If they sold them at just over cost then they would be sorted.. had factory auctions.. ;) instead of the 50% mark up by the time they get to the forecourt

I have a plan!

You could sell them in exchange for quality used cars.

So, take your up to 3 year old car with 60k or less on the clock to your local dealer. He then values your car, for arguments sake call it 5k, a new example is 15k. You then pay 5k [the value of your car] plus your car and get a new example. A saving of 5k.

Range Rover owners will love it! 80k Range Rover, worth 20k in trade, you add same again and hey ho a saving of 40k

This will shift stock in a frenzy create cash and used stock will remain. Sadly there will be a financial loss, but that ship has already sailed.

Factory sale means no more dealers!

IIRC car makers make more money servicing and repairing cars than selling them new. The new car is a loss leader to get you into their dealer network and replacement parts market. Kia locks punters in to 7 years of dealer servicing with their warranty.

Jesus just look at Upper Heyford, there's thousands of them there. Look at all that track day space they are taking up. Stick them on the grass and run track days!

Upper Heyford clicky (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Upper+Heyford&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=13.626984,43.154297&ie=UTF8&ll=51.938074,-1.253772&spn=0.013864,0.058451&t=h&z=15)

Also I remember when me & Jim were at Bedford doing the article on my car looking over the bank at the sea of cars.

I'm going to the Ford dealer to order a light metallic green Ka. It'll give them something to do.

It's like a Where's Wally book
