The Generation game.

It all started 3 weeks ago when Emma and Gary took Gary’s Mum for a trip to the Moor Valley Country park. On the journey there Gary and Emma discussed their trip to the Ring for Christmas. Gary’s Mum joked by saying Gary never took her anywhere so he called her bluff and said ‘’Right, we are going to the ring in two week’s time’’. That was how it started.

FRIDAY

Two week’s and a lot of rushing round to get new passports sorted they were on their way. Gary finished work at Mid-day Friday, rushed home to collect Emma, Charley and Sylvia and they were off. The trip down to the tunnel was a quick and easy one. The Mondeo was loaded to the roof with enough gear for 3 women plus a huge box of R1 bike parts for Bren.

A 2.40pm crossing saw them hitting Brussels in the rush hour. Amazingly the traffic wasn’t too bad, it really seems to be hit and miss that city.

9pm saw them pulling up at the pub for a quick beer with Karl. Luckily Karl had only been drinking for 4 hours so he was sober as a judge  ;) The keys for Gary’s 205 collected they retired to their accommodation (cheers Steve Gill, Jochen and Tim).

SATURDAY

7.30am and Gary was up and about, as was everyone else. With 4 month old Charley on the scene it was impossible to do otherwise.

Gary left the house at 8.15am to get some fuel and air in his tyres then to the car park to see who was around. Amazingly he was the only person there. This was very odd as there was only ten minutes until opening time

At 8.55 another car turned up, a red and silver EVO. At 9am the EVO went out and Gary followed a couple of minutes behind. The EVO almost made it too T13 before he stopped so Gary had a clear wet track to himself. The morning was gorgeous, leaves on the track had yet to be disturbed by passing cars, nobody out watching, it was like a dream. Gary seriously considered stopping near Hohe Acht to take a picture but thought that might be taking things too far. Back in the car park nothing had changed, one more car had arrived. Gary went straight back out for his second lap. The same thing happened with Gary not seeing another car or person. It was starting to feel weird. Back in the car park 2 or 3 other cars had arrived, including Emma, Charley and Sylva in the Mondeo. If ever there was the opportunity for 3 generations of Kinghorn to have a safe lap of the Nurburgring this was it. The whole clan went round for a 50mph spectating lap. Amazingly they didn’t see another car or person again. Gary really wished he had gotten his mum to drive, a better opportunity would never present itself again.

The girls nipped to Adenau to have a look round the shops while Gary made the most of the quiet track. By now Karl had turned up as had Bren to collect his gear and Steve and Barbara who were making the most of the quiet damp track. Gary managed 9 or 10 laps seeing no more than 2 or 3 cars on any one lap. This gave Gary the ideal chance to work on his wet lines and learn the abilities of his car on a damp track.

At midday Gary called it a day and returned the car to Adenau. The girls picked him up and they took a trip to Cochem. As always it didn’t fail to impress, even more so with a Christmas market in full swing.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/Nurburgring%20Nov%202006/IMG_3695.jpg

Later in the afternoon they decided to take a drive to Burg Eltz. Gary and Emma had visited it before and decided to take Gary’s mum for a look see. Unfortunately they couldn’t find the car park despite having been there before and driving round for 45 minutes

Later they got back to the house and Gary texted Davetouring to see where he was. He was in the Pistenklause sheltering from a storm, so Gary took a drive out for a beer and a chat. Dave and his mate hadn’t seen Gary at the track earlier as they hadn’t gotten out of bed by then  They said they had been up till 6 in the morning. Whatever floats your boat fella’s :gayfight:

Off to La Fontana for a meal with Karl, Claire and the kids to celebrate Kim’s birthday. Charley was on top form screaming the place down. Luckily they were the only customers though  ;)

SUNDAY

A chilled out start to the day with a visit to the GP circuit. They also had chance to say hello to Johannes and Robert

Bren, Gary wants number 3 at Crimbo
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v501/tvr400/Nurburgring%20Nov%202006/IMG_3713.jpg

This was followed by a drive home the Eupen way. From Nurburg to Eupen they didn’t catch and be slowed by one single car or lorry. Another record. The 2.40 tunnel was caught once again and back home in Andover by 4.30pm.

A quick visit, 10 laps, reasonable weather and no delays, almost the perfect trip.

I did see you on Saturday evening Robert (around 4pm). You and your good lady were just leaving the track. One in the BMW one in the camper. I beeped my horn at you near the Zakspeed building. I was in the UK plated black Mondeo.

Hi,

thanks for the report, Gary, great pic of my backside

I've never been so much sideways on the Nordschleife as on this weekend :D It was so slippery in places that I could get the back out in 3rd gear at low revs.

On Sunday it was even better, it was almost dry from about 13.00, and though the car park was almost full, the track wasn't much more crowded than on Saturday, so I could do some fast-ish dry laps as well. Terrific end of the season :thumb:

Bye,
Johannes

It was a good fun weekend and a shame I wasn't around long enough to do more laps.

I think I saw you at Pflantzgarten on one of my laps ;)

I'm looking forward to my BMW being finished so I can join in with the RWD fun :thumb:

What suspension do you have on your car by the way?

It's the H&R ClubSport. Together with harder suspension bushings I strongly recommend it.

I already have the bushes, just looking for the right suspension. I was looking to buy H&R. This is the kit I was looking at but it isnt the Clubsport and doesnt appear to be as adjustable as the KW kit.

Gary
At that price that could be the ClubSport, or H&R isn't offering the CS in GB at all. You could maybe ask Marc (my mechanic) whether that is the CS or not.

Johannes

It isnt Clubsport Johannes. It might be worth me asking Marc how much he could get me a set for though. It might be easier for him to get it for me and me to collect it from him when i'm over there at Christmas.

I will send him an e-mail.

Thanks
Gary
