between (my eldest, Josh, and lad from my work. Jem bottled it  ). During this time the weather went from dry but a damp circuit to absolute downpour. As the 888's got some heat into them they gripped quite well actually. Had a few lock ups and had to really feather the power in coming out of the hairpin to prevent wheelspin.

This thing was mental, drifted every corner when I was behind it. Jem said it sounded like an F1 car on the pit straight. Left me for dead.

Otherwise, a good mix of cars and the track ettiquete was spot on.

Looking forward to doing this circuit in the dry now. :veryhappy:

Got towed off covered in mud.

When the track re-opened it was one of the first in the queue to go back out, all washed and clean

This is my local track,I was going to go along to this Trackscotland day for a shakedown before I went to the ring, but decided that might be a bad idea.. just in case something went pop.

Heard about the spill from mr Steve Whitson, pictured here in his mx5's first outing :),

Its a fantastic track, very tough on cars though, I'm on my 3rd gearbox because of it! :D

Cheers,
Chris.

That was wet in fact very wet. Takes the fun out of it at knockhill as the secret is to take as much kerb as you can and more....

The cossie probably broke an oil cooler return or similar and would have been unaware. There often used to be stoppages. There are loads of quick motors up there. Evos and subarus etc and lots of 205, nova/corsa and of course xr2s but I suspect these are all being phased out.

I never really go anymore. Spent years racing at the place, know it inside out.
It's like big fish small pond syndrome.

It's interesting though as most of the people up there don't take the cars out of scotland :fish:

Oh and at one end of the paddock is the bar/greasy diner and at the other is a restaurant which is a lot quieter and more suitable... ;)
