I didn't take too many pictures so apologies if it gets a bit wordy :shame:

Friday 9th October

The plan was to get down to Alex's (Hammerzeit) about 9ish and we would convoy to Dover as we were staying with his nan that night so it was a short trip to the ferry in the morning. I was running a bit late and there was a fair amount of fog about so I made it there a bit after 9, this was a good thing as Alex hadn't made it back from picking up his car for the trip. A few checks on the car and all was fairly sound bar the tps but the main thing was that there were no leaks whatsoever. Bags were packed and we made our way to Dover, his nans house is something else, like something out of Poirot. A cup of tea and a sandwich and it was off to bed.

Saturday 10th October

8am ferry out and met up with Mike and Chris who were joining us, the journey there was boring as ever and with torrential rain punctuating the journey we made it in to Adenau about 4pm, it's only my third trip but it feels very natural being there and I can't help but smile as we drive through town to the hotel.

This was my first time staying at Hotel an der Nordschleife but the position of it, and more importantly the view, was brilliant. As I always do when checking in I flick through the tv channels and this led me to fits of childish giggling :shame:

We headed up to the 'ring for evening TF and went out four up in Alex's new saxo chariot, the conditions were pretty wet and on the yoko a539's that came with the car it took a fair bit of concentration, I could feel the grip changes from the passanger seat and Alex did well for it to be an unflustered lap. With conditions worsening I didn't fancy driving one myself so we went back to the hotel.

A good curry at the Comfy Corner went down very well with a couple of beers, having bumped in to Shiyan at the hotel he was also in there, a rather drunk Karl then talked to/at him and his American friends. It's always nice to meet a few more NL'ers and this evening it was Shiyan, Karl, Claire, Hartyb and of course Jorg. A few more beers at the Blau Ecke followed then back for bed relatively early.

Sunday 11th October

The alarm went off about 7.30am and a glance out of the window showed that although it wasn't raining the track was also still a bit damp. A bit of breakfast was had to set us up for the morning and we made our way up the hill and to the car park. We managed to get in three laps each in the morning taking it in turns to pax with the other. With conditions still a little unpredictable we weren't going at any pace but it was still good fun, Alex knows his way around pretty well so it was good to have him in the passenger seat giving me the odd hint here and there. The fact he's a very nervous passenger round there and came out for laps with me was a good sign I thought.

Lunchtime arrived and we went to Brunnchen for a bit of viewing and bratwurst. Finally Mike and Chris got out of bed so we nipped down to the hotel again and managed to sneak in some more bratwurst mit pommes unt curry ketchup.

Chris went up to do a lap whilst me and Alex went to get some pictures just up from Brunnchen 2, some very nice stuff was going round and Alex managed to get some good shots and also fall over which amused me no end. The weather then took a turn for the worst and started raining so essentially that was the end of lapping for the day.

The evening was spent at the Comfy Corner for dinner once more with Alex attempting to eat his body weight in Schnitzel before heading to the Blau Ecke for beers, as it was Alex's birthday several beers were drunk and an assortment of pretty nasty shots. Eventually we were fairly smashed but not as bad as a group of Norwegians who were in bits, the suit of armour at the top of the stairs was being worn by them at some point in the evening.

Monday 12th October

With a whole day to kill before evening TF it was a lazy start, breakfast was had before packing the car ready to go. There was a trackday on during the day so myself and Alex hopped in his car to do a bit of offroading as we watched at AF. It was very wet and some went with caution others took every opportunity to hang the back end out to varying levels of success.

The rest of the day was spent watching at various bits of the track interspersed with some more bratwurst. There were some quite interesting cars there but my favourite was a beautiful Audi Quattro.

The afternoon had seen the track dry out so we nipped up for one last lap, I unloaded all my stuff in to Alex's car and went out. All was good until I got through the cones and bright sunlight appeared, I flicked the indicator on and had to go through the whole ballache of removing my harness to get my sunglasses out of the glovebox, as I eventually got moving I was held up by a couple of bmw's as seemingly every varient of m3 and 996/7 Porsches whipped past.

Once free of the slow bmw's I did the usual last lap syndrome, have fun, don't be a hero, don't crash, make sure you get round in one piece. Having actually retained a bit of knowledge of the track and remembering Alex's advice I had a very fun lap, much quicker than the wet ones with no incident and never outside my comfort zone, it seems that with every trip the comfort zone increases which bodes well for next year.

With the lap completed I loaded up again and we set off for Dunkirk, it was boring as usual but free from freak weather conditions and traffic so about all you can hope for. Back in the uk about 1am, home and in bed by about 3am.

A good trip if a little wet and further reinforces my need for more trips, more laps and hopefully a bit of sunshine next year. It also means that after 2 years and a lot of tweaking I will be selling the saxo later in the year to get something a touch more user friendly and with more power. It's done over 20k in my position including three 'ring trips and hasn't let me down once, it'll be sad to see it go but I do fancy a change and realistically having a track car as a daily driver isn't a lot of fun for most of the year.

So, for next year it will hopefully be

3-4 trips
New car
More laps
More knowledge
Maybe some instruction on how to drive properly
Continue to have fun there
Meet more of the NL'ers that frequent the place

It's always been a great trip, I don't often go back to places after having done them but there is so much more to visit and discover in the area aprt from the 'ring that I can see myself going back for quite some time.

You should have taken some pics of them as they couldnīt remember what they done that night...
But they paid the 300,00 Euro I need to charge for the damage they done without to complain...

The e30 wasn't carrying too much speed so it just did a little pirouette and nudged the armco about 15 feet away from where I took the picture.

There was some quite interesting stuff on the track day, a few other pics
