After a number of attempts to get over for this weekend I eventually arranged to meet up with Matti and his friend John to fly over for the weekend. I arrived at Matt's on Thursday evening and after a few beers i retired to bed for the 3:30am wake up the following morning. (no watch shot)

The flight ran smoothly and we all had a laugh at the Bruno'esque flight attendant

Upon arriving in Germany we picked up the most gutless car in the world and headed to Adenau, after a questionnable overtake (Matti ) we made it in one piece!

We ate some grub and went to spectate and Breidscheid (Some photos ... finally)

After a quick one in the CC we picked up some supplies and headed to Pinocchios

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124179713_664309713_3334966_6677852_n.jpg

We all had a chuckle at the questionable portrait of the little wooden guy

I ordered what turned out to be the biggest Calzone i ever did see

After a few more drinks at the CC myself and Matti headed along to Sonja's as Jorgs groupies and got into the festivities. Here i met Mike, Bruce and Helen for the first time along with being able to catch up with some old friends. The fire was pretty epic and attempted to set us alight a number of times

On Saturday whilst the rest of our party went to watch (read sleep through) the VLN i decided to take a trip up to the GP circuit and museum. I was pretty impressed with it all and look forward to seeing what else fills the many empty units.

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148124589713_664309713_3334982_3912935_n.jpg

The bone of contention?

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148124614713_664309713_3334983_4306133_n.jpg

Some big'ol caliper in the Brabham unit

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124639713_664309713_3334984_7869589_n.jpg

In the museum now and i enjoyed snooping around all the bits and pieces on display expecially the getrag part.

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124679713_664309713_3334985_4543109_n.jpg

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124744713_664309713_3334986_523296_n.jpg

A minor let down was one of the exhibits had broken but i quite enjoyed shifting a gearbox with the case cut away

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124774713_664309713_3334987_1742925_n.jpg

There was some rather nice race cars on display too

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148124809713_664309713_3334988_129165_n.jpg

The truck game looked like a lot of fun, but i'm not quite sure i see the point in trying to race them for real, different strokes for different folks, or so they say.

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148124849713_664309713_3334989_5627105_n.jpg

I thought my was a pain to climb in and out of??!

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124884713_664309713_3334990_4272787_n.jpg

The BMW F1 display was a puzzler, I wonder what will replace it come next season? The pit-stop show was also, very inconsiderably might i add all in German! ;)

http://photos-b.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124969713_664309713_3334993_3202453_n.jpg

I was quite impressed with how close you could get to the F1 cars on display, these were either very good replicas or the real things. The steering wheel was connected to the wheels and i was able to have a proper play with the flappy paddles and buttons on the wheel its self.

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148125044713_664309713_3334995_7830381_n.jpg

The exploded BMW car was pretty cool, again will this get replaced next season?

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148125084713_664309713_3334996_990539_n.jpg

Such a shame this wasn't open.. I guess just one of the many reasons to return early next year!

Wandering back to the car park i had a snoop around some of the units i quite liked this BMW, not too sure on the colour(s) but the wheels were "cold"

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148125219713_664309713_3335000_8022765_n.jpg

Outside sat a rather nice Merc, perhaps someone could fill in the Model blank?

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148125254713_664309713_3335002_6755280_n.jpg

Moving inside the Nissan unit got me as close as i had been to a new GTR V-Spec and also a real nice restored Z car. I'm really starting to appreciate older cars :karl:

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_148125294713_664309713_3335003_2390351_n.jpg

I also stood on the track!

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125324713_664309713_3335004_2870852_n.jpg

I then made my way back to Breidscheid to find the rest of the gang, on my way up i grabbed a few VLN photos

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125359713_664309713_3335005_500638_n.jpg

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125404713_664309713_3335007_5138053_n.jpg

I arrived to find both Matti and John fast asleep, the locals had also made themselves comfy for the day. As motorsport goes i don't think you can beat the VLN for spectating, relax in the woods with beers and a BBQ is definitely something on the to-do list!

:thumb: Excellent so far

We were wondering around the complex on saturday too and saw most of what you have posted so far, we left the museum for a rainy day though ;)

That nissan was cool i must admit.

We headed up to the track and i managed to jump in with Nige for a commentated lap, most of it went directly over my head but some stuck and i was able to take the knowledge gained into my afternoon at TF on Sunday.

Later that evening we ate Chis and Fips at the CC along with many of you all and i drank, drank and drank some more. Had a great night and many laughs! I left my camera back at the hotel for that one unfortunatley!

The next morning with a rather hazy head i made my way upto the track and had a pax from Karl followed by Ian. Both excellently driven, I hope one day my knowledge of the 'Ring is on par with these guys.

I took some photos around the car park to pass the time before collecting my hire car for the afteroon.

http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125504713_664309713_3335010_3502313_n.jpg

http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125699713_664309713_3335013_2931906_n.jpg

Matti and John had already collected their little swift and were really enjoying it, i had a lap with Matti which made me even more excited to collect mine. Matti knows the 'Ring really well also .. Jealous of all you vets!

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148125524713_664309713_3335011_6844479_n.jpg

12:45 came and i headed down to Breidschied for a bite to eat and to collect my weapon of choice:

http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_148124394713_664309713_3334971_4851548_n.jpg

I had decided that i would drive from rent4ring and straight onto the circuit, i did 2 laps one after the other and came back to the car park rather shaky. A couple of moments at Brunnchen and having to flag a Porsche 944 made me think twice about how i was driving.

http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_147924849713_664309713_3331892_4524019_n.jpg

I decided to leave it a short while before heading back out again, I asked matti and then john to come out with me, and after a little advice i was more confident with what i was doing. But still very wary of dropping down into Brunnchen so took that corner with a great deal of caution!

http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_147924914713_664309713_3331902_6142920_n.jpg

Unfortunatley there was gossip in the car park of a fatality out on track, a very long closure sort of confirmed this. During this time we just lazed around the car park chewing the fat and hoping for the track to open.

"Attention, Attention the track is now open" On that note everyone rushed to their cars, James jumped in with me and we headed out for a very exciting lap. Upon returning to the car park unsurprisingly the track was once again shut.

http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs211.snc1/7816_147924919713_664309713_3331903_5333033_n.jpg

Once the track opened up again Ian jumped in with me and we went out for a lap, the sun was low and i was having fun. Ian kept quiet mostly, probably sat there wondering what the hell i was doing. Passing through Wippermann (i think?) a GTR appeared as if from know where and startled me into making a mistake and hitting the grass and curb.

Ian gave me some much needed advice through brunnchenn and also Galgenkopf.

http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs231.snc1/7816_147924874713_664309713_3331896_1524755_n.jpg

Finally i headed out on my own for a nice lap with the sun going down, i returned to the car park for a chin wag before returning my swift. What a day!

The swift wasn't very powerfull, but what it lacked in power it made up for in grip and the ease in which it can be driven relativley quickly. I'd definatley rent a car from freddy and the guys at rent4ring again, i've never felt as welcomed by a company of their type before!

The weekend finished off with a steak on the stone at the pistenklaus with friends both new and old!

For a weekend which was pretty much thrown together very last minute it was absolutley fantastic, thanks to everyone that made me welcome and also for Matti and John for putting up with me and my "habits" over the weekend

Tim i love the pictures and how you have cropped them there awesome. How much is it to rent a swift as if my car isnt ready again im thinking about renting one as like you im still new to the track in a way :(

good report

I paid 199 for the afternoon and in 8 laps i used around 35 of 100 octane from the aral. Ohh i went over my mileage limit by 38kms @ 1 a km.

I would probably rent one for the day next time with a second person as it works out at the same price but you get a bit more mileage.

Relaxed lap after relaxed lap after relaxed lap will get you there. :thumb:

Try to go too fast too soon and you'll learn very little at great expense over a very long period of time. :(

Glad you had a triffic weekend and thanks for posting an innerestin' report. :D

If that was the 944 stuffed into the left armco just below the brow round Eiskurve, here's an amusing anecdote:

Bruce (Harty B.) had I were flagging etc. Gesa (my bilingual GF) chatted with the 944 driver; the conversation went something like this:

Gesa: What happed?

Mr944: It was my fourth lap on the trot and there was no grip -I think my tyres had gone off."

Gesa: So you exceeded the amount of grip available on the road . . .

Mr944: I guess so - strange thing is, exactly the same thing happened a year ago . . .

It makes you wonder . . .

By the way, Mr944 was absolutely AOK after his off :thumb: :thumb:

Yes ... i stopped asked the driver if he was ok and then jogged down the track to try and slow traffic down. Then Bruce arrived and let me get on my way.

There is no under estimating the stupidity of people right? I wonder if he'll learn his lesson this time.
