In a nutshell, feckin mega weekend........ :veryhappy:

The weekend started for us at 9am Friday. I had invited one of my work colleagues, Simon, along for the weekend as he was intrigued to know what all the fuss was about ;) .

After loading the car we left my drive and stopped approx 2 mins later for an ‘Anna’s’ massive continental breakfast and by 10am we were leaving Bergen and on the unrestricted autobahns heading south towards the ring.

My brother was also joining me for this trip in his Mk1 Focus RS and by the power of Northloop he was bringing Spencer along from Pheonix Nights, aka Anarky (sorry Ian, but we all decided at the Blau Ecke on Saturday evening that you are a double). By sheer luck, or was it my expert military planning, we met up at the Rohdelbahn at about 1300 and within 2 mins of each other.

After a quick 4 laps we were back on the road to Adenau, 30 mins later we were sat at Breidscheid scoffing on lunch. Once we had checked in with Michaela at the Blau Ecke we decided to pop down to Cochem but not before going via the Burgstube to say a quick hello to Martin  .

I love the views over Cochem, such a lovely town.

After a quick wander and ice cream we trundled on back to Nurburg and managed to catch the last bit of practice for the VLN at Pflanzgarten I. One of the BMW M1’s was out too, sent me all quivery again when it flew past….what a sound  .

Once this was finished we headed back to the Blau Ecke and hit the bar before heading down to Pinnochio’s for some quality scran then back to the Blau for more bevvies until closing time :drink: :drink: . At this point I must state that phil had done well, he had been up since 2am (UK time) and didn’t leave the bar until gone midnight ;) .

With a leisurely start and a bit of a Veltins hangover B) we headed on up to the GP circuit to watch the VLN.

We got to the paddock and both my brother and Simon were astounded by how much access and free reign we had in the pits, even right up to the start of the race. €12 well spent :thumb:

There was some interesting stuff in the paddock also....

Spencer had to be dragged away from this :D It was bloody lovely though

V12 Bi-turbo

Corvette i think :fish:

Some old git in his beetle :karl:

This looked nifty

This fiesta was about to have an engine change. Half an hour later it was driving around in the paddock ready to rock :o .

Back to the pit lane just in time for the cars to head to the grid, reminds me of Groub B rally spectators...

P2 i think but wait.....wheres the driver :fish:

...ahhh, here he is

Typical Ford, having to be pushed :D

I like this one...

Shortly after, the marshalls whistles started blowing shortly after so we headed up to the grandstand and watched the race start before going for a wander around the new complex......

  cue banter

Old skool DTM

More to come once i've uploaded some more images.........

I've just come home to watch it, can't view at work.

The best bit is the fact that me and Ian Pye didnt even know Anarky was filming until we got back to the car park.

I swear far too much :shame:

Here's the rear of that car, whatever it is.....(i think it was anarky that said it was a corvette  )

So, I suppose i should finish this report off then.....

After a wander around the complex we took a drive back into Adenau and went up to Brunchen and Werseiffen before heading on upto Quiddlebach Hohe/Flugplatz

it was good to see the GT40 go around for more than 4 laps...

I took loads more but I cant be arsed to upload them as it's taking an age.

After the race we headed towards the TF entrance to chance our luck at a quick lap. To be honest I was suprised to see it open and it was absolutely carnage :o .

Whilst we sat waiting around we bumped into Simon and Nige. By 1800 it was evident that it probably wasn’t going to open so we sacked it and headed back to Adenau, passing Dan and Mark on their way up. On arrival we met up with Ian Pye and his mucka whom were sat outside and by now well into their 4th beer :drink: . By now we were all on our chin straps so we decided to get a quick power nap. After 30 mins or so I thought sod it and went back down to bar where Michaela kindly bought us a beer……prost :drink: !

Mark and Dan turned up as did Mike Solo (good to put a face to the name) and we headed on down to the Comfy Corner for dinner. I must say the 7.30 min curry was lovely Jorg, many thanks. It took me a few minutes to clock on to why it was called a 7.30 min curry….very good. It did get a bit cheeky towards the end mind, Ian Howell did well with a 5 min curry but I would hate to have gone in the bathroom after him in the morning.

By 10pm I was truly shattered. The others wanted to sack it too and I could have stayed but, with visions of drinking copious amounts of beer until god knows when (and i would have done  ) with an 8am start for TF I threw in the Oakie card and went to bed…….

…..and I was so glad I did. After a decent nights kip we were up and in breakfast for 7.30, checked out and on our first lap by 0830. Between lap closures and pax laps (thanks to Ian Pye and Nige) I got 5 laps in (including the free redline lap). I think the best was the last one after learning about the white dots (Nige) and the funniest one was with Ian, Simon & Spencer paxing;

It was comical to say the least, watch the link and you shall see. Also, bare in mind that me and Ian had no idea he was filming.

Not suprisingly there was a track closure around 11 so we headed off for a subway at the GP complex then went off to Brunchen to do some viewing.

A couple of Northloopers through Brunchen

Porsche powered camper...

Don't normally take any of bikers but they looked cool with their knees down

You're not taking this serious are you dan....

We did one more lap at around 1330, this time though i used the white spots and my passenger said my lap was the smoothest of the day and quite possibly my quickest.

We went back into Adenau again, watched at Breidscheid for about 10 mins and by around 3pm I was knackered again and Phil had to leave to catch his ferry plus, I had a roast dinner on the table for 7pm so we headed on home.

Special thanks to:

Michaela for the hospitality and the beer

Nige and Ian Pye for the Pax laps

Jorg for some cracking food on Saturday

Simon (my work collegue) for managing to put up with all the petrolhead talk

Brilliant weekend was had by all and it was the highlight of conversation on Monday morning at tea and toast in the mess PLUS 1x work colleague hooked and a load more asking when my next trip is…………. ;)
