I've heard a few people moaning about them. What is the problem exactly?

Do they have stiffer sidewalls? Do they scrub the shoulders of the fronts more or less than normal?

Depends what you want them for.

As said they are harder, have less grip than an equal non run flat tyre.

But, as designed, they are better if you get a flat. As long as you have the correct pressure monitor system fitted or you are FUBAR'd

I'm running a 2005 BMW 523i aat the moment with run flat tyres. The cars iDrive computer keeps sounding a warning buzzer and telling me I have a puncture but after repeatedly checking pressures, I obviously don't! I've had to reset the pressure monitoring system before the buzzer drove me into mental psychosis, was even on the verge of going on a rampage!
