Flew out last Thursday to Koln, where Weeman picked me up, and we chilled out until Friday. We had to wait up for JonR to drive over from the UK, and when he eventually arrived at 3am, and he brought a friend in tow .

Friday: Did the hour or so drive to Nürburg... As soon as we hit Adenau, the roads were deadlocked; pretty much all of the surrounding area of Nürburg! Being Good Friday, it was also "Car Friday." Temps were around 25c; just about every car enthusiast from Holland and Germany descended here! Funnily enough, the track itself wasn't as busy as the spectators surrounding the track would have you believe. Still, in the 4-5 years I've been going, I've never seen the entire area absolutely covered in cars and people.

The evening saw roughly 40 Northloopers storm into the Comfy Corner in Adenau for some rather great food. All prepared by the ever brilliant Jorg! B) Of course, his guitar made an appearance and he did some fantastic covers of some great British songs! :thumb:

Sat: Another day of great weather. Only being a passenger again this time, I had a good few pax laps. We expected it to be seriosuly busy, but no! It was pretty quiet. The car park was full-ish, but the track itself wasn't overly busy. Weeman embarked on his first lap of the year, with me as co-pilot. First lap?? He was going ten tenths throughout!!!!! Certainly was a fun lap, with some interesting tail action, and where I s**t myself, coming out of the Mini Karussell, as Weeman made it more tail happy! Finished that lap, and we went straight on for a second lap... Unfortunately, the 318iX decided to throw out a big plume of smoke at Hohe Acht! Thinking it was oil making an escape, Weeman pulled over straightaway, and luckily a marshall car was doing a round. Yellow flags came out, as they inspected the track for oil, but fortunately it was clean. Gave the car a restart, but more smoke! He thought it best to have the car trailered off. Not a penny spent though, as ADAC themselves were at hand to escort the car and ourselves away. Rather amusingly, Jochen was stood a few metres down and caught us being driven away!

Later, I started doing my usual thing and went over to the Mini Karussell to get snapping. Towards the end of the day, there were two very unfotunate incidents, causing a long track closure. A Pug 306 bust it's engine... and caught fire! During exactly the same lap, a Swiss Z4M had a very bad crash... Right in front of where I was photographing! (Please do not ask to see photos.) That Z4 was apprently the first car to pass the Pug 306, and should have stopped to help. I think a Northlooper was behind him to begin with, and may have witnessed the Z4 driver being a bit arrogant? Some say he had his "just desserts," but either way, I don't think any/many would wish such an incident to anyone. :( Both driver and passenger were absolutely fine. Just badly shaken up!!

That evening was more of a quiet affair. Weeman, Jon, Simon and I headed to Adenau to check out the local chinese and bars. We tried to get a table in the Chinese next to the Nissan dealer, but it was quite busy. The Asia Bistro was our next choice, on the recommendation of AlClark, I believe. The food was cheap, and the portions were HUGE! It tasted absolutely great, as well! I managed to wipe my plate clean, and then dust off Simon's plate! I should be known as the Human Dustbin! I was in uni! We also checked out the Blau Ecke, said hello to Michaela, and then visited the Brau Haus. It was a pretty decent pub, with a pretty cool atmosphere.

Sun: More fantastic weather. We decided to head over to another village to have some lunch and fun on the Rodelbahn. What a laugh! I recommend it to everyone! Returned to the 'Ring, with more pax laps, of course! I got to have a few laps with Ian (DriveForward) in his immense Seat Arosa 1.4 DRT! That guy is one hell of a driver! :thumb: He managed to break even with his Jahreskarte before the end of the trip! I also finally had a pax lap in a 996 GT3 RS, with Andrew Thompson at the helm. :D :D That machine is something else! No tyre squeel, 100% balanced and the braking and acceleration is something else! The digital dash displayed nearly 175mph, heading upto Schwedenkreuz! :D

The final evening of our weekend took us to... the bar of our very own hotel! :D Martin, and co, of the Burgstube prepared a brilliant curry, and also a plate of chilli powder to spice up our dishes to our preference. I thought I'd start off light, then after some convincing, I was brave and threw in another three spoons!  Oops... I couldn't carry on! Weeman said to me, "give it 'ere! I'll finish it! [Sweat breaks instantly!] MILK!!"

Big thanks go out to JonR, Ian, Andrew, Weeman (even though the second lap was three quarters complete lol) and of course, Nige for the pax laps! Also thanks to Jorg, Martin, Andy and Heidi for the hospitality! It was absolutely great to meet everyone, faces seen before and new! :thumb:

Anyway, enjoy! (All available here.) (http://54photography.com)

The Z4M wasn't the car following the Pug 306. That accolade went to a silver Porsche, which somehow managed to keep it on the black stuff. He didn't stop though. Several people carried on, rather than stopping. Nige was the first to offer assistance. We were stood at the marshals' post on the outside, near the apex. From there, the cars coming down the straight are not visible and the only way to get up the track is to jump the barriers and run up the track (dangerous) or to run down the bank, around the stream and back up again (a detour of a few minutes). Fortunately, Nige ran around the inside of the bend and did the flagging before anyone was hurt.

Cheers,
Andy
