Day 1..
Leave work in london for me and head back to house in kent for alex to collect me ready to pack and head off to stay down in dover for the night before early morning ferry.

the *cough* vtr and the FAG outside mine ready for the off, and the boot all packed up with all the stuff.
a quick wiring fix

Day 2..
Wake up at 6.15 using 3 phone alarms dotted around the room, no way else was i getting my arse out of bed before midday. Early morning check with the car and a shot of the view we had greeted to us from where we stayed right by dover.

Quick blast down to dover and we are at the ferry terminal ready to get on the big ass boat. Whilst sitting in the que a Z4 owner signalled to wind down the window, his words were 'the ring??' was it that obvious? a roll caged up noisy as (Oops I said the F word) saxo at the port lol?

some porn in the que, 2 RS4s and a meg R26 before getting on the ferry to dunkirk.

As it was morning and the only bit of breakfast we had so far had was a can of redbull i bought in the shop at dover it was food time, well food and a chance to waste 5mins with a superbly edited and written mag (if you cant spot sarcasm you need to be shot)

back to the car ready for the off.

Off the ferry and its time to really kick the trip into gear, although we found a place especially for yates

we made steady progress through france and belgium with only a quick stop for petrol and a call of nature.
where i was a tad bored

great name eh?

anyway we move on steadily in what could be described as damp conditions, which isnt that much fun with R888s and a fully stripped car and no jheater, until we come across what we thought was a big crash in germany.

nearly 2 hours sat in a jam and we get to the front, bloody police check points, guess what they liked the saxo so much they decided that it would be nice and ask lots of questions about it. We survived and it was time to head back on, not after a joke with the police about the air bag. 'Whereee issst urr airrbaggg...?' , er its at home officer....:wall:

Back on in the rain and time to make up for lost time
great reports back that the engine was still pulling hard and had plenty more left in the tank.

apparently we were still to slow as this didnt hang about....
he did like my camera though and want to pose for me

Anyway now into the fun part, the road up to adenau...
tunnels seem to be quite fun when you have a set of Pugsport bodies and over 180bhp to play with :y:

The trip up the mountain...... past several pubs/and guesthouses...

and past where we are about to go in a min for some big ass pizza and a few beers for me!!

through some fun twisties/hairpins and we arrive at our destination,
the hotel tiergarten/pitsonklaus.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y135/itsafastworld85/Ring%20sept%2008/IMG_8813.jpgCarpark for the hotel at last check has 9 911s, inc 2 gt3s, a gt2rs etc....

So far ive had the police helmet on for most of the trip, managed to have a whole petrol station laughing and comments of being a tad crazy around the hotel....

Evening update of day 2....
Just back from pinnochios having a big ass pizza, garlic bread and some good old german beer...
as you can see the fog up in the mountains today is erm.,,

Followed by a quick trip to the supermarket for supplys.
Frankfurter FTW!
foggy asss pics

Then a quick blast up the mountain back to the hotel, on route back from supermarket as it was fairly dry I had a wee play so we are hopefully anticipating respectable weather for a few laps 2mo fingers crossed.

Good reading, you look to be having a top time, take care out there

14-09-2008, 11:31 AM
You kept quite about this trip Alex!!!

I thought you sold the bodied engine?

Enjoying this read so far :thumb:

Did 4 laps today, lots of crashing, long queues to get on track. Usual weekend material really. Got bored of queuing so went on a walk from brunnchen up to the karusell, taking plenty of high quality pics along the way, if you were there and want some photos then give us a shout.

Met a few groups of english guys who all seem like a good laugh, and a change from the usual people with bad attitude that i've come to find on summer trips. Hi to all we spoke to.

Car has taken a lot of getting used to, the current setup is very different to anything we've driven previously but a good laugh.

Going for a meal at the PK shortly, looks awesome!

Will update the report in the near future.

Over and out...

I think (although I may be massively wrong) that Ryan bought Alex's bodied engine.

Good report so far :thumb:

Day 3.....
The view as we awoke

Woke up at 7.30am german time with some wonderful weather ready for some early morning laps when it was nice and quiet, although sadly there was an accident in the endurance race on saturday where a car dropped its whole tank of diesel down through wehrseifen to adenau forste, so the track was shut till 12pm approx for a major clean up operation.

so we thought would waste a few hours wandering around the car park at some of the porn on show, and spotted some goons in race suits.
this managed half a lap before having a huge one

Then it was time to head down to adenau for some bratwurst as we were both a tad peckish at this point, myself needing a bit more german sausage than alex to fill me up LOL!

walking back to the car we spotted..

Anyway once the track reopened at 12, it was manic, everyone trying to get on something we couldnt be arsed with so it was time to go playing about with the SLR as I had not done any motorsports photography for over 6months and wanted to get the kit out as id dragged it all the way here. We also got a pic of a few mad lads from hastings who if are shown with this pic somewhere get some free beer down their local!!!

Started off just wandering about but as it was my first trip i wanted to walk to the Karusel to play there, sadly the sun was right in the wrong position at this time of day to produce my best work but i really wanted some shots as its such an iconic part of the track and so tried playing about to see what I could get.
*trying to show alex how to use my canon*

4pm we decided that it was time to start lapping, the car had been running fine so far this trip unlike alex's previous attempt with the vtr and so it needed some abuse, seemed to work fine and the sound from bodies seemed to get a few people talking, back to the hotel to cool off then back again for alex's second lap and my first ever lap itself, obviously as it was not my car and it was on a circuit as notorious as the ring i would have been stupid to blast it but still seemed to run respectibly round there not holding anyone up and having fun with the engine.

I then let alex go out for a solo lap which sounded quite fast, and was very competitive with some supposedly better machinery.

Back to the hotel and we needed food, although as im an athlete i really needed to go training, so off for a run from where we were staying for 30mins in probably the most picturesque surroundings ive ever had the pleasure to train in.

once back down to pistenclause for some food.....

bed time soon (alex allready asleep the fairy) and hopefully a few more laps 2mo before the late night ferry.

Hope you both had a good time and make it back to the UK with out tow trucks!

Day 4.....
Wake up around 9ish as breakfast was ending at 10 and we had to cheeeeeck oooot by 11.
pic on our wall to remind us whos hotel it is lol

Down at breakfast got chatting to the guys in (their mates) megane R26 who was out testing a GTR with Nissan for the morning.

Track was to open at 1pm so we had some time to waste, so off to the supermarket to get some cheap Jagermeister for my house at uni and a few cool glasses.

then up to adenau forste to have a wee nose at the odd GTR come flying past, (coucil were doing drive by noise testing at the time lol)
some porn

It was soon near 1pm so we headed up to the main carpark and met some guys who were in a rather naughty evo, and E46 M3 and a hyundai coupe, as i had a few shots of them the day before was quite good to talk. The evo had a suspected fuel pump problem but it didnt stop them caining it round later in the day lol!!

Soon i had the tickets for myself and alex and off we went, alex had done a few laps with the car now and so was more happy that the car was not going to fall appart and felt more comfortable knowing its limit so was able to push alot harder than previous laps, and the car really ran well chasing down some very high spec cars and being held up badly by some idiot in a continental GT who seemed to want to not allow anything by him.

Once the lap was over alex wasnt to bothered about being a passenger and so let me have a solo lap, considering its not my car and have never been to the ring before I was very happy with my lap. It began to rain midway through the lap and so was slightly caucious as didnt want to end up like a type R, E46 M3 and the TVR I had seen earlier in the trip *firmly wedged into the barriers* on the lap the only things to come past me were flying, a GT3 RS and F430 so not bad for a saxo i dont know in a place i dont know really. Considering my road car is a 172 I was quite pleased to see how much quicker the car was than a trophy out there that seemed to be giving it full of stick. I made it back safely so was quite relieved more than anything and we headed off into adenau for yet more german sausage....

Once finished it was up to Adenau forste again for me to play with the canon again. Much happyer today not shooting directly into the sun like the day before and tried to get plenty of the cars of the guys we had met previously that day, plus a few flying germans..... and ford owners who liked to spin lol!

soon it was 4.15(ish) and we really needed to leave to make it to dunkirk for the ferry at 10 (9pm check in) we didnt want to chance it after the problems we had on the way down with the roadblock for the rallye de europa or whatever it was we got stopped for.

16-09-2008, 12:22 PM
the trip back...

At midway we really needed some music as the car was shall we say a tad loud at times lol, so due to having no stereo i had to improvise lol!

A quick stop for food lol! and a toilet trip i saw LOL!

some random cows on a bridge...

arrived pretty much bang on 9pm ready for checking in.

and on the ferry

then quick trip up the m20 (which was full of the usual idiots in lorrys and brits who cant use lanes properly) and then home...

What happened to the black Cerb??! Its been layed up for a few years in APM's workshop, the owner has numerous other cars - lambos and the like, I wasnt aware it had made a trip? I thought he had forgotten about it... :o

it went into the barrier after half a lap.

id say it was more of a slayed by the ring than a ringslayer.

Bit of a shame as wanted to hear it at full chat.

I saw that Cerb in the car park - it had the look of something that was going to be magnetically attracted to the barriers, for some reason.

I mean, who puts their name in big letters over the driver's door? Were you worried you might not be able to find it in the car park among the other similar cars, or did you want everyone to know your name when you were on the recovery truck?

That Estonian red Evo wasn't exactly quick on the track, either. Not nearly as funny as the Skyline with the numberplate R13 GTR - more when I finish writing up my (picture-lite I'm afraid) report of our trip out last weekend.....
