Fantastic weekend trip to the Ring this weekend with Nige, Simon, Floyd, Darren, Matti, Steve Gill, Chris Slator (+ mate Jamie), Dave (aka the fake Weeman) and Shak.

Not going to do the full trip report but will get some photos up and some descriptions and let the rest ad to it as so many people around with lots of stories.

Got picked up Saturday morning by Nige in the X5 with Floyd, Simon, and Darren.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/20062009625.jpg

Drove to Stanstead for our £20 Ryanair flights to Hahn.

Got lost finding the carpark.

Parked up in typical BMW fashion in the biggest spot going…

Bused to the terminal
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/20062009627.jpg

Met Matti an Steve G.

Had food.

Floyd got stopped by customs for being dodgy…

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/20062009628.jpg

Met the Famous Ross in the que
Others will expand on this!

Good flight over playing with TomTom’s

Collected our transport for the trip.

Drove to Nurburg.

Met up with the others at the Burstube, where we were staying.
Then off to the Rhoddlebarn as some people had never been :o

Usual carnage ensued

I ended up ramming in to shak at full speed as didn’t see he had stopped short of the finish (due to filming behind me)… he was catapulted completely out of the sledge thing. Luckily he was OK just a bit shaken up.

Back to Nurburg.

Teffers got the Beetle out for some laps.

Simon got the M3 out also.

Met Jamie and Richard. Richard had a new GT-R35.
He very kindly took me out for a lap…. Feck me that thing is a monster of a car… 8min 19secs in traffic and he is still getting used to it!!

Hopefully others will add to this as it goes along..

It was fecking awesome, I love that car… 8mins 11secs ain’t to shabby either
These cars are designed to do the Ring lap after lap!!
One day, maybe….

Back at the Burstube later on…

Bonnets were up, so Floyd was sniffing around being a Subaru driver

Ross was in the express Queue, when we arrived at the gate and saw him, Darren started taking photos of Ross and we started whispering between us "Is that HIM?", "yeah, I think it is !", "Are you sure its HIM ?" etc. people in the queues started whispering to each other and craning to get a better view to see who HE was

The expression on Ross`s face was priceless

Everyone pretty much went for Curry as the main meal.
Jorg does different strengths based on lap times.
A 10 min is mild a 5min is very hot… not sure if anyone has ever gone below that yet

Nige had a special one made for him that he will explain..

Simon had a 7min, so did Floyd, Shak and I had a 5min!

Off to the Karting centre…

On the way there it started raining!

When we arrived the Indoor circuit was busy so we had a look at the outside one.

We decided it would be great fun to go for the outer circuit as slicks and rain work really well

Nige tried to fit into the smallest suit going for a racing advantage..

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/DSCF3933.jpg

So did Floyd…

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/DSCF3934.jpg

Shak was talking though his usual about how good he was….

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a175/ianh26/Nige%2040th%20BD%20Ring%20trip/DSCF3937.jpg

We did two sessions of absolute madness, drifting everywhere and lets just say “Rubbing is Racing”

Shak got his own back from the day before by driving straight at me on the last corner on the last lap of the 2nd session, fairs fair I suppose…

Other incidents happened but too many for me to cover for now.

All in all in was fantastic fun and highly recommended :thumb:

I need to clean the next photo up but not got access to my usual software till Thursday night but will post anyway.

That photo may be making another appearance in other places in a different form soon

Dave (Weman) left us to go home as he had to be ready for work and we all came back to Nurburg.

We went down to the track an did some more laps with Darren, Simon etc

Chris had his Pug 306 there so Nige took it out some laps…..
Over to you Nige

Nige

Chris had been saying his 306 had somewhat wayward handling and as a result, he`d only done 3 laps for the week he`d been there :o

He gave me the keys and asked if I wanted to take it for a lap. After putting a cushion under me and a large one behind, I could finally reach the pedals and steering wheel (just !)

Drove nice and steady, was feeling for anything untoward through the corners but it felt fine, even through hatzenbach with quick direction changes, it was OK. Flugplatz was no problem and SX, where chris had the back end come round at 90mph, was fine for me.

I had a great run down to the SX crest, I was really surprised when I ran out of revs in 5th  . "Nige, this is a 6 speed box you know  " "ah... :shame:"

Foxhole was taken at between 90 and 100, still no issues, the left at the top had a tiny oversteer, but nothing of note, then I turned into the right hander approaching AF and it was as if someone had poured oil onto the back tyres, the back snapped round without any warning at all ! I had visions of ploughing into the armco on the inside, but got enough lock on and avoided that, I couldn`t wind the lock off quickly enough to stop it snapping back, partly my lack of skill and a teeny bit down to the fact I couldn`t reach the wheel properly :loser:

It was then facing the other was and we went over the kerd and onto the grass on the inside. I think we went over the kerb backwards ? We then span and ended up facing the right way, sliding on the wet grass towards the barrier, I eased off on the brakes and we stopped around 8` from the barrier. Feck me !.

Tried setting off again and the wet grass offered no grip at all, I had to reverse back down the slope and join near the right hand approach where I span in the first place

Once we`d stopped on the grass and not hit anything, Chris turned to me and said "thats what it does to me too !!" :o

Set off with Chris waving to the applauding crowd and me pipping the horn

The rest of the lap was driven with a bit less speed, but I`m still shocked by how quickly it went round on me.

We THINK the shockers are knackered, OK in normal use, but overheat rapidly on the track and just give up completely, the symptoms were the same for chris at SX, as I was driving slower (it wasn`t my car after all), it happened to me several corners later, but the symptoms were the same as he experienced. This could be complete cobblers... :D

Discussion on the spin / my lack of talent IN THIS THREAD PLEASE (http://z8.invisionfree.com/Northloop/index.php?showtopic=19550&hl=)

Great w/e :veryhappy:

Massive fun with Darren on the first session of karting - we both had good karts :veryhappy: Second session fun until Weeman T-boned me 'cos that's the only way he'd get past me :loser: Not sure Simon will forgive him either :argue:

Rohdlbahn (sp?) was muchos fun   Shak actually landed in a tree and we had to get a ladder to get him down.

Off roading - well, I don't think we'll be invited back there any time soon  We had to wash the cars as punishment :(

My curry - too hot. Probably eat only 20%. Shak consumed the rest and I'm still waiting for the offer of icecream... :fishing: CC hospitality brilliant as usual :thumb:

Fajitas at the Burgstube - :veryhappy: Many thanks to Heidi and Martin for the accomodation and looking after us B) :thumb:

Thanks to Darren for the laps in the GT3RS B)

Next morning we went to the Off Road Centre...

More carnage ensued which resulted in us getting a right bollocking by the owners and at first a ban from ever coming back

The last lot of occupants had to clean the cars down while we all got shouted at :shame:

After a bit of damage limitation we were told to be careful next time and to obey the rules.

I don't have any photos so I will rely on Shak and Darren to add some :thumb:

Ok hopefully someone will get some pics of the Off-roading up soon ;)

Almost forgot to say, on the way to the ORC Shank followed in his hire car and thought he was top dog by overtaking me down the 258. But he started to slow up as he didn't know where we were going
So we decided to follow him to the turning for the test centers and put our indicator on behind him to show him to turn in.... which he did!
I then cancelled the indicator and drove on down the 258 with the bus in fits of laughter as he drove away in the wrong direction

Shortly after he came flying up the road behind us as we took the real turn

We decided to get some food back in Nurburg aafter the ORC.

Went to the Race restaurant in Nurburg.

On the car park was this test mule ...

Well its a GM model as shown by the glass/vin plate markings, we think it was the new Astra.

Had lunch which for most was a huge salad :D

Dropped the van back.

got on the plane

Everyone started asking who he was :D

Got on the plane and Darren hassled some poor American student studying in Cambridge

i may be slow here, but can you just jump the fence and walk round the circuit then?

or are there parts of the barriers you can get in and out?

Floyd's shots from metzgefeld and inside of werseifen(sp?) are great... capture the action much better, like jochen's pics

I found the return gate incident amusing in that I saw Weeman (but didn't recoginse him) because he's so small and then we saw Ross, because he's so, well Ross! We said "it's him, it's really him". Everyone turned to see who we were talking about. I bet Weeman at this point was thinking, surely I'm the only famous person in this 'pauper' Ryanair queue but they're not pointing at me?

If anybody remembers, I was the only 911 with a New Zealand flag in the window... its the flag that looks like an Aussie flag, but has red stars instead of white ones. I carry it in memory of my sister, who is a Kiwi.
