You are right, I will say that: "Your son is not capable to drive safely without a drivers license, let alone at the age of 16 and you are one lousy parent for allowing him to do so".
Oooh I think you caught a big-un, Floyd :fishing: :D

Fantastic report, definately somewhere to visit next year!

If you want to venture a little bit further afield, there are a couple of great museums at Speyer and Sinsheim.

Speyer has a genuine U boat and a russian equivalent of the space shuttle!

And I got my legal Texas License at 15. :fish:

Back to what this thread is actually about... that bunker looks awesome. A lot better than the ones I use in Kandahar.

Speyer is about 20mins from Hockenhein which is an hour away from Stuttgart should you wish to go to the Porsche Museum too. Fecking long day though.

That would be better, it would give you more time and a chance to go to the Mercedes museum/factory in Stuttgart too.

Next year I'm looking at doing a couple of fly-drive trips, this excursion has hire car written all over it

Good to hear you enjoyed it. Interesting isn`t it !

Phantasialand. Our annual trip to Phantasialand is something we still look forward to. We may know all the rides, but it is still an enjoyable day out. This year Bren was able to join us, he hadn`t been for several years. Ed (Crossie) also came, along with the Boulders and Andrew. The traffic approaching Phantasialand was pretty bad, a long queue on the motorway meant there would be quite a wait. Well, there would be a wait if I hadn`t been a typical BMW driver and driven to the front, then pushed in  . I was going to use the old `I`m a tourist and don`t know where I`m going` trick anyway, but just as we approached the front, we spotted Andrew and Cat in the MX5, near the front of the queue, so they kindly let us in. Well, it was either that or Andrew would have an X5 shaped dent in his wing :D

Once inside, we waited for Dave & Co, they had queued and had seen us when we drove passed them...

After some of the usual rides, we went on a train ride...

Too thrilled for words.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030435.jpg

It was THE worst ride I`ve ever been on in my life. dull, dull DULL! !

Had lunch, thankfully no wasps this year.

Erin tried (and failed) to look cool in my hat.

I think he`s saying he had ONE message...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030447.jpg

STOP biting your fingernails...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030449.jpg

Bruce, Xanthie and Harvey were also coming today. The plan was to test each other and meet up. We texted each other but never managed to meetup in the park..

The park was the busiest I`ve ever seen it. The queues were longer than usual and we didn`t get to go on as many rides as we`d like :(

We did make time for the log flume...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030453.jpg

Someone suggested it would be fun to all rock from side to side, together. We did that, then, when water started POURING over the side, we thought it wise to stop, before we filled the log with water

This tomfoolery meant we ended up getting wet.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030457.jpg

I have never been so close to tipping over on the log flume, we were all laughing when we came to the end. The bloke who wipes the seats down for the next people did a double take when he saw a few inches of water sloshing about in the bottom :rolf:

Quite wet indeed...
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030458.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030459.jpg

The proper train rollercoaster, it lasts ages and it enjoyable.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030462.jpg

Justine was NOT looking forward to this.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030464.jpg

Bren thought if he went at the front with Erin, it would keep her quiet. How naive he was :loser:

I think it might have been some photos from a few years ago of you lot at Phantasialand that made me queue up for the train ride. I quickly discovered how bloody slow it was and your poses making it look fast were sarcastic ones

/ Friday /
The early risers had breakfast in the sunshine
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030476.jpg

Xanthie and Cat played Badminton
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030479.jpg

Everyone sat around and chatted. Harvey was trying to drip something onto Bruces leg, I`m not sure if Xanthie is moving him away, or positioning him so the drips land on Bruce ;)
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030482.jpg

Karl had been having a couple of issues on the Golf, so I popped down and fitted a Catch tank. His engine is breathing a bit, so rather than it burn the oil and smoke, the catch tank stops the oil being recirculated through the engine. (Since August, it has collected about 1" of oil, which is nothing really)

Fitted
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030487.jpg

The ring opened after lunch for 5 hours, so cars were checked ready for some serious lappage
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030488.jpg

I had some great laps in the afternoon, unfortunately several closures meant I wasn`t able to take out everyone I wanted to (Sorry Mathias :( ). I took Rory out for a couple and it was good to discuss the `section of the week` videos whilst actually driving them :thumb: . I completed my last lap of the year (94th of this trip) and in the process I had passed my 1,000th lap. I`ve now done about 1,020 since 2005 and although I don`t get as nervous about them anymore, I still get a big buzz when going through those barriers :veryhappy:

As the Rad-Am-Ring guys were over, Jorg put on a meal in the Comfy Corner. I asked Cat to turn the flash OFF, so people didn`t get annoyed by all the photos, unfortunately it means several are slightly blurred

I was waiting until the end of the thread before commenting.

the Pinders are masterful campers who over the years have learned their craft very well. i shall not want as most probably the Pinders will have a spare.

We as in the Cassidy Clan did give you all very short notice of our arrival due to work constraint, whats 15min between friends. But as per the north loop style no sooner had we arrived we were lambasted by our fellow campers offering tea, vodka and help to sort out our abode for the week, i has been awake for 16hrs so the vodka might have been soda water.

The socialising was the best bit of the hols, many a good night was had.

Once again, they were riding 24 hours for Charity. Having been told about all the preparation they go through and seeing first hand how hard it is, I take my hat off the every single one of them. Lots of people say they`ll do it next time, but only these 8 actually did. VERY WELL DONE :thumb:

Back to the Campsite and Bruce had a tale to tell..

Andrew and Bruce had gone to get some firewood, Bruce was all ready, safety gear on and just about to start it when one of the campsite marshalls arrived. He was not happy at ALL  "You must come with me, NOW !!"

At the office, Bruce was told he would have to pay an 800 Euro fine for cutting down trees ! "But I wasn`t !" Bruce then explained that he wasn`t cutting trees down and they were already rotting on the floor ! "Herr Pinder.." was mentioned several times :shame: After arguing his case for some minutes, the owner said to Bruce "You talk too much...... " :rolf:

Eventually, suitable chastened, they returned to the pitch, without any wood...

Andrew telling us he just pointed at Bruce and said "it was HIM..."

It was soon lunchtime, we had a quick shower and said our goodbyes. No matter how long we stay or how many times we visit, we still wish we could stay another few days. :(

On the way home, we called at a garage just of the motorway that Alex had told me about. Diesel was CHEAP !

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/Nurburgring2010/P1030993Copy.jpg

That`s it. Another summer holiday report finished. We look back through these over the winter and they always make us remember what a brilliant time we have in Germany. Of course we go for the ring, but we have made good friends there, it doesn`t seem like a holiday at all.

Until next time.....

Loved it... every last slice... down to the crumbs... a superb report all-in! :thumb:

Btw Nige,
I reckon that if you submitted your last few 'Pinder Summer Ring Trip' reports to a publishing house, they'd probably reject on the basis that they don't see the commercial viability in publishing 3ft thick hardbacks! :D ;)

Inspired by Nige we went to the Nuclear bunker last weekend. It is really close to the ring and is a lovely drive to get there.

What can I say. Amazing place. Even though the tour was in German my 8 year old did his best to translate. You can get enough out of this to understand what the place is about. Read the newspaper clipping from the Australian Newspaper on the way in and it gives you a good feel of the place.

Well worth a day out and a must see if you are spending some time in the Eifel region! I live 2 hours drive from the bunker and if Nige had not posted this up would never had known about it. Bloody brilliant day out.
