As usual posted in the wrong section, but I will move it in due course.

Excuse the dirt on my pics again, sensor needs cleaning again obviously

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong

Where do I start with this one?

Thursday evening Neil and I went to collect the jaffa cake with Neil’s trailer. Hmmmmm the car wouldn’t fit. So I rang Gareth with the hump saying I wasn’t going. Luckily he talked me round saying he would come and collect me in the taxi.

Friday morning a call from Gareth, Sean (also coming) had a meeting with his bank at 11am in Brighton, therefore it was difficult for them to come and collect Neil and I. We said we would drive to them. So the first 70 miles Neil and I did got us 10 miles further away from Angelsey rather than closer.

Into the ML, we all settle in and leave Gareth’s yard. The end of the lane I say to Sean ‘’how come you didn’t fancy taking one of your track cars?’’ Gareth stopped the ML dead and looked at Sean. So that was that we were back in the yard blowing the cobwebs off of Sean and Jason’s shared golf. I was elected driver to get it the 300 miles to Angelsey.

So 8 ½ hours after leaving Andover we pulled into the hotel car park. Neil and I got out and went in to sort the rooms. 5 mins later we had the keys and went outside to see where the other were. Gareth explains how Sean took one look when they arrived and said ‘’I’m not staying in that flea pit’’ So the keys were duley returned we were back in the cars and on the look out for something more suitable.

30 mins later we were booked into the Anchorage and in the bar with a pint, I repeat PINT of Leffe. We then embarked on a steak meal and more bottles of red wine than were really necessary, but very nice it was too.

6.45am Neil and I were downstairs having breakfast and away to the track for the 7.30 sign in and 8.00 briefing. Just one small problem, the briefing was 9.30am and I should have read the literary.

Briefing done it was time for the duck and drake laps. Gareth drove with Sean in the passenger seat and came in saying the circuit was great and the scenery lovely too.

My first session the track was still slightly damp and with Sean sat beside me we had some reasonable but gentle laps. Then I sat beside Sean and hung on to the harness while he threw me round. The last of the late brakers did very well.

Another session before lunch, this time with Gareth in the passenger seat we had some steady smooth laps with the track dry and my confidence growing. I kept reminding myself it wasn’t my car and to stay well within mine and the cars limits. Not easy when you’re used to pushing on.

Time to take a few snaps from a good vantage point and watch Sean who was out the instructor Kevin having a lesson. We were keen to hear what Kevin had to say about Sean’s aggressive style. Kevin loved it saying Sean was one of the latest brakers he had ever sat in a car with.

Lunchtime came and Neil and I drove the 15 miles to get fuel. Note to self, next time take fuel cans along.

With a 300 mile return journey to come we decided we would leave at 3pm so we only had an hour of driving left.

Sean dragged me back into the passenger seat and we were lined up ready to go out 5 minutes before the track opened after lunch. Sat in front were a couple of lads who had been entertaining all morning. One in an E36 M3 and the other in a 190 cosworth. The lights went green and out we went. The other 2 cars made 100 yards on Sean in the first mile and I thought good stuff now we can concentrate on our own laps rather than trying to catch these 2. But Sean was having none of it, he started braking later and later and later. After the second lap we were on the tail of the cossie who had more power and pulled away on the straights. Seans answer was to brake later than I believed possible and dive up the inside of the cossie on the entry to a bend. This was accompanied by me shouting ‘noooooooooooooooo’. The move completed we started the chase after the M3. We were doing well until he span on the exit of a corner and we were able to muscle past as he jumped back on the power.
The rest of the session had me laughing like a drain, Sean had a blatant disregard for the rules (something he got warned about after) but on that session there was no stopping him. A few calm down pills required me thinks.

I had my last and best session in the car taking a MK2 golf owning passenger for a few laps.

Jap clutter assumes the position

Just before leaving Mr Gill took me out for a few laps in the CSL. Having been in the car previously I knew what to expect and wasn’t disappointed. We had a good giggle with me laughing at Steve missing the same apex time and time again. Great laps fella.

That was the end for us, we had 300 miles to do to get home and needed to get started.

The trip through Snowdonia was really nice, with it still being light out we were treated to the snow topped mountains in all their glory.

As we reached the M6 - still 150 miles from Billingshurst the heavens opened and down came the rain. To start with it was a steady shower but then it turned torrential. It wasn’t so much standing water, more of a full lake the full way across the motorway. On part worn R888’s this was not a nice sensation and 45/50mph felt more than fast enough. When we neared Oxford I decided to cut and run back to Andover and return the car to Jason on Sunday morning. Back home safely around 9pm it was the end of a long but very enjoyable day.

Once again what a great weekend. It was great to see so many Northloop cars and members new and old. To those of you I didn’t get the chance to chat to I’m sorry, I’m sure I will see you again soon.

A couple of thank yous.

1. Neil for sitting beside me in the golf for 600 odd miles

2. Gareth for talking me into going and as always being great company.

3. Sean for making me laugh from the minute we met up till the minute I got home. Also for his generosity.

4. Jason for lending us his half of the golf, even though he didn’t know till it was too late. If you ever need to use the beemer, it’s yours.

Good report Gary. Was good to say hello again, even if briefly before the end of the day. Thanks for all the insults. Much appreciated.

Would love a copy of the pic. Any of it with the sea in the background? Good to see it in the number 1 slot in this post, where it deserves to be. Jap Clutter indeed!

Andrew / Trevor - send me a pm with your e-mail address and I will sort you out any pics I have. I didn't take many, but those I have I will gladly send.

It made me laugh when your jack broke Trevor. I commented that I could see the problem, you said 'what', I said ''the jack is only rated to 2 tonnes'', you said ''well my car only weighs just under two.....'' then you tailed off, looked at me laughing and told me to fxxx off

Nursing my sore head 'till lunchtime (actually, I didn't get out of bed till eleven), dessert wine is often my downfall.

Team effort this afternoon. Becks is out to the opera tonight...

It's not the best place to try and catch up with people. I always find I'm trying to concentrate on getting everything ready for the trackday and when I do chat my mind is elsewhere.
