View Full Version : Easter at the Ring in some French Clutter

After the first shake down trip a few weeks ago in the Pug it was time to return to the Ring. Unfortunately the plan to take the bike too didn’t come together as the insurance papers still had to appear, so the plan was for a shortened trip of 2 ˝ days.

The Pug was loaded up with the requisite camping gear and appropriately secured ready for lapping:

http://inlinethumb22.webshots.com/42645/2759768560084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2759768560084392296aqmLRB)

I had the essentials, tent, sleeping bag, air bed, bottle of water, towel, tooth brush and bog roll, the minimalist extreme to camp Pinder….(although I did enjoy borrowing one of their chairs to sit on one evening).

http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/18088/2055925570084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2055925570084392296YzknVL)

The Pug had enjoyed a two bucket wash and was relatively clean, with all fluid levels checked:

So after a few hours in bed I left Haarlem at 4am Good Friday morning. After a non eventful trip down I found myself in one of my favourite car parks bathed in warm spring sunlight:

http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/42013/2803385380084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2803385380084392296OuePZZ)

And had a cheesey shot taken:

It was then time to head out for some lapping:

This time going into the Karussel.

The tyres were soon looking warmed up,

And there were a number of nice machines round the car park:

French Clutter:

German Clutter:

And the odd bit of Italian exotica:

http://inlinethumb04.webshots.com/32643/2276149150084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2276149150084392296AECDjU)

It was then on with more lapping, doing a few laps in tandem with Ben in his TVR. Soon there was the odd track closure, after the second we headed down to Breidscheid to rejoin the track and try and avoid the crowds:

http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/42087/2376963410084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2376963410084392296ewSyEn)

The little Pug got fenced in:

http://inlinethumb43.webshots.com/41898/2812048760084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2812048760084392296YYLXtq)

And for some reason this wing mirror really caught my eye:

http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/44579/2472373390084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2472373390084392296tzGvnI)

So after a bit more lapping:

http://inlinethumb36.webshots.com/44515/2750680510084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2750680510084392296HtQcEa)

It was time to head to the campsite, after asking Ian where it was…. Here in the vicinity of Camp Pinder I was welcomed by Helen who helped me get my poles sorted and my tent up:

http://inlinethumb30.webshots.com/44253/2295343760084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2295343760084392296ZXDWVY)

I was made to feel pretty welcome by the Pinders, Simon, Andrew and Helen, all of who were complete strangers to me, top work guys and girls :thumb: We then headed to the Comfy Corner, meet other Northloopers and enjoy the hilarity that is Weeman.

Saturday was a lot quieter than Friday, again I was there for track opening and got some laps in, including the odd bit of air time if you look closely:

http://inlinethumb09.webshots.com/43272/2679397640084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2679397640084392296qfZiXW)

And possibly lifting a rear wheel (or is it my imagination? ) :

http://inlinethumb51.webshots.com/44978/2319606750084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2319606750084392296dSJneq)

The Pug tried its hand at gardening, but wasn’t too keen:

http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/44608/2968447430084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2968447430084392296omJYPa)

Ben then took me out for a Pax lap in his TVR, unfortunately we seemed to miss the tunnel, but the TVR held together and seemed to be running in fine form all weekend:

http://inlinethumb16.webshots.com/42447/2923632030084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2923632030084392296LdrYbu)

I also managed to get a Pax lap with Ian in the mighty Arosa, great fun, and more Pax laps from Nige and Bruce in their golfs, again accomplished machines.

......to be continued.....please refrain from posting for a few minutes.....

Again there were some interesting machines in the car park:

http://inlinethumb28.webshots.com/44507/2178042820084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2178042820084392296RaKiLx)

After a final (slow) lap in the rain with Matti paxing it was time to call it for a day on track. It was then back to the campsite via Adenau for a take away pizza and supply of cold beers. The planned camp fire started to come together, apparently Nige and Simon had been getting wood together quite a lot…..

http://inlinethumb01.webshots.com/40192/2476342700084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2476342700084392296gOEiGK)

So Sunday was my last morning out on track, and I’d got the thumbs up for the camera sorted:

http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/42306/2619067290084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2619067290084392296xuTmsp)

http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/44546/2341829130084392296S600x600Q85.jpg (http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2341829130084392296oaVlfr)

It was then a case of heading back to the campsite just after lunch and shoving the tent in the back of the car before hot footing it back to Haarlem for a little entertaining.

So all in all a great weekend, 33 laps in 2 ˝ days, met loads of great people and the Pug performed brilliantly, even if the rear end was a little lively at times…..

It was good to meet you mate, and thanks for avoiding the urge to go gardening during the pax laps I had with you!

Suprised how lively the back end on the 306 was!

Yep, good to meet you Dave, sorry to hear about the car, actually I drove passed you parked up with a Marshall, so presumed you had it all under control.

And yes Helen the date went well :P

Ian, hoping the r888s I've sat in the garage may make it stick a little better, but it may also make it a little snappier, so I'm still debating fitting them. Although I think I'll give them a go for a lap or two....

There was no view from the PAX seat into the mirrors, plus we were busy trying to find the tunnel.
