Time for our Summer 2009 trip. Intention is to update it if I get time through the holiday.

We leave Thursday as soon as I finish work, so the Golf needed to be packed and loaded yesterday as I am working Wed & Thu.

1 sheet of 18mm plywood....
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0255800x600.jpg

Some tyres and a 2 drawer filing cabinet... I`m taking PLENTY of tyres, there are another 2 in the Golf..

Cabinet (DIY tool chest) is FULL of tools, spares and camping stuff.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0259800x600.jpg

Even taking a couple of Bikes for Mat & Cat this summer :thumb: (No Mat doesn`t have a hunched back ! )
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0261800x600.jpg

The X5 is fully loaded too, we hooked everything up and went for a test drive, all secure so trailer reversed into garage, we`ll simply hook up the X5 to it tomorrow and we can be on our way. I can`t wait !!! :D

Is there anything left in your house after you've finished packing????

I'm planning to come out and visit you all at some point...it's likely to be around the 17th Aug for a week/10 days....I'm just trying to co-ordinate plans with my friend Katharine who's travelling round Europe in a campervan for a month

I'll keep you posted....

Bon voyage...have a safe trip

You raise an interesting point. Would you, in my shoes, wait until I get back and post a report then ??

Or, live in the view that its unlikely the local scum read Northloop and those who do don`t know where I live anyway ? :fish:

Obviously, I`m doing the latter...

There is no point breaking in as there is nothing left... Except the kitchen sink... That is what the plywood is for :D
Not sure you have enough stuff with you mate :P

Ps I know what the wood is for ;)

Looking forward to keeping up this thread Nige.

I presume the ply wood is for making a biodegradable and motorbike friendly (after copious sanding) aero package for the golf, it's the only obvious answer.

Quick update.

Arrived without issue, X5 is awesome for towing.

Campsite is great, but too far away really. Met loads of Northloopers at the CC last night :thumb:

Golf has been behaving, done 20+ laps so far, lots of stoppages, but thats to be expected on a weekend. Had a small issue when I thought the front wheel bearing had failed, but it was the driveshaft nut that had loosened AGAIN

Anyway, gotta dash, lovely day, nice track awaits.

Those nuts are one-time use, Nige. You can stick 'em in a vice to make them off-circular, which is a good bodge to keep them on, or replace them. Alternatively, a piece of scaffold pole on a breaker bar :thumb:

We popped down yesterday for a few laps, saw nige out on track as well as in and around the car park before thinning out about 1830ish.

Was quite a few closures yesterday from what i saw, the last happening about 5 mins after my final lap. An S2000 apparantly dropped his oil at Brunchen and a biker went off in the spill. The missus watched the whole thing.

Nige,

My mate who owns the other half of our Mk2 has just told me that VR6 driveshaft nuts have a nylon section, so they stay tight more reliably. We've got them fitted now although I've not seen them yet...

Just got back from another awesome weekend, met up with nige and lots of other northloopers, lizard, craig cwt, cross?e the one with the red 106. Lots of fun on 2 and 4 wheels, took a few out for pax laps and had a fun lap leading and then following nige 4 up in the gt with plenty of sparks and kerbs ill try and find some pics. Also had a pax lap in a lotus 2/11 with mark but he hasnt done many laps but was still fun doing about 8.40s those cars are awesome and will be fantastic in experienced hands.
Called at spa yesterday on the way home there was a 2 day track day on but didnt have time to get any pax laps in but hopefully i fixed cross?e up with some laps in the 2/11 and noble, just wish id stayed an extra day.

I`m liking the 1 wheel pic :thumb: Need to try harder and get all 4 off the ground though (or lose some weight . )

The sheet of plywood... We find the `kitchen` area is often used and when it gets wet, the ground under the groundsheet becomes `boggy`, to fix this we`ve put down some plywood under the groundsheet to give it a wooden floor :)
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0285.jpg

Had some cracking laps first thing, followed a couple of CSL`s for the lap, they were only doing steady ones, but their pace started increasing the more I stuck with them ;)

Saturday and I had several laps with Alex (Lizard) and he did some with me. The track closed (again) so deciding to avoid the queues we parked up on the main straight.

We just chilled and chatted. Turned out the closure was 1 1/2 hours and we just talked the whole time  . As it turned out, the weekend was quite productive for Alex, there were a few UK people who crashed and he was able to sort them out with UK recovery at short notice.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0301.jpg

Thought the wheel bearing had failed, so drove at 15mph the 9 miles back to the campsite.

Went to the CC for something to eat, Ross was sat with all his friends whilst having his meal

Set about changing the wheel bearing and found it was just the Hub Nut that had loosened, so squashed the end a bit more and refitted (it has been fine so far)

An early night Sunday ready for Monday morning. alarm set for 7am and everything was packed away ready for moving to the campsite at Mullenbach where we will stay for the rest of our holiday. Arrived at the campsite and found someone else at the pitch we want (104). They were packing up after the Truck GP weekend, so we had a drive round and found Gurds and the other guys in the MK2`s and other cars that I`d taken for laps over the weekend. Gurds has a fab MK1, but was out the in Audi again. After a while `our` pitch was free so we parked up and started unloading.

The kids had a look round for chairs etc, they came back with a BBQ.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0333-1.jpg

Mat and Cat rode on the trailer and I took my kids around the campsite to get wood together.
We managed to aquire a few chairs but our target this year was wood, logs and pallets were the main goal. We didn`t do too bad.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0394.jpg

Nice Log pile
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0395.jpg

I even found a great stump to use as a splitting block.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0396.jpg

It took most of the day to move everything, but we were able to unpack everything. Camp Pinder MK2 is now ready !

Went to the ring Monday evening and after an absolutely glorious day, it started raining at 17:15 ! arrghhh. Did one lap in the wet but decided that was enough for the day. Met Juanjo and had a couple of laps with him, we had a far quicker lap than I`d have driven chasing a nice Ferrari. We then spent the rest of the evening setting up Racechrono on his PDA.

Tuesday morning, Matty and I went to Brens to help Andy replace the warped cylinder head with a replacement sourced from Steph and couriered over by Alex. The dissasembly went fine although we identified a couple of issues which may have contributed to the poor performance. The timing belt was a tooth out, but as we later found, that was an easy mistake to make...
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0348.jpg

The Pistons were all showing damage similar to mine and the head was also showing the same markings.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0342.jpg

Once I`d swapped the cams to the new head and we had refitted and re-torqued everything, Andy had finally finished tightening the exhaust manifold bolts, we were about to refit the cambelt when we spotted a problem. The camshaft was cracked around the keyway.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0361.jpg

This bit actually came off with no force.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0364.jpg

We reckon this contributed to the cambelt being a tooth out, there was play on the cam pully which meant a fixed datum could not be found. Bren is trying to source a replacement ABF Exhaust cam and I`ll go and fit it once it arrives.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0363.jpg

Whilst Mat and I were at Sliders, Lou & Cat spent a relexain day at the campsite, Lou did some washing and they went on a long bike ride around the campsite. They are getting into the Holiday spirit now.

The track opened on time and I went out for a lap with Mat in the Golf. We then took the X5 for its lap to earn a sticker. It wasn`t a quick lap at all, but we still passed 2 cars !! Lou said she felt sick in the back with the amount of body roll, the brakes are definately not up to the job for track driving and the pedal was getting pretty long by the end of the lap  Thats the last lap we aim to do in the X5 this summer. The rest of the evening was spent lapping, I managed 8, most were clear and I was able to take out Crossie, Matty, Heidi and Juanjo. The last 2 laps with Juanjo were pretty clear and although the tyres were getting a bit warm causing a few missed apex`s late in the lap, for the most part they were smooth and without incident.

Had a good chat with the Germans in the neighbouring tent over a few beers then called it a night.

Wednesday morning and I decided (with Mat`s help) to modify the large pallet into some more shelving for Lou.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0370.jpg

Split the pallet
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0372.jpg

Measured and cut then assembled.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0374.jpg

Moved into place.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0379.jpg
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0380.jpg

Once completed worktop later, we now have a solid worktop at the right height for working at in the kitchen :)

We reckon this contributed to the cambelt being a tooth out, there was play on the cam pully which meant a fixed datum could not be found. Bren is trying to source a replacement ABF Exhaust cam and I`ll go and fit it once it arrives.
KR cams will fit in quite nicely. We're running two KR exhaust cams (the one fitted to the inlet side has been chopped off to fit) in an ABF. It's making very good power.

Andy, I have 2 KR cams at home that I plan to fit in the future, for the meantime, Bren just wants it running again, so a normal ABF exhaust will be fine.

Called in to see Jochen and Sophias new house, lots of potential and what they have done already looks great. The kids had an enjoyable hour on the Wii. We then called into the Sports Bar for a Strawberry Milkshake. Dave (Welly_GT) had recommended them and we were all suitably impressed, will definately have those again !
Back at the campsite and I gave the Golf a quick wash (1 bucket only....) Swapped the tyres around and setup the video ready for the GP TF session.

Called for some fuel and saw Juanjo who has had lots of bad luck this trip :(

Had the normal `briefing` ie, don`t crash. The first lap was pretty busy as usual.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_9366.jpg

Unfortunately, the areas Lou were able to access meant limited photo opportunities.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_9395.jpg

We did have a great time though ! Some people say its boring on the GP, but I had a great time and would do it again if it was open for TF this summer. More room to have a play or try different things.

Back to the campsite for beer and evening meal, once again, we had an early night :loser: although we are all catching up on our sleep and will probably start having later nights in future. Had an awesome storm through the night, lightning and thunder. The Germans in the small tents had to sit it out in their cars to avoid it, we were fine in our tent :smug:

Thursday was a day for exploring. Drove around the track on the small roads and had a very leisurely day. X5 was fine, surprisingly so actually, even went up some pretty steep, muddy slopes. Where was this photo taken ?
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_9858.jpg

Popped in to see Ralph & Freddie at Rent4ring (they rent out the swifts), they were their usual cheerful selves and I had a good talk whilst Lou caught up on her emails etc.

Back to the campsite and split some logs.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0415.jpg

Ended up with a decent pile to be getting on with.

Dave Boulder arrived having dropped Chris Slator off @ Brens. Helped Dave put up his tent,
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0446.jpg

Went to do some lapping, did 8 trouble free laps, taking out various passengers again, took out Garry, Mike (HanSolo) and some other northloopers for a lap, which I think they enjoyed :thumb:

The bonnet wouldn`t stay closed on Juanjos Subaru
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0450.jpg

Back to the campsite for Bacon (fried Ham), sausage, beans, tomatoes and bread. Nice ! We then lit our first Fire of the summer.

Sat chatting around the fire until late.

Friday and Chris Slator arrived at 8am ! Bren was doing some instructing for the RSR Lotus trackday and dropped chris off on the way. We had a steady morning then went to do some viewing at Steilstreckencurve. There were lots of marshalls around and we were unable to get close to the track in other places :(
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_0143.jpg

Afterwards, we drove to the outside of Aremberg and took some more pics.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_0401.jpg

Had lunch at the Imbiss at Breidscheid. Chris told us of an old `lumberjack-trick-of-the-trade`...
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0534.jpg

A short drive to AF and we watched some more lapping.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/NLP_0467.jpg

Wondering what kept hitting me in the back, a quick turn around caught Chris is mid throw

http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_0538.jpg

Friday and it was perfect conditions for lapping so I used the opportunity to get in some great laps, taking out Rory, Andrew (Stace), his dad Chris, Tim, Matty and had another passener lap with Alex who has really improved this last week !.

The carpark was full of northloopers :thumb:

Came back to the campsite and Alex joined us for some food and a few beers. We stayed up chatting until 2am :thumb:

I had a good convoy lap with Nige and Matty this evening. My new tyres were all over the place, as were my lines, and the traffic did it's best to get in our way. I missed a few apices, and hit a few apices (literally, a couple of times) but we were pretty well matched for pace. I think the smiles in the queue to leave the circuit afterwards said it all. Try again tomorrow?

Back to the Campsite around 1am.

Saturday morning and the ring wasn`t open until 11, it was foggy and actually opened later, staying open for only an hour until it closed for the day. Caught this guy before the Karussel, sat behind him indicating to pass until the Gantry, did he move over? did he heck...
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1089Copy.jpg

My CV rumbling from the other day was back and appeared worse than ever ! Back to the campsite and front suspension off.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1093Copy.jpg

The replacement CV was fine, so it HAD to be the wheel bearing, although it was a new one and had minimal play.

As often happens, one of the hub retaining bolts was a bugger to remove, a bit of heat and it was soon off.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1099Copy.jpg

Didn`t have a vice or bearing press, so used a chisel to remove the old bearing. Once out, the balls initially appeared find, the race was undamaged, then when I looked closer, I found 2 balls were badly damaged, I reckon it wasa manufacturing fault as the others were fine.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1105Copy.jpg

New bearing carefully fitted using a bit of wood and a hammer. Lots of copperslip and the bearing was in the hub :thumb: Refitted and went for a drive, NO vibration. yaay.

Sunday morning and we went the Breidscheid until the ring opened. Met up with Mr Bean who is finally out of plaster and healing well. Anyone care to guess what colour Shirt Steve is hiding

Duncan arrived with bad news. Cracked brake disk :boom:
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1147Copy.jpg

These guys opened their bonnet as soon as they were in the carpark. They didn`t realise that NOBODY ELSE CARES !
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1154Copy.jpg

Kayja (sp?) Sonja`s daughter had been asking for a lap, so as it was quiet, we put her Recaro car seat into the Golf and I took her out for a steady lap.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1156Copy.jpg

She appeared to realy enjoy it too
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1159Copy.jpg

Sonja asked if I`d mind taking some other people out for a lap, no problem :thumb:
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1165Copy.jpg

I then took out Thorliefs youngest son....
"what sort of car is this?"
me "its a Golf"
"thats not a BMW is it ?"
me "No, a VW."
"I don`t like Golf`s, they are too slow..."
me "Don`t hold back, tell me what you REALLY think.."

Managed 17 laps in total, 7 back to back at the end of the day when the track was quiet and the car was fabulous :thumb:

I`d had issues with the Kumho`s vibrating badly at speed, they weren`t balanced and John @ RSR sorted them for me, took him a while as the worst needed over 100g of weights  However, they are spot on now, no vibration at all :D

Then the shots came out and Louise was happy again :drink:

Monday Morning and Duncan and I tried to source a replacement brake disk, but had no Joy, so it was game over for him :(

Monday afternoon and we went to the pool at Adenau. Got loads of photos, but I`ll not embarass anyone else with photos of them in their swimming gear.
http://i304.photobucket.com/albums/nn170/nurburgringphotos/Summer2009/IMG_1301Copy.jpg

Took Duncan out for a couple of passenger laps (he wasn`t too keen, it reminded him what he was missing...) He spotted a couple of bad habits I`d fallen into again, I used to do it when I started driving on track, stopped and had unknowingly started again (turning in too sharply into a corner), I didn`t realise I was doing it SO much, next time out I was much smoother. :thumb:

Had a great evening lapping, the car was simply brilliant, followed Adam for a while once he passed me up Kesselchen, couldn`t keep up with him (obviously), but kept him in sight for a fair while.
Went out by myself for the first time this trip :o By Breidscheid I knew it was a quick lap, then I met the marshall car at the crest after Eiscurve and followed it until they let me past by the crest at PF2. According to the datalog, I lost somewhere between 3 - 5 seconds in that section (depending on what lap you compare it to), yet still went over 4 seconds faster than I`ve ever done before. :D

Martin, Heidi, Andy, Adam, Dave (a guest), Duncan, Rachel, Annabelle, Lou, Mat, Cat and I went to La Lanterna for a meal, very nice it was too.

Steady day Tuesday, I called at Jorgs for a chat, spent the day around the campsite dodging the rain.

Lapping Tuesday evening, Matty spotted this fine outfit

Duncan sat in with Dave fora lap to try and offer some advice.

Wednesday 13th Aug and I had to return back to the UK for a few days. I am able to get a lot of time off in the summer, I work extra hours in the winter for colleagues who go skiing and they then work for me in the summer, but the weekend of the 15/16 was one where I couldn`t get cover. I drove the Golf to Dusseldorf Weeze, parked it there, flew back to Manchester then caught the train home, the last part was a nice walk from the station. Louise, Mat & Cat stayed in Germany..

Now sat in the Comfy Corner, expecting a sing-along and a great evening :thumb:
Chris P from ClubGTi and his wife were over that weekend and as it was DTM weekend, Lou reserved them a pitch near us. When they arrived, Mat & Cat helped put up the tent.

Mon 17th
I had been working nights over the weekend, so when I finished at 6am on Monday morning, I drove home, picked up my bag and walked to the station, caught the train to Manchester then found a seat in a quiet corner and promptly fell asleep for a few hours. Chris Slator caught the plane from Norwich to Manchester and then we both caught the plane to Dusseldorf weeze. Drove back to the campsite and Lou had prepared something for us to eat ! It was good to be back, I`d missed my wife and Kids.

Obviously, it was immediately `beer-O`clock`
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1830.jpg

Chris found a new friend.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1832.jpg

An early night, I was shattered and managed to stay up until just after 10..

Tues 18th
Ian (driveforward) had an issue with a broken CV, I offered to change the CV`s and front wheel bearings. He thought the clutch was failing so Chris and I were going to change that too, although I suggested to Ian it may be the pedal box and he sent me some details of what to check to see if that was the problem. Car collected from the Burgstube on my trailer
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1833.jpg

Seat out, lower dash removed.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1834.jpg

The pedal box had indeed split, you can JUST make out the tear in the metal in the highlighted area. It meand a pedal box change, instead of a clutch.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1849.jpg

Chris TRIED to sit in Ians seat, as those who have had a lap with him will know, the seats are built for small children and 9 stone drivers, suffice to say, Chris had NO chance of fitting

Removing the front suspension
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1855.jpg

One CV with the end sheared off..!! (Later diagnosis found that the driveshaft flange and OSF wheel bearing were worn, this allowed the wheel to wobble slightly putting extra strain on the CV thread)

Karin was staying the night at the campsite.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1948.jpg

I fitted some new Yellowstuff pads to Simons M3. The HOPE is that the bedding in compound on the pads will clear up the deposits on his disks from the Ferrodo DS2500`s he had on before. They were juddering badly so we had nothing to lose. The pads were easy to swap.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_1950.jpg

My new Shockproof gearbox oil had arrived, so we drained the old oil out.

I dropped Chris off at Frankfurt airport, we found a great road there, through some really twisty roads, the X5 wasn`t really the car most suitable for getting the best out of them though...

Saturday morning and an early start.
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_2100.jpg

Had some amazing laps on a quiet, dry track. Matty went back to Dave`s apartment for some breakfast whilst I lapped.

Northloopers in a surprisingly empty carpark. Considering the ring was Open Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 > 19:30, I was amazed how quiet it was !!!
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_2124.jpg

I took Isabelle out for a lap. She enjoyed it (I think ! )

Ian broke his seat mount and called at RSR for some new bits of steel, we drilled them back at the campsite.

Not only was Karl Lapping :o , but he was still having overheating issues. I took a hacksaw blade and cut out some of the solid plastic on his grille, it dropped the temps 10 degrees !
http://i655.photobucket.com/albums/uu279/MattyPinder/Summer2009/IMG_2152.jpg

Right, before everyone gets confused, WE ARE NOW BACK IN THE UK !

However, the report is still continuing, this update is from 25th Aug. :thumb:

Decided to go to Phantasialand, the weather was awful, one of the 3 days we had with rain for the entire holiday. Drove steadily on the motorway, aquaplaning in a 2ton X5 isn`t my idea of fun..
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2265Copy.jpg

Karl txt`d me to let me know there was a bad storm between Nurburg and phantasialand. Thoughtful of him, but by then, we were in the middle of it...

The rain started easing by the time we arrived, but some still took the precaution of wearing waterproofs, traffic light coloured in some cases..
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2269Copy.jpg

A few rides were still closed, but as we passed the Black Mamba, it opened, so we were a few of the first on, deciding it was an opportunity too good to miss, several of us queued for the front row !

After that, we went on Talocan (the long bench like ride that spins you all over the place, no pic of the ride, sorry). Anyway, Lou didn`t like it too much...

Jude, Hayley and Mat thought it was great !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2273Copy.jpg

We then wandered towards the water ride, I think the bag suits Andy

Hayley saw the downhill slope ahead.

We then wandered around going on several rides, queues were minimal so we were able to get on whatever we chose

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2312Copy.jpg

We went on a `scary` ride, the girls were watching closely.

All they saw were some plastic bones

and crappy `monsters`
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2327Copy.jpg

Blimey

There was a long queue to have your photo taken with this `dragon`. Erin ignored it and walked straight to the front, getting some angry looks from those who were still queuing.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2340Copy.jpg

Last ride of the day was the fear and force, a reasonable queue but great fun, Hayley screaming when she saw what was about to happen was hilarious..

As always, we had a fun day out, some only went on a few rides, others went on them all.

Drove back to the campsite, the X5 managed 126MPH on the GPS, then the A1 started going uphill towards the junction near dollendorf and the speed fell to 115 flat out :loser:

Unfortunately, Andy & Hayley had to leave when we returned, so they packed up whilst we went on track then said their goodbyes

Hayley didn`t know if she would like camping, but we think she is now converted ;)

Time to go :(

There is a downside to staying out there for so long and its having to say goodbye to friends when they return home, it was bad when the Grahams left, then Chris and was just as bad with Andy & Hayley..

Getting ahead of myself here. on MONDAY we went to the Schumacher Karting centre.

On the way, Cat showed Helen how to play `thumb wars`
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2189.jpg

We went, along with Ian & Jude, Andy & Hayley, Dave Boulder & Family and Daves mate & Family & his friend Simon and his family.

Mat was leading the laptimes until the very last lap when William got a faster lap in.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2228.jpg

Adults went next and that wasn`t competitive in the slightest

Afterwards, we went along to Subway for lunch. Blimey, sometimes people can have too many choices
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2242.jpg

Once lunch had settled we were back for a go on the outdoor track.

Kids first again and Matty was determined to be faster than William in this session. Unfortunately, his kart was very slow, he was about 8km/h slower down the straight than anyone else.
His frustration was so obvious, we could tell he was angry from just watching. NOW he knows to come in and get a different kart, but at the time he didn`t know that and he was gutted to not have a competetive kart.

Really enjoyable time, all (aprt from Mat) had great fun !! , Karting is such a laugh when you are with friends, not racing each otherat all.

Back to the Campsite and Andy & Ian asked if they could chop some firewood.

WAIT until I`ve moved my hand...

Wednesday was a bit of a steady day after the previous few. I had an issue where the steering wasn`t centered and the car was pulling to one side under braking, a bit of investigation revealed one of the strut bolts had moved slightly, changing the camber quite drastically and thus affecting the alignment

Used the trailer ramps to get the front off floor and level so I could sort it out
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2384Copy.jpg

Used the `string` method to setup alignment after the camber had been reset
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2391Copy.jpg

Whilst checking, I spotted a cracked front brake disk. I had changed the pads a few days before, normally, I would have changed the disks at the same time, but Andy Jebson had arrived with a cracked disk and had used my new spares to get him away. This meant I needed to order some from the local motor factors.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2408Copy-1.jpg

Ian had an issue where he could only select certain gears, the plastic clip that connects the cable to the shifter mechanism had borken. a long 6mm bolt, numerous washers and locknuts and it was better than ever !
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2409Copy-1.jpg

I had an issue where the towball on the X5 was higher than the mazda. This wasn`t an issue when going to UK trackdays as the Golf wasn`t as loaded, but travelling to Germany, we noticed the back of the trailer was very low. After discussion with Duncan, we spotted his trailer had a `spacer` between the hitch and trailer frame. I brought over some box section from the UK to space mine the same amount.

Before
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2405Copy.jpg

After
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2406Copy-1.jpg

much better, the trailer now sits horizontal when attached to the X5 :thumb: As we were going to Hockenheim tomorrow, it was a good time to put the car on the trailer after fitting the new disks ready for the drive.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2411Copy-2.jpg

Helen enjoyed the sunshine and sat reading her book
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2385Copy.jpg

I had changed the front pads on Simons car and was also raising the rear ride height (it was FAR too low) as it had been bottoming out in the compression and karussel.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b207/wh00sher/summer%202009/IMG_2395Copy.jpg

Couldn`t work out how to easily get to the adjusting nut. A quick `help` to John @RSR and he told me I needed to disconnect the bottom of the shocker, this allowed us to move the suspension and easily set the ride height :thumb:
