View Full Version : Anglesey GP 30th August. Bank Hol Monday

02-09-2010, 10:08 AM
As is was Bank Holiday, we decided to make a trip of Anglesey. The forecast was nice so we left home after the F1 and had a clear 2.5hr drive to Anglesey.

When we arrived it was pretty windy, so we decided to pitch the tent in the lee of the X5..

10 Minutes later the inner part was pegged out and erected.

A short while later of the outer sheet was inplace and very securely pegged...

Unloaded everything into the tent, We`d taken enough to be able to cope with sub-zero temperatures (Blow up mattress, Sleeping bag, Pillow and Duvets ) http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/4673d037.gif

It was a lovely summers evening, the breeze was light and we decided to grab a beer and have a walk round the circuit.

I crashed at Rocket Hairpin http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/lol.gif

Not long ago, Matthew was shorter than Lou and Cat, he`s growing up quickly...

Its easy to see why you can brake so late into the hairpin when you actuall see the gradient close up.

Just because they could ;)

There were a lot of guys from the WIlliams Clio forum on their annual club trackday.

The Trackaction-Online guys were also there.

After our trackwalk, it was BBQ time.

We`d had a full sunday roast before leaving, so Burgers and sausages were enough. Well, that and a nice Dessert ;)

Had a chat to a biker who was somewhat worse for wear. He`d raced during the day, his 2nd meeting and had finished 3rd in 2 races, he was thrilled !

Watching 3 grown men who are so drunk they can hardly stand is funny. When they fall over, roll about laughing and can`t stand up is hilarious ! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/rotfl3.gif

As there had been a race meeting on during the day, the bar was open so we wandered over for a couple of drinks. I had a good chat to a few of the people in there who were doing the trackday in the morning.

Bedtime at 10:30pm, earplugs in and straight to sleep, I didn`t wake until 07:30am, thats the latest I can remember waking for a trackday :o The showerblock is open 24/7. Cars were misted over, it had been down to 6 degrees overnight, we never noticed with all the Duvets / Sleeping bags http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/4673d037.gif

The Paddock was pretty empty..

The shower are small but the water is HOT and refreshing.

The Openpitlane guys started to arrive, Colin, Mike, John & Jan arrived at about the same time.

Signed on and had a good chat to the Circuit Days staff, the Golf was ready to go so I had a relaxing start, cup of coffee and breakfast. Darren did the briefing as usual, Sticker supplied and affixed.

There were the usual sighting laps, I went out with Colin who`d never been before to try and give him some pointers. I then asked if he wanted to come with me for a few laps, he jumped in and off we went. As we left the hairpin, the car in front was very slow, they were all lining up as if they were still on a sighting lap, I put on my left indicator but he wouldn`t move. After a couple fo corners, Colin spotted the pace car at the front, it was the 3rd sighting lap session. DOH !!http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/doh.gif I came into the pits at the end of the lap (as did the Porsche and Exige behind me who obviously thought the same...) I went and found the car I`d been following later and apologised, explaining I thought it was the OPL, he laughed and said he`d guessed that...http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/lol.gif

The circuit opened for lapping and although the carpark looked full, there was almost no queuing in the pitlane, the traffic was very well behaved, mirrors were being used and the overtaking rule was being followed pretty well too. Louise had a wander and took a few photos.

Some Orange thing...

Andy, look at that backdrop http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/thumb.gif

Andy and I had some great laps at Croft. We were hoping to do the same here. I followed him for a while in the morning, then he tagged onto the back of me. The plan was to do it again in the afternoon when he was up to speed, but unfortunately it never happened.

This was going well

Rear engined. Hmmm.

I`d been following this for a couple of laps, they had a misfire and slowed right down and were discussing it. They didn`t realise I was sat behind them. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/whistle.gif

Mike says this is a Rochdale Olympic. It looked like it was about to roll over in most corners !

Dave was going really well, until the engine went :(

As was Steve

Andrew was having brake problems.

Phil in the Megasquirted MR2

Mike driving the GT3

Louise wondered why I hadn`t passed for a while, looking over towards the paddock she could see the Golf on axle stands.

The reason was pretty simple, I`d had a CV shear (again), the brake pedal had gone to the floor and I`d limped back to the pits ! http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/5e6424e5.gif

Fortunately I carry a spare CV and 35 minutes after jacking the car up, the replacement was fitted and I was driving back out to lap again. I still dont know what has caused 2 to shear in the same place. I wonder if its because I have to tighted it so much to stop the nut undoing itself ? I am looking at drilling / split-pinning the next one, so I don`t need to tighten the Bolt quite so much.

It was soon time for lunch, Bacon and Egg sandwiches.. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/happy_61.gif

Back out again and more lapping.

Teffers on the phone. Thats a novelty....

Mat helped Lou and Cat take the tent down. We`d made sure the pegs were well secured...

The Williams Clio guys were having a good time.

LEIGH-ANNE having instruction from Teffers

The traffic was pretty light, occasionally you`d meet other cars but on the whole it was perfect.

Libby was taking photos too

Had some great laps following Steve in the Silver M3, Jan in the GT3 and then Mark in the CSL

Following Mark

The paddock was pretty full.

Went out with John in the GT3 for a few smoothly driven laps, it even has Aircon !

After the chequered flag, I did my cooldown lap and waved to Mat. I try the chequered flag at the end of the day, well, it means I`ve won doesn`t it ?? http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/1a.gif http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/4ad30bf6.gif

It was then time to loadup the Golf, pack all the camping gear into it and return home. Had a good talk with people as the were leaving, everyone was saying what a great day they`d had.

The Bank Holiday traffic was heavy. The journey home was 4 hours.

Sorry for all the photos, but I wanted to try and convey what a great trackday this was, we all really enjoyed it.

The slow return journey still couldn`t dampen our mood after such a great weekend. Going over the day before and camping made it much more of a trip away than just a trackday, we`ll definately look to do that again next year, I know Cadwell also allow on-site camping so we may have a night there too. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/gifs/4673d037.gif

Angelsy (trac mon) is 371 miles from Dover. If you live by the ring it's possible to do it in one day as i live 40 miles from it and can do the ring in one drive. Bloody knackerd though, :thumb:

It was great with just us. Next time, I`d like to be there with a group of mates too, before a TD, few beers, good company and trackday the next morning ? Brilliant :veryhappy:

I shall look for a suitable day in 2011 and post this thread as a reminder :thumb:

The majority are as they came out of the camera. Must be a setting on that.. :fish: I agree, the blue is BLUE and the Green implausibly green. I shall look into the settings and find out why....

The one with the bmw and the 205 looks overly blue and green, if that's how it came out I would have the camera looked at

AH HA ! Found it. Picture Control had been set to Vibrant +. I remember doing it too, it was for some other photos that we wanted to highlight the colours, I`d forgotten to change it back.
