View Full Version : Nige`s Northloop Christmas meet report 2008

Not too many pics, I know some people get irritated with me taking them all the time, so I didn`t take as many as usual, just wanted to enjoy it.

Arrived lunchtime and met Ian & Jude and Steph & Vicky for lunch. Food was average at best, but company was great :D

Just as we were leaving, Chris, Matti & MohammedKhan turned up for something to eat (Chris had recommended the restaurant), so we stayed a little longer and had a chat.

Off to Jurys Inn to check in.

Met Duncan and Rachel for a drink and a chat, Duncan kindly drove Ian & me to the Karting. God, his car is so fekking FAST !

Dave said this made him look cool. I tend to disagree

Floyd looked dapper in his racesuit

Chris & Jim discussing tactics (all in vain as there appeared to be NO tactics once on track)

Floyd`s `watch shot`. Pathetic attempt.

Juanjo was telling Duncan why Alonso was the best and how he`d whoop Duncan on track...

The atmosphere was great, everyone was buzzing

Had the briefing, the importance of the YELLOW lights was stressed by the race director...

Went on track, had a 10 minutes qualifying session that seemed like 5 minutes.

Rolling race start, slippy as heck. Following Jim and Simon for lap 1, decided to bide my time and not make any lunges. Lap 2 and someone ahead spun at the hairpin, Simon span to avoid it, I slammed on the brakes, and ended up on the grass. Everyone drove off and I was beached  Watched helplessley as the cars went past whilst the marshall pushed me off. Lost 30 seconds on that lap and was cross.

Rest of race was very entertaining, had some enjoyable battles. Stopped after 25 minutes for bollocking for ignoring Yellows and passing under yellows by Carl "I thought they were green" Newton  (Delorado on here)

Best battle was with Chris Slator a few laps from the end, some feinting and very fair driving :thumb:

Back in and everyone was talking at once about how great it was.

"Who`s DAVE in Number 13 please?" said the Marshall.
"that`ll be me" (Dave G)
"A word..outside..." :nono:

Podium of 3 quick drivers. No1 was was a different level, definately not a novice like the rest of us :o

Nearly ALL these people are Northloop regulars. Fantastic :veryhappy:

Then, the timesheets were handed out and the postmortem began in earnest....

"AH !, if you look here, you can see I would have finished in blah blah blah"

"BUT, I set the 3rd quickest laptime !.." (Juanjo - finished 13th)

Crossle in his racesuit ;)

Then it was back to the Hotel for a fast shower and out for the meal.

part 2 to follow later. Busy at the moment.

Nige I explained already... engine stalled twice, I had to change kart... so I normally should have finnished better, as best lap times says clearly...

Karting results for anyone who missed it.

Back to the Hotel and the ladies had spent the last 2 hours drinking and getting ready  They were in a happy mood :veryhappy:
L>R Helen,Jude,Rachel,Vicky

Next stop after a short taxi ride was Red Hot.

Jim bought Jude a PINT

Ian & Jude with a Scotsman in the background

Lou and me !

Jim "I`ve got a blister from Karting" Cameron

Jim & Simon

Sunni & Darren

Me and Alex

Someone else took a watch shot. Blurred :loser:

We were sat on 2 long tables

Steph & Alex

Food was excellent, a serve yourself, all you can eat buffet with oriental food :thumb:

There was even a selection of icecream and other desserts

At around 11:30 after a few thoroughly enjoyable hours, we left for the bar. On the way we saw a broken `jaffa`....

Arrived at the club and they would not let Alex in at first, he had to argue he was NOT wearing trainers

inside and I realised that I`m getting OLD :karl: It was just too damn LOUD :shout: . I like to go out for a drink and have a talk to people, but all you could do was shout or dance. The bass was so loud the glasses were moving when placed on a shelf and you could feel your chest vibrating

Some people were happy in each others company..

seeking refuge from the noise, Rachel went upstairs.

There were some empty chairs, but the ladies missed the dancing so didn`t stay long

Steph tried to get closer to Vicky..

Alex was REALLY enjoying dancing...

We left at around 02:30, Taxi back to the Hotel and as the bar was closed, we called it a night.

Some of the others went on to a club, I think Gary regretted it the morning after

Called to see Simon before heading home, Jim was still there and were had a cuppa. took 2:40 to get home, pretty trouble free run.

Overall ? Fantastic weekend, we both agreed it went really well and it was great to see so many Northloopers turning up. Other forums I`m on tend to be just that, forums, but we actually MEET in the real world and have a damn good time when we do :thumb:

Roll on 2009, if it carries on at this rate, we`ll need a bigger venue :veryhappy:

Great pictures & report, Nige. Kayla & I agreed that it was a bloody good night :thumb:

I took Dave the dog out for a walk before the other 2 surfaced to try & clear my head. Jim surfaced when I got back and we agreed that we both felt rather bad until we saw Gary  :o.

Bacon & egg butties cooked by Kayla and the army chef sorted us out :thumb: . Well, apart from Gary who took one look at the one put infront of him & pushed it away :D

Quote of the night, from "Chloe":

"You've no idea how hard it is to be sexy when someone won't stop giggling."

Guesses as to the identity of the 'guilty giggler' on the back of a well-used 20 note....
